Gift cards are better...but I'd still hold off on using them until later. And if you do use them, make sure you at least tip very well.

I personally wouldn't do it because I never use coupons. But...

If I were going to use a coupon on a first date I would excuse myself from the table under the pretense of going to the bathroom, catch the server while they're at the POS, give them the coupon, and make sure to let them know that they will be taken care of. That way when the bill comes its already been discounted and all you have to do is pay, tip, and leave.

Basically, I would only do it if I could be discreet about it.

Also, going out to eat on a first date? No. Terrible idea.

What's the consensus on taking a girl out to dinner then, as you pay, she breaks out a coupon for you to use?

Everyone's cool with that situation, right?

what kinda respectable restaurant has coupons? Where are you taking your date, Arbys? If so, you've got bigger problems on your hands

Sure. Also be sure to point out any of the coupon limitations before she orders. No, you can't have that. It says here that you have to get a dinner platter for the coupon to work.

depends on your definition of mediocre i guess. i don't take first or second dates to 5 star restaurants

plenty of good local restaurants that use groupon

Is this a common opinion?

Although one time I went out on a first date to the Melting Pot, and I will say it IS a bad idea to choose a restaurant where it takes like 3 hours to eat.

Yeah. That seems a little much. Althouh my first date with my husband ended up lasting for three and a half hours it didn't have to. If one of us wasn't feeling it we could have skipped out after about an hour or so.

You don't have to be five-star to be good.

It shouldn't. Sure it's cliche...but there's nothing wrong with going out to dinner for a first date. Just make sure it isn't micky d's and have some good conversation and you're good to go.

I think it depends on the situation. I wouldn't take a care to the generic mexican restaurant down the street or East Village with a coupon (at least early on in the dating process). On the other hand if were somewhere like Sullivan Steak house or Melting Pot and a girl thought I was "cheap" for using a living social deal or something than I probably would have an issue with the materialistic bitch.

There is actually a girl here in Charlotte that does NoDA run club with us that we call "Groupon." She was bitching to my friends and I (she is friends with one of my buddies) about some dude because he was "Cheap Date" for using a Groupon at Five Church (fancy restaurant downtown Charlotte).
