The flailing around is kinda common if you shoot an animal. I haven't seen it much when the animal is stationary, but if it was moving it'll happen more often. Majority of the time the animal is dead, but the nerves keep firing. It really unnerves you seeing it for the first time if you're out hunting. Same for a chicken after removing it's head or gutting and cleaning a fish and it still moves.

I'm not sure why the officer didn't fire again. If it was me I would have been shaking and worried about missing the dog and having the bullet ricochet off the pavement and hit someone else. Maybe when police receive training there's something about stop firing when the suspect is on the ground and his training kicked in. Who knows.

It's horrible what happened. You can't blame the dog for what happened. It was trying to protect his owner. Just plain sad, especially since it could have been avoided.

this

the cops acted reasonably, though it sucks that they felt they needed to shoot it...but i hate to see animals suffer

that said, what were they supposed to do? shoot it again after it's flopping around on the ground? it would have gone over horribly with the public because the public is stupid

Make sure you watch part one of the whole thing

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffwxaTpJTyI

no sad part in the first part, just shows all that lead up to the thing. What he gave in his interview wasn't the exact same as what happened in the video.

Dude acts like a douchebag, fucking with the cops
Cops overreact by arresting the dude
Dude didn't properly secure his dog
Dog tried to defend his owner, gets killed

I don't see any innocent parties here (except the dog).

his interview seems to pretty much confirm what happened

i mean he doesnt mention that he was riding by his music playing loud, stopped to see what was going on, pulled up farther and started filming it with his music still on, but his account in the video seems to pretty much confirm exactly what happens in the OP video

The crux of his argument is that the 3rd cop didn't hear him say no to his dog. It looks like all 3 of the cops were right next to him at that point. Everything else he said is pretty much true though.

It looks like the dog went for for the cop, from that angle. I think that's the crux of the argument.

It would also be interesting to hear what all that conversation was prior to the arrest.

Maybe he should have filibustered the cops while he was still on the sidewalk while the dog was on the leash. Maybe they could have not got around to cuffing him before they got tired of listening and stepped off.

If he hadn't have put his dog in the car before and continued to hold the dog on the leash i wonder if the dog would have been shot. I wish i hadn't seen that. I couldn't imagine witnessing that in person.

this video makes me soo mad. the minute the dog came towards them they should have let his owner go so he could manage him...it's not like they were detaining him for anything major...but instead, the cop got fucking trigger happy...

i have the sweetest 12 year old dog ever but if I feel threatened in the least....she tries to protect me. and if a cop shot her for that.....

The minute the guy decided he was going to yell at the cops for no reason he should've decided not to do that. Why the fuck would they let someone go who was previously aggressive? Fuck him. He's obviously (like 90% of other people) the kind of person who shouldn't have a dog.

Sure, the guy was being an idiot for yelling at the cops, but didn't the cops have more important things to do than approach the guy and detain him? The guy wasn't getting in their way, wasn't keeping them from doing their job. Wouldn't it be more prudent for the cops to do their job and just to ignore the idiot? Why did they feel the need to detain him? Was that necessary? Seems like another case of cops trying to prove to a citizen that they're the boss. Power trippin'.

Maybe the guy shouldn't yell at people who are trying to keep a neighborhood safe because he has some complex and thinks all cops are out to get people. I could see yelling at cops if they're like bullying someone who doesn't know their rights but everything in that video looks like its a fucking swat squadron trying to get someone to come out of a house. If I am in a high pressure situation where people's lives are probably in danger I sure as fuck wouldn't take any shit from somebody on the street who is going to start fucking with me. Take your self-important ass, fuck off, and let the cops do what they want. However important you think you are nobody gives a fuck. Fuck this guy. Glad your dog got shot.

Maybe next time you will mind your business and more importantly maybe next time you'll consider "Hmm I don't have any fucking clue of how to take care of myself so obviously I shouldn't be responsible for something that has the intelligence of a 2 year old"

Like I said, he was being an idiot. Also, like I said, maybe the cops shouldn't of power-tripped and should have been professionals and ignored him unless he actually posed a threat or prevented them from doing their job. I find your total faith in cops amusing. Did you know anyone from high school that became a cop? I also find your total disregard for the innocent dog pretty sickening. Geez you're annoying.

First of all I have zero faith in cops. Fuck cops. However, fuck anyone who wants to get involved in a crime they are not currently involved in. Cops are so retarded that you would have to be infinitely MORE retarded to create more stress for them. Fuck this guy. He deserves what he got. He should never have had a dog. Hopefully he has learned this.

I'm not a huge fan of cops and i am a huge fan of dogs but to be honest if someone else's 100lb rotty comes running at me trying to defend its owner... and i'm armed well i'd probably tackle the dog but if i didn't know how to handle a dog either... i'd shoot it.

What happens sucked cause what appears to be an awesome dog got killed for having a douche bag of an owner. But i see barely any fault of the cops... i would't expect them to let me go if my dogs ran at them and i would expect them to shoot my dogs. I wouldn't be happy about it... but you have to know that's whats going to happen.

i don't see much or any of that. i see a lot more people just criticizing the cops for being unprofessional.

i mean, this is america. if an idiot wants to stand on the side-lines and yell at the cops (but not pose any threat or hamper the cops from doing their job), is that grounds for getting arrested? I don't think cops should have that sort of authority.

the cops could have just been professional and ignored the idiot, instead of stopping what they were doing and walking aways from the crime scene and over to the idiot on the sideline to arrest him for yelling. but yeah, dude was an idiot.

^hey guy, did you miss the 4 or 5 times i said the dude was an idiot?

^^how was the dude posing a threat? he was on the sidelines. with the number of cop cars, it looks like they had much more important things to do. cops are trained to walk away from a crime scene to arrest people who yell at them? again, i think cops should protect and serve, not arrest idiots who who pose no threat and don't get in their way.

anyone blaming the cops for this situation is an idiot

the whole thing is unfortunate...the dog was clearly trying to protect its owner and it was killed because of it

but the person who could have prevented this tragedy in the first place was the dog's owner...he is responsible for the death of his dog, end of story

So the guy was posing no threat and didn't feel like was doing anything wrong but willingly had himself arrest. Makes sense. I do that all the time

Did you even watch the video? He's yelling at two cops, agitating them and asking why theres no black cops.

^^so what i'm getting from you is that cops have the authority to arrest people for being stupid, even if they pose no threat to the cop and aren't preventing them from doing their job. sorry man, but that sounds like an idiotic stance to me.

Have you done any research? This guy ALREADY has pending lawsuits against the cops. He obviously has some kind of complex where he (much like you) think every single cop is trying to kill him because he is black. This guy is on as big of a power trip as any of the cops were.

I'll say it one more time, THE DUDE WAS AN IDIOT. Yes, he was being stupid. Yes, it all could have been avoided if he wasn't being stupid. But the cops could have just ignored him and gone about their police business and let the dude stand on the sidelines and be an idiot.
