Whats sad is that the fact of global warming and the act of contemplating its potential consequences is "political."

Wait, what? You mean Supplanter?

Surely you jest, Smath.

Also, why the fuck do you always wait for some SCHOOL-RELATED tragedy to crawl out of the woodwork and show your true colors? How many threads does it take for you to get a fucking clue.

Have tornados been getting worse or more frequent, or is it just the amount of media coverage? Just a couple years ago North Carolina got hit pretty hard, and I never really thought of NC as a tornado state before. Is this a climate thing or a freak thing?

clearly it's climate. tornadoes didn't happen before global warming.

So let's break this down and see who the troll is.

it's not a matter of fighting about carbon taxes, etc. it's totally worth pointing out that these types of things are going to continue to happen and we should maybe consider that in our weather preparedness going forward, especially when most people refuse to believe it's true.

however when you look at his post history, the subtle attempt at a political statement is obvious.

Contemplating potential consequences of the fact of global warming = political statement. Brilliant.

Indeed, people are hung up on arguing whether or not the warming is cause by humans. While this may have some importance, the primary concern is the warming itself as more heat = more intense weather.

Regardless of whether or not we are the cause of the warming temperatures, we need to ready for the more intense weather.

Liberals wanna ban our guns, ban exhalation and take all of our rights on top of that. If they let us extract resources more efficiently, and didn't set aside all the good land for wildlife, people wouldn't have to live in tornado alley and would still be alive.

If only I could build my house in Yellowstone on a super massive volcano, I'd be much safer.

People will always live in tornado alley, just the same as they will always have beach houses in hurricane prone areas

Why can't I build my house on top of half dome? I'd be way safer. That's a damn solid foundation, you have to admit.

^^^ too small population areas in those areas.

Just wait until the big one hits LA or SF and then you'll see some real catastrophe.

I guess I don't have a specific study to cite right off hand, but heat energy, whether in the air or in a body of water, and the difference in temperatures in air masses are the driving forces in thunderstorms and tropical cyclones

I wonder if it's time to consider concrete houses or buried houses in tornado alley? Obviously, wooden structures are not withstanding these storms and we are all paying for it.

This was a terrible tornado, and I feel bad for all those folks out there. I just wonder if there are ways to minimize life loss through structural improvement.

sure. you have the expected mechanism (and this doesn't even get into whether said mechanism is valid). but no evidence to show that it's actually happening. I can come up with tons of shit that *might* happen, but that doesn't mean they actually *are * happening.

even if there were, I don't know if the vast majority of the people who tend to get hit by tornadoes would be able to afford the improvements. kinda sux :-/

you are correct, I only meant we should be prepared for the possibility that warming temperatures may cause more intense weather. If one chooses to not do so then so be it.

Also note that on page one i stated that this year had been nearly tornado free, well below avg, until these past few days.

You need and underground shelter. above ground will not do it for EF4 or EF5.

Which really isn't surprising. IIRC, the first tornado outbreak is usually pretty bad, especially when it's been delayed as long as this one. Last week was pretty bad too, I think

Yeah right. The people being killed don't even think science is real and think God has opened the sky to take them to heaven so theres no fixing that.

I was just thinking today about how interesting that it would be to analyze the data on climate changes in the past 50 years and identify any trends with global warming. I am sure that it has been done, but I would do it right.
