^^ escape ecoboost would be my suggestion if I thought that was an option. My guess is next gen outback will have the turbo 2 liter in it but probably not with a manual.

Went with 2014 Premium Carbide Grey 6-speed manual. Talked them down quite a bit and got a great trade in for my car. They're delivering it from Georgia for free and I pick it up tomorrow. I know I made a quick decision but I couldn't wait.
7/5/2013 6:57:10 PM
congrats!
7/5/2013 8:36:52 PM
When I read "Subaru Outback" I instantly imagine a car that smells like feet.
7/8/2013 8:12:22 AM
^^^nice job man. What dealership did you buy from?Oh, and the only reason I mentioned a WRX is because you said your buddy's Crosstrek felt sluggish. Your Outback isn't gonna be any quicker.Congratulations on the purchase though, and good luck with the move!
7/8/2013 8:40:26 AM
^^Exactly the point! Can't wait until I get that sweet sweet feet smell in it. I think there's even a commercial about it. ^South Blvd in Charlotte. Yeah it's plenty for what I want. Slightly bigger engine than the XV with ~25 more HP.
7/8/2013 8:55:13 AM
yeah but that 25 hp is easily offset by the extra 500+ lbs you're lugging around Ah, Charlotte. Good deal.
7/8/2013 12:34:00 PM
Very true. The 3.6 was $$$ and no manual version so it was really my only choice. My cousin has a 2.5i 2011 and she lugs a bunch of people and equipment around Colorado and says it's fine. I won't be towing any trailers with it but it's sufficient for 4 people + stuff.-Google says Outback is ~375lbs heavier. [Edited on July 8, 2013 at 12:42 PM. Reason : s]
7/8/2013 12:40:23 PM
Ah thanks. I didn't realize that either the Crosstrek was so overweight, or that the Outback was so lightweight
7/8/2013 1:57:33 PM
Both slow but the Outback's 0-60 is 8.8 and the Crosstrek's is a pitiful 10.5. Think the larger engine more than makes up for the added 300-400 lbs.
7/8/2013 2:15:22 PM
Because 0-60 times in an outback and crosstrek matter
7/8/2013 2:30:32 PM
Oh I never said they did. Just pointing out the Outback is a little faster with more hp and torque.
7/8/2013 2:33:59 PM
7/8/2013 4:12:15 PM
Obviously I don't know any better. It's not like I'm buying it for the power.
7/8/2013 4:15:29 PM
Woohoo finally picked it up. The one I got didn't have the rubber mats, bumper guard, or door guard trim so I got them to put all that one. It's great so far. The car seems to have plenty of pick up to satisfy me.
7/9/2013 10:16:56 AM
i saw one of those crosstreks in roanoke the other day.it was pretty nice looking. if i was in the market for a station wagon, it would be near the top of the list.
7/9/2013 12:56:07 PM
If it had a 6 or a turbo I'd be all over a crosstek.
7/9/2013 12:57:02 PM
I certainly don't miss having to put premium in my car.
7/9/2013 1:19:50 PM
I have a low octane tune for my subie :-). Lean low timing low boost and loses about 130whp but its economical. I never use it...
7/9/2013 2:00:26 PM
down here in wilmington we've got ethanol free 93 octane available. my wife's TL requires 93 and the fuel mileage gains due to e-free outweigh the extra cost of 93.
7/9/2013 4:16:28 PM
How much is that a gallon
7/9/2013 6:19:54 PM
there are quite a few non-chain gas stations where I live where all their gas is ethanol-free. it seems to run about 5 cents/gallon more around here than shit gas.
7/9/2013 6:37:16 PM
7/9/2013 7:01:50 PM
7/9/2013 7:13:40 PM
That's not all that badAny gas station can Carry it here but it's cost effective to have the e shitThere are a few places I go to for lawn equipment shit though
7/9/2013 7:31:21 PM
lots of e-free options here due to all the boatsmy mom was getting e-free for the store she runs near goldsboro from the selma terminal, but supposedly they quit carrying it there. the next closest terminal with e-free was wilmington, but they would've charged a hefty surcharge due to the longer haul to goldsboro. i don't think she sells any gas now. that's probably another reason it's easier to get it down here. Far as I can tell, there's no E-free gasoline in Raleigh that's convenient for me. There's a station 1/4 mile from my office with e-free, but naturally it's just 91 octane [Edited on July 10, 2013 at 8:34 AM. Reason : k]

I did a bit of research. Called some dealerships in Colorado. Not only would I get a much better deal on an Outback in Charlotte but I would get far more for my trade in. When you factor that plus the 7.5% tax in Denver versus 3% sales tax in Charlotte I saved $2-3k just buying in Charlotte. And yeah Outbacks really hold their value. They're known for it and consistently are ranked highest for it. There's no debate there. Looking at 2-3 year old Outbacks didn't even make sense because for a couple thousand more I could just get a new one with the warranty.
7/14/2013 2:55:48 PM
7/15/2013 2:24:27 PM
Yeah seriously. I was looking at 2-3 year old used ones and was like, well fuck I should just buy new.
7/18/2013 4:42:15 PM
So after having the Outback for over a month and finally getting it out for some trips in Colorado I can say I made the right decision. Already taken it on some jeep roads where an Impreza's clearance just wouldn't have cut it. Not to mention I got 29-30 mpg this past weekend up in the mountains. Not too shabby. Just picked up a Thule Alpine cargo/ski box as well from REI for 20% off. Can barely hear it on the top.[Edited on September 3, 2013 at 1:44 PM. Reason : s]

awesome man, glad you're enjoying it!

I got this last weekend and traded in my 2000 Jeep Cherokee (4x2, no abs, mechanical issues, headliner falling in, paint problems, etc). This is sort of like going from a horse and buggy to a goddamn spaceship. To clarify, that's a 2013 Subaru Crosstrek. Just thought I'd post in here because you all were talking about them. It feels a hell of a lot faster than my old jeep (perhaps because it is an old jeep) and the gas mileage is ridiculous. Got it instead of an impreza hatchback because of the position of the driver's seat and the overall size of the vehicle (only driven cherokees since I was 15, so I wanted something that was similar). It also drives pretty well on some of the shitty roads around the hampton roads area. If you're looking for a practical vehicle with a decent ride height that costs less than (and IMO looks better than) a ford escape or the new jeep cherokee I'd say this is worth a look.[Edited on October 3, 2013 at 12:01 AM. Yeah my buddy got the 2013 Orange Crosstrek. It's a great car. I would have gone with it but I wanted something a little bigger.
10/3/2013 12:47:39 AM
this is actually a good discussion. i have an 03 grand cherokee, but im "that guy" and rarely use its size other than a rare move or camping. im also cheap.i was considering crosstrek/outback as an alternative.
10/3/2013 10:30:33 AM
I really wish they made the CrossTrek with a turbo and the newer Outbacks with one as well.
10/3/2013 2:16:42 PM
the 2014 Jeep Cherokee is both ugly and striking all in one. and this is coming from a Jeep guy who loves Cherokees. but my god i think it's more ugly.
10/10/2013 5:24:13 PM
It's also marketed heavily towards snobby people who want to pay too much for a euro-inspired SUV with an american name on it.Seriously the marketing emails I've been getting Jeep are ridiculous, who the hell is going to buy this over their other options?
10/12/2013 11:27:41 AM
Well got rear ended by a 19 year old in his parents Pathfinder. He was tailgaiting me for like 5 miles. I hate idiot drivers.
3/10/2014 11:07:22 AM
Sorry to hear that man
3/11/2014 2:04:45 PM
did you at least bitch slap the guy?
3/11/2014 2:13:18 PM
I about did but then he said his parents still covered his insurance and I figured the kid was going to get enough of a reality check from them. Me being nice to the kid probably made him feel worse anyway.
3/11/2014 4:12:49 PM
yeah, I guess.

http://www.automobilemag.com/features/news/2015-subaru-outback-spied-233831/I'm going to be pissed if they bring back the turbo and keep the manual on the 2015 Outback. Almost pissed enough to buy the newer model if it's slicker looking, stick, and turbo charged.
4/15/2014 1:07:57 PM
4/15/2014 6:49:57 PM
Appreciate the heads up on that. I don't put too many miles on it (only about 3200 miles or so now given my post from last october) but that's still something to keep an eye on.Also, neodata686 sorry to hear some dumbass hit your nice car. Hopefully his parents will make him ride in traffic on a drunk bike before he gets to drive a big boy car again. :V

Are you a lesbian?
4/16/2014 1:42:51 AM
Now is a good opportunity for you to get the better Jeep Cherokee
