Oh man that never occurred to me before but it makes so much sense.

Archer is literally Frisky Dingo. Same production team, same premise, same style.

I've been watching Bob's Burgers lately. It's pretty watchable and often good. I feel ok watching it with my kids in the room which is always a plus.

Archer is much more coherent than frisky dingo.

Every episode FD killed at least 2 characters and introduced 3 more. Overall I prefer Archer.

^No idea. I feel dumb now

Also, Adventure Time makes explanations like this make sense:

Quote :
"
"why is a massive sentient testicle eating trees?"
"There were party bears living in his stomach because they thought it was a cave and shooting off fireworks and making a lot of noise."
"

can't really speak on Adventure Time, but because of this thread, I watched the first 3 episodes of Bob's Burgers each of the last 3 nights...pretty solid

^yah. I like Teddy the contractor and the assistant health inspector. They are funny.

And it's not fucking preachy.
They must have had to look long and hard to find writers for that kind of oddball material.

Like maybe outside of harvard. *shiver*

^I enjoy it as well.
But...

The characters are what is enjoyable.

Every last one of them is adorable and flawed and easily identified with.

They're fake cartoon sugar people with real problems that are dealt with in realist ways (at least within the context of the apeshit crazy world they inhabit)
Generic sounding stuff.

But there are some not so subtle "Aesop's Fables" parallels that have the viewer conclude the opposite points on "values".
And some of it is very very dark stuff. Denial of self, humanism, the existential void, flat out sacrilege(a popular topic nowadays), the limits of friendship, and most often, fear of death.

It's about as grounded as absurdist art gets, thus it's broad appeal.

I used to fault bigman for disliking it, but now I see how he may object to it's assembly-line treatment of ethereal and subconscious irony.

Absurd humor is a thing that should spring from a single mind to gum up the works of it's audience's perception.

Adventure time found something that worked for some reason and uses the mold to crank out their tv show.

I still enjoy it, but it doesn't have that staccato of a constantly churning mind anymore.

I suspect the creative soul of show had to be prescribed an antidepressant, and the writers on staff are just using modified themes from earlier drafts to fill in the holes. Nothing kills comedy like happiness.

I don't question their quality, ..really.

Just how much I enjoy them.
Like, Schindler's list was a super high quality movie, but i didn't fucking enjoy it.

The difference between the first two seasons and the ones that follow is pretty stark though, do you agree?

i saw Pendelton Ward paint a dick on (very funny) comic Randy Leidtke's (whose done some voice work on Adventure Time) back at the Tomorrow Show in LA last September

if you're ever in LA and looking for something to do at midnight on Saturday, check out the Tomorrow Show (Ron Lynch hosts)

Watched a couple episodes of Bob's Burgers for the first time last night.

This show is quality. It's all about Louise, for me.

it seems ot me that fox is giving bobs burgers the shaft

season premiere was a month ago and no new episodes until next week, thats bullshit. plus a shitty timeslot. be lucky if theres another season. when given a decent shot they were pulling in six million viewers last season, be lucky to top three with fox fucking them over
