Nope. I graduated in the summer. I could have walked at the Fall ceremony then just finished up my final 6 credits over the summer, but I didn't want to jinx it, lol.

Definitely not anti-social, but no, I don't enjoy sitting still for 4+ hours listening to some crappy keynote speaker spout off cliches about the dedication it takes to get a degree/succeed, and watch 10,000+ people I don't know walk across the stage to get a piece of paper. Also, I wouldn't want to subject my family/friends to that shit either, especially since I was going straight from undergrad to grad school anyway.

My grad school ceremony, however, was a lot different. There were only eight of us in my cohort, so the ceremony lasted about an hour, and it was a lot more intimate and personal having our profs discuss our projects and how they got to know us during the program. My whole family flew across the country and it was a much bigger deal.

Truth. My father attended my own graduation, then had to leave pretty immediately to go to a departmental graduation (he's a faculty member at the university), the look of horror on his face when I joked Friday night about also going to the main graduation in the morning was hilarious (as it would've meant being in graduation ceremonies from essentially 8:30am until >6pm).
The Textiles graduation ceremony was nice though... aside from it being crowded and hot, none of the speeches lasted more than 5, maybe 10 minutes, and there were... 3 speeches I think.

The only frustration with the departmental was that the department of three majors (TE, PCC, TT) is significantly smaller than the department that is just one major (FTM), so after reading the names off of the ~20 people in each major for TECS, we then had to sit through the ~120 names, so while I got my part over with quickly, I felt bad for the other students, as the enthusiasm of the applauding waned pretty drastically over time.

um, that's not the way it works in college. They have each major stand up and be recognized. I think the only people who were individually recognized were phds

I went, but only because my parents requested it. Went to the big one, didn't go to departmental, didn't really give a shit. Big fat waste of time.

Proud? Please. I didn't work with any of those people to get my degree. I don't feel any sort of scholastic connection to my school. I don't feel like they provided me with anything of particular value (considering what I paid for it).

I mostly felt screwed over. Why would I give a shit about their honoring my academic success that I paid for? They can go fuck themselves.

And on a related note, they should stop calling me asking for money. Assholes.

^^Pretty much.

There are significant issues with the way universities operate, just mail me my fucking diploma and let me access my transcripts so on the off chance an employer actually bothers to check on any of it. Shit, knowing what I know now I could have skipped college, made some shit up on a resume and had the same outcome since nobody ever actually does any meaningful background checks.

They literally make you pay for them to email your transcript to employers.

Didn't know that, since no one has ever asked for my transcript, nor have I ever heard of anyone applying for a job that didn't require security clearance needing to provide a transcript.

because of my assumptions prior to that it would be, in fact, infamous. But I did attend my departmental ceremony - of which I now have almost no recollection...

apparently the one, back in the day, when State had 80,000 students and 10,000 graduates per semester, all of whom walked across the stage and were individually recognized and given their diploma on the spot

People actually are really excited to go to graduation now.

I think it's a result of Covid lockdown.
