CD's don't do much good in a tape deck that probably hasn't worked since the 80's.

I always did, and still do keep a CD in the disc player. Largely as an ultra safe fallback of good music from when I couldn't find anything on SiriusXM. Bt my phone now makes it pretty irrelevant, as I always keep a few great albums on there

I'm too poor to own an iphone or ipod of any sort, and too honest to steal one.

You could probably find one at a pawn shop for super cheap.

Or do like EMCE and mug a guy. It's not "stealing" if the guy hands it over willingly

I put a cd player in my dad's car today because we thought the old one died. Turns out a speaker in the rear shorted out the whole system because of a loose connection. Now my dad has a new cd player and 3 working speakers.

I used to keep all my CDs in my jeep but they all eventually crack from constant heating/cooling, so I rip them all to 320 kbps and started keeping the CDs in my casa. Also...

I have a pretty decent audio system and the difference between 128 kbps and 320 kbps is very noticeable. The difference between 128 kbps and lossless is pretty damn obvious...(no snob)

In "my" car, no. The 6-disc changer hasn't worked in a couple years so I listen to FM, tapes, or smartphone through a tape adapter.

In the other car, sometimes. Most often XM but the CD player gets used occasionally. Currently I think it contains my wife's copy of Florence and the Machine - Ceremonials.

Yep. I don't have an mp3 player of any sort
Though the radio usually does well enough that I'll only use CDs on road trips or for certain moods

I have a tape deck in my truck ('94 GMC Sierra). I recently installed a Sirius dock in it that uses one of those old school cassette adapters with the cord coming out of it. It took me back to High School when kids would use those to hook up their portable CD players up in their cars. The Sirius doesn't skip when I hit a bump, though.

LOL, I was one of those. Had a discman with 10 second anti-skip, hot stuff. Part of my graduation present was getting a CD player head unit installed in that car...
Ah, what passed for high-tech in 1998. I had still never heard of .mp3 until I started at NCSU that fall.

no...and i haven't for almost 8 years

my last two head units have had USB ports, so i just have a couple of 2-4GB drives that contain parts of my collection i like the most...i just pop one of those in when i'm not interested in NPR or don't feel like streaming through my phone (which hooks up to the head unit via an auxiliary input)

haha, my first CD player was a magnavox that had 3-second antiskip...and i'm pretty sure the most it buffered was 1-2 seconds, tops

I listen to the headlines and specific bits, but usually when I'm driving I don't want to need to pay attention to get what's going on

Also, people who don't have CDs, do you really all have satellite radio?

I have Sirius in all 3 vehicles, and a docking station on my home theater system. I rarely use the one in the house though, because whenever we have people over we use our iPods.

No CD's and no Satellite

(FM/AM, CD player that stays empty, USB drive, Aux In, and A2DP bluetooth music streaming from my phone)

i like the old school approach, but how can you fit thousands of songs on a 750 MB zip disk?

I'm old school... I have 6 CDs in the changer, sorted by type.
Old school rap, classical, rock, etc.

You should see the looks I get at stop lights when disc 1 is playing.

i don't know anyone who listens to any of those. i have a cd book in my truck. i've pretty much had the same cds in there for a couple years now, and hardly ever listen to them. mostly stick to wknc, NPR, The Fan, and (somewhat ashamedly) 96Rock. But I've been meaning to get some new music in there.

all i was saying is that most guys who aren't up on new music are perfectly content listening to generic rock be it classic or 90s alternative and "shock jock" or sports talk radio.

28-45 might have been too big of an age gap. 35-45 definitely.

the people you know don't represent the masses that are complete dolts. i work with plenty of people that listen to nothing but classic rock radio stations that play the same 40-50 tracks day in and day out or sports talk radio stations that intro/outro with those exact same rock songs. oh it's 2pm? Blue Oyster Cult is probably playing 2 doors down.
