Worst - soccer. Its a bunch of people who do a lot of standing around, fake injuries and kick the ball out of bounds intentionally. Also they are too dumb to start and stop the clock so they just arbitrarily add time to games hoping somebody will score a single goal.
5/6/2013 12:58:46 PM
No see what happens in soccer is the penalties and one or two subs take an extra 2 minutes or so, so they give the players a chance to make that up. Its an honorable thing to do. If you're working on something you get a chance to finish it. Neat.In football however which basically 30% Penalty time 65% Commercials and 4% running in a straight line and 1% one person making a decision, they don't want those 600lb fatasses to have heart attacks so they have to keep it short as fuck.

Pretty much every sport has it merits and its drawbacks. If you have never played a sport, it is easy to shit all over it and finds flaws just as it is easy to defend sports you have played and understand. I personally am not a fan of watching soccer, but it is a fun sport to play. I actually enjoy watching baseball because I played the fuck out of it growing up, but I can also see why people think it is boring and awful to watch. I do find it strange that anyone could shit on NBA basketball. The game is fast, involves elite athletes that need both skill and physical attributes, and it's fairly easy game to pickup and understand. I guess it's easy to just call all the players niggas and assume they are stupid instead of actually appreciating their raw ability. Plus most people have actually played basketball so they can somewhat understand the difficulty in consistently hitting a 25 ft shot.As for the nascar hate, it's pretty petty to just assume it's all a bunch of rednecks when it involves some serious brain power to build the engines they run and the minute adjustments they make in tires, handling, etc in order to maximize speed and performance.

Interesting little point: I guess there are two different meanings of athleticism being discussed ITT. On the one hand, there's your brute-force athleticism: how much can you lift, how fast can you run, how long can you maintain a grueling pace. There's very little skill in this kinda athleticism, but sports that require it (wrestling, football, soccer, basketball, tennis, etc. in decreasing order) get more love than sports that don't (bowling, golf, motor-sports to some degree) and rightly so.Then you've got your "finesse" athleticism: the ability to manipulate your environment in a precise way. Sports that require finesse are more highly prized than the brute-force sports (track and field, power-lifting, etc.)Tennis requires shit-loads of finesse but not as much raw athleticism. Football requires shitloads of raw athleticism and varying degrees of finesse, depending on where you play. Athleticism is immensely helpful and to some degree requiered in basketball and soccer, but finesse is far more important in these sports and is what makes the great players great. Bowling, golf, pool and lots of other sports require next-to-no athleticism, which is why nobody is mentioning them ITT./stupidrant]

to be fair, offensive schemes can be very complex in football. You have to be fairly intelligent to not only know every minute detail of a playbook, but be able to adapt and change successfully(audibles) based on the setup of the opposing team. The amount of stoppage time in football is my main knock on the game. I love soccer so much because its free flowing. Hockey is an amazing sport as well. It takes 100 percent every single night. Theres no taking it a little easier on the ice tonight. You will get crushed. I am constantly impressed with the tenacity and determination of hockey players.[Edited on May 6, 2013 at 3:13 PM. women's basketball is the worst. not all women's sports, women's soccer and tennis are fine to watch. women's basketball is like watching a team of short, slow tim duncans play another team of short, slow tim duncans.[Edited on May 6, 2013 at 6:01 PM. Reason : t]

There is no way anyone in here loves jai alai more than me. Its one of the main reasons I started going to south Florida instead of vegas. What other sport can you get in for free to watch some of the best athletes in the world while gambling legally at the arena?! (Well technically its called a fronton) Also Wednesday nite is $1 beers at dania beach say hi to my boy Frankie hes been bartender there sinc3 the 70s when the crowds were enormous. Fucking lottery killed the sport. Love it. If they had a fronton here id probably be there five nights a week and at the weekend matinees.
5/6/2013 6:24:01 PM
Jai alai seems cool, but there isn't any where relatively close to get exposure to it.

favorite sports: college basketball, college football, nfl, mlbfavorite, but to a lesser degree: nhl, nascar, nba. i'll watch these sports but only casually.least favorite sports: soccer, golf...i just can't get into these sports. i don't have a problem with them, i just have never been able to really get interested in soccer or golf. i'm not gonna sit here and say that my favorite sports are better than anybody else's favorite sports. i like college basketball and football because that's what i grew up watching with my dad and brother. my dad didn't have any interest in soccer or golf so we never watched it and i never got into it. simple as that. later in life i was able to get into a hockey because a friend was a season ticket holder with the canes and took me to several games. the playoff run in 2006 helped too.

Soccer is the best and figure skating is probably the worst.I'm watching a rerun of yesterdays Boca Juniors vs River Plate game from the Argentine Premiera Division on Youtube right now. 29 minutes into the second half the blue and yellow flares started filling the stadium with smoke and the fans started climbing the fence. What other sport has something as awesome as Boca Juniors vs River Plate?
5/6/2013 11:38:01 PM
Can we all just agree that soccer is the best?
5/7/2013 12:41:38 AM
haha I'm glad jai alai got mentioned, don't people get killed getting hit with the ball?also on the tennis issue, def not the elite run/jump athletes but the true 5 set guys have got to be some of the best endurance athletes around, and keep in mind they have to run on hours on concrete which totally kills your legs^and yeah I'm pretty iffy on figure skating and gymnastics, it's like trying to be art but trying to be competitive and the result comes out kind of awkward, although there is some stuff on gymnastics you've just got to be impressed with [Edited on May 8, 2013 at 8:16 PM. 7/16/2014 10:40:48 AM
Im biased but I think basketball is the best because every player has to do every job Theres really no hiding. If you forget about that, anerican football is the best because all 11 players have to do theor job timed correctly or the play is ruined. Baseball sucks because its rare that a play involves more than 4 guys on the field at a time. Most of the guys are literally just just standing there for at least 90% of every game. Soccer is awesome because its simple and can be played cheaply anywhere but american football Is obviously the more sophisticated of all sports.
7/16/2014 11:54:36 AM
I've never been a fan of any kind of fighting sports. Boxing, MMA, etc. Not that I don't appreciate what those athletes put their bodies through. But I just don't see the appeal watching two guys beat the shit out of each other.

7/16/2014 2:53:13 PM
^^I disagree. I played soccer a lot as a kid/teenager, and I think soccer is awesome (and it wasn't exactly cheap with multiple shorts/socks/cleats/shinguards/goalie gloves/goalie shirts/etc. And it requires more endurance than any other sport. And if you actually watch it, the guys take some brutal hits (watch the world cup final).[Edited on July 16, 2014 at 2:55 PM. Reason : ]

thats pretty similar to what tennis gets as well, I hated watching it before I played it bc it just looks like pong but there's a lot that goes in to each shot: individual style, spin, where to hit it, strategy against your opponent etc
7/16/2014 3:57:48 PM
^^Yeah I agree with that. There's certainly an art to the sport. It's just not my cup of tea.
7/16/2014 7:53:45 PM
ITT running the most = the best sport
7/16/2014 8:15:15 PM
^^^^ I've never been able to get into boxing or MMA even though I wrestled for 12 years. Pretty sure I am an oddball in that regard. From a spectator standpoint, I enjoy top-tier soccer and international soccer the most. I'd take a US world cup victory over any other team I follow winning a championship. After that hockey, basketball and football are kind of tied and swap places depending on college vs pro and what teams are playing. I enjoyed playing lacrosse but really only enjoy watching the NCAA tournament final rounds as a spectator. My least favorite major professional sport to watch is probably golf. Not trying to put it down but I just can't watch it much.[Edited on July 16, 2014 at 9:09 PM. Reason : ]

I can only watch like the last 4 holes of a golf major on a Sunday
7/16/2014 9:20:05 PM
They used to show some kind of Putt Putt Golf thing on TV with professional golfers playing putt putt. I thought it was much more entertaining to watch than your average pro golf tournament.
7/16/2014 9:22:42 PM
Individual sports are automatically inferior and sports where the opponents are isolated from one another competing against the course are even worse. Golf im looking at you. At least its measurable though

because soccer is the best sport ever duh
7/17/2014 10:53:20 AM
this thread is hilarious
7/17/2014 11:49:49 AM
^^^Mainly because I found the article, and i was trying to find a thread about which sports requires the most athleticism/endurance and this was the best thread i found. I wasn't implying that simply because soccer runs circles around other sports makes it the "best" sport. but it is a factor.
