^ TWC bumped their 50/5 up to 60/6 (unofficially). I have not seen more than 55/5.5 but thats what one of their tech's mentioned the other day.

So what does everybody pay for internet these days? I finally moved where real broadband is available and managed to grab a 25 Mbit $29.99 internet only plan with Comcast for 12 months. Comes out to $32 after taxes. Every time I test it, it's between 28-30Mbit so I am actually getting a little more than what I pay for and not less like I had expected. I know people like to hate on Comcast, but I gotta say I'm pretty satisfied with the speed for the price. Bumping it up to 50Mbit would have been $84 a month which is almost triple what I'm paying for 25. And since I've been living with 3Mbit for the last 6 years, this 25 seems like a dream to me. I just found out last week I could sign up with Centurylink and get 30Mbit for the same $29.99, but I'd have to drop $99 on a new DSL modem, so I'm going to stick with Comcast until the 12 months runs out or something else changes.

We moved and got a $60/month for basic cable and 50/10 internet with Comcast. I get about 53/54 down and 12/13 up consistently. I'm happy with it. We're moving again in July and might try out Century Link Fiber which is coming to Denver. They apparently offer 40/20 for like $35/month.

Too fucking much.

I love U-verse's TV service, but their internet prices are a fucking scam. I pay $51 for 6Mbs (-$5 promotion if you stay on top of it).

44.99 for TWC 20/2. I call every single time they raise my rate by a penny and threaten to leave.

After like 7 years Suddenlink finally going to start sticking it to me.

10Mbit was $35 in 2007
15Mbit was $35 in 2009 or so
20Mbit was $45 in 2012
50Mbit has been $55 for a year or so now but they finally implemented the cap they said they never would.

With 2 roommates and Netflix/DirecTV On Demand/HBO Go/x264 350GB too hard to maintain. Interesting to see what the overages will be next month. (3 months then they charge)

I guess at some point you've got to figure if you consume a shitton of data you're gonna have to start paying for it right?

Do TWC and/or uverse do caps?

Hmm $35/month for Comcast 50 down and 10 up or $30/month for CenturyLink 40 down 5 up. Moving into a new place. As much as I hate Comcast that's not a bad deal although they'll probably double it in a year. Guess I could switch back and forth between the two haha.

anybody have issues with TWC wideband slowing down during peak hours or is that "shared internet" issue a myth nowadays?

I definitely notice between 6 -8PM weekdays my speed is sometimes half the normal test speed. Our housing development is relatively new and has a lot of homes at the edge of TWC's provider area so I believe the "trunk" line gets overwhelmed from all that community netflix / homework / 6 o'porn.

Hmm weird for the last week I've been getting 125mbps / 15mpbs from Comcast. I pay for 50/10 for $35/month. Wonder if that was an accident.

according to this 120 a month (thats where I got the speed test pict). Have verified with several people at work that this is valid in a few parts of Apex but not much. Mainly brand new developments.

BRING IT!!!!

"Sources: Google commits to bringing fiber to Triangle
Updated Jan. 23, 2015 at 1:03 p.m.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Google Fiber is coming to the Triangle, industry sources say, and construction could begin as early as April.

A formal announcement might come as early as next week at Google events in Raleigh and Durham, but the company won't say what those events are about.

Speaking to WRAL TechWire, a source who asked to remain anonymous said Google is seeking bids to begin building a fiber network as early as April. "Drill crews" have been sought for the fiber-laying process.

Google has been talking with Triangle-area engineering firms as well about a network, added another source who declined to be quoted by name.."

Work.

I get a pretty solid 30/5 at home with TWC. AT&T just finished laying fiber on my street in North Raleigh, but I doubt they or Google will actually do installations in my area. Hopefully the TWC upgrades will roll out sooner rather than later.

haha, I had to go dig up my old NCSU passwords to login!

That thread your reading about over at DSLReports is mine... Here is proof, from a current speed test.

It is $120/month was a supposedly 1TB cap, but I have long exceeded that lol. Its only a $30 max overage for unlimited if they actually bill me for it. Oh well, riding the light costs money.

Why won't these fuckers come to my neighborhood?

http://www.atmc.net/res/fiber-whychoose.aspx

Quote :
"When will ATMC provide FOCUS FTTH everywhere?
ATMC currently has plans to deploy FOCUS FTTH to new or “Greenfield” developments only. At this time, it is not economical to retrofit a development where copper or coaxial cable is already in place."

They didn't seem to have a problem putting that shit in St. James and Brunswick Forest and both those neighborhoods are older than mine.

Something went wrong with my TWC connection. (Note I am connected to a proxy.) I pay for 30/5 mbps service and it is going way faster than it should. IIRC 350 mbps is actually the fastest this cable modem supports.

Roommates keep binge watching shows like Sopranos and The Wire. 350GB allowance results in 80/mo for 75meg (which used to be 50Mb). Found out 150/15 (used to be 120) was available for 90/mo with a 500GB cap.

I'll take it.

I recently switched to Uverse 45Mbps internet, but couldn't ever break about 23Mbps with the default wireless AP they have built in to the modem.

I just picked this up: http://www.asus.com/us/Networking/RTAC68U/

And on the 5Ghz network, it easily reaches 45Mbps internet, and i've measured a 80Mbps file transfer to a desktop PC (which is the max, since it's only on a 100Mbps connection). Wireless pings are in the same range as wired pings (30ms or so-- not too good but it's ADSL).
