^Seriously. The whole time i was thinking that our team better be watching this.
3/17/2013 11:10:51 PM
Man that was awesome. Not going to lie I shed a few.

Vandenberg was def not watching
3/17/2013 11:13:16 PM
^^Did, and pointed out that Lorenzo Charles' grave is there too
3/17/2013 11:14:34 PM
Very emotional to watch that. The only thing that would make that story more awesome is if 30 years later we make another miracle run and win it.
3/17/2013 11:17:11 PM
Incredible. Sounds like a lot of the current team was watching and moved.
3/17/2013 11:19:00 PM
fantastic
3/17/2013 11:24:38 PM
3/17/2013 11:26:20 PM
That was amazing. Loved it.I was dying laughing at Whit saying Terry Gannon would've shit his pants. And Terry Gannon's story on the charge call on Clyde Drexler was funny too.Great film, incredibly inspiring. Hard not to get choked up watching that.
3/17/2013 11:26:27 PM
if our team can't watch that and come out with 110% from every player, every game and a deep runor a surprise championship, we should just hang it up and stop trying
3/17/2013 11:26:37 PM
several players on twitter wanting to wear the throwback uniforms for the tournamenti seriously hope the happens
3/17/2013 11:30:13 PM
if we don't win the title, we should dissolve the basketball program?
3/17/2013 11:30:17 PM
^ Doesn't matter if we make a deep run or not, as long as we play with some heart and leave everything on the court. Howell does it every game, others need to follow that.
3/17/2013 11:30:37 PM
So who else was watching and still thought we'd screw up that last possession?
3/17/2013 11:30:41 PM
Little known fact about the 1983 Championship game. Phi Slamma Jamma had a total of 1 dunk in the game. State had 2; the first and last points in the game.

sorry you're dumb
3/17/2013 11:32:50 PM

3/17/2013 11:33:22 PM
Vandenberg was taking a shit the entire time.
3/17/2013 11:33:38 PM

3/17/2013 11:34:14 PM

i wouldve probably shed a tear if i wasnt such a tough guy, but i got a tiny eye swell right at the end when his wife said one of his notecards said to beat cancer
3/18/2013 1:02:17 AM
I shed a few during his 10 year reunion speech (even though I've seen it a number of times), ESPECIALLY when Thurl picked him up and ESPECIALLY ESPECIALLY when he led the fight song
3/18/2013 1:04:45 AM
We can wear the throwback jerseys if Temple agrees and Adidas cooperates.
3/18/2013 1:05:42 AM
3/18/2013 1:17:18 AM
How did we win the wake game? we used 30 years of luck at once and have been paying back the debt ever since.
3/18/2013 2:12:16 AM
So they used the 3 point arc in ACC play but not tournament play? Was confused on that...
3/18/2013 3:41:43 AM
Correct. The ACC tried the 3 point line and a 30-sec shot clock that ran with the exception of the last four minutes of a half or overtime. Non-conference games and the NCAA Tourney didn't have either.

Should have titled it: "The Dereck Whittenburg Story"Little too much Whitt in there...nothing shy or humble about that guy AT ALL. Probably the one guy we could have hired that would have fucked our program up worse than Sidney Lowe.Good stuff nonetheless. I always get teary eyed during the 10-year anniversary and ESPY speeches...mainly the ESPY when you see him struggling to get on and off the stage and when he talks about tumors all over his body. If you've ever had someone close suffer from cancer, that shit hits right at home. What could have been if we had never made him AD and let our program spiral out of control (and the cancer thing of course). ACC would have been EPIC with him still battling it out with K and Dean in the 90s...and K and Gary Williams after that.Karma owes us BIG TIME.
3/18/2013 9:14:08 AM
Whittneberg was the one that had the idea for the film and produced it...of course it was going to be his story
3/18/2013 9:32:10 AM
^
3/18/2013 9:35:50 AM
I know that...just wish it hadn't been that way. Seemed a little too self-promotional, IMO.Still not saying it was bad...just would have been perfect if there was a little less Whitt.Thank god there was a lot of Thurl as well. Well-spoken, more humble guy who balanced out Whitt's over-the-topness.[Edited on March 18, 2013 at 9:38 AM. Reason : .]
3/18/2013 9:38:23 AM
Hard to believe there was a time with no shot-clock. Up with the ball with 3:30 minutes left with a team that likes to run? Just dribble out the clock!
3/18/2013 9:42:25 AM
^Ommm...that's exactly what Houston tried to do.
3/18/2013 9:48:14 AM
meh...people called Coach Valvano "over the top"[Edited on March 18, 2013 at 9:49 AM. Reason : ^I think that's what he's saying]
3/18/2013 9:48:36 AM
Hard to tell with Sports Talk posters.Look...I don't want to turn this into a "I hate Dereck, he ruined the 30 for 30" campaign, so this will be my last post on the subject.First...he didn't make it a bad show. I just think it could have been one of the best 30 for 30s out there...but he took a little too much of the limelight and it turned into more of a "I'm Dereck Whittenburg and this run was just as much about me as it was Jimmy V." The guy has been out of basketball for a few years and if you don't think that he went to ESPN to do this story as more of a self-promotional thing...then you're giving him too much credit. If he was still a coach at Fordham, he could have cared less about doing this.Yes...he's a little over the top...but I think he laid it on extra thick for this special. I've seen him talk in person and seen interview clips of him in the past, and he's never been this over the top.In summation....really good special, I still like Whitt, but just could have used a little less of him last night.
3/18/2013 10:08:26 AM
Interesting that Sid was wearing stripes in his interview.... get well Sidney!
