Started as a rogue archer...not liking him at all so I'm gonna start a new one with a different guy...either mage or sword and shield. Game is great so far though. Loving it

There is so much shit to do in this game. I have about 17 open quests in the hinterlands and I've only viewed maybe 1/3 of that area.

The war room confuses me...

If you are still in the Hinterlands, you have no idea how true that statement becomes.

I, too, am stuck in the Hinterlands...I'm one of those people that have to do EVERYTHING in an area before I'll move on. This is going to be a long game.

Best advice for this game is to leave the hinterlands long before you clear the quests. The game really picks up later and the hinterlands are boring.

Where are my whore houses? If I can't fuck a male dwarf whenever I'm in the mood, what's the point of Dragon Age?

It's possible that they're hidden away in one of the dozen huge zones...it's possible. I've only seen 4 or 5 zones so far. Though I have taken down 2 dragons.

Classes take a cool turn when you hit the Specialization Trees. I have a badass melee mage, fucker plain wrecks everything.

^yeah, the classes become really cool with those.

I haven't really played this in about a week. It just takes so long to do stuff and i've been so busy that by the time I cut it on and got into a quest, i'd need to cut it off. Goin out of town this weekend too, so its gonna be atleast another week before i jump back into it.

I'm awful at combat. Dumbed it down to casual level.

Just found a zone with 3 dragons in it. I shook my fist at them in rage as I ran the fuck out of there.

Having a blast despite being shitty at combat. Seems like I do best running 3 mages and a tank.

I found most combat to be pretty easy, even on hard, but I think that was mostly due to my party composition. I basically pretended it was an MMO and went with what would be a logical combination of classes/skills in that regard. You need one dude who specialized in aggro generation and taking a beating. You need ranged and melee physical dps, and you need a support/healer class. For DA:I , you really have no other choice but to roll with at least one mage that can cast barrier, since there is no true healer class. Sprinkle in some debuff/stun skills into all your party members and you can roll through most content without doing much but watching. The harder stuff requires tactical view.

Get a lot of melee and slap barriers down. Keeping ranged lined up was obnoxious. Knight Enchanter (melee mage that gets free barrier on damage) is disgustingly good.

Sword and shield Warrior was surprisingly satisfying. Typically its a boring class but in this game I had a lot of fun playing it and it did respectable damage. Knocking things around feels good.

Ranged rogues seemed awful. I didn't check the specialization trees besides Varrics, but they seemed like much worse mages. Slightly more damage at the cost of Barrier, a ton of CC, and good aoe

^^^ Yes, totally worth it. I'm still on my first playthrough and I'm sure I've logged 60+ hours. It can be annyoing if you're a completionist because the zones are so big and there are so many of them.

I spec'd into Knight Enchanter and it pretty much makes all your other teammates irrelevant, especially paired with the Spirit Tree. Although if you want a tip, roll with Solas. He has a high-end spec spell that draws all enemies into a small area for you to wreck through, great for AOE of all classes.

I beat it at 88 something hours ugh.

Yeah I was impressed by Solas' tree as well. Ridiculous CC. I didn't like the Necromancer tree a lot - good abilities but locked me in combat longer.

Some big time savers
- Leave the Hinterlands early-mid. There's the temptation to finish almost everything but you end up overleveled for a while. Tons of quests will backtrack you to earlier zones; if you REALLY want to finish it do it then

- Shards really aren't worth the hours it takes to find them all. It adds a ton of time

- There are herb markets for Elfroot and Blood Lotus. That will save a ton of WoW style picking. If you REALLY need Blood Lotus they are clumped in the oasis camp

- Ignore camp requsitions. They provide +1 Power and you get excess in the triple digits with no way to spend them

- Some of the later areas have mundane quests in them. Not worth the completionist as you buzzsaw through low level enemies

Tons of combos probably trivialize teammates. Shield Warrior and a mage only casting Barrier/basic attack can take on a lot. I could see 4 Shield warriors being fun to run around with

It's fun, kind of like mass effect 3 multiplayer but much harder imo.

Finally conquered this game last night, and t'was awesome. Actually pretty excited to start again, though not right away. I went snarky Quanri Mage for this playthrough, on a very dark world-state I built from previous playthroughs of the older games.

jumped back into this for a few hours the other night. Damnit there is just so much shit to do that my mind gets gridlocked. There are like 8 areas open for me to go to right now and you can literally spend days doing stuff in each area. Meanwhile, I'm Level 16 fighting Level 11 enemies...frustrating.
