I think people have way too much hope for Washington next season.Borderline top 100 big men are usually TERRIBLE as freshmen. Think Deshawn Painter or Jordan Collins as a freshman. Basically unplayable in a major conference. They lack coordination, strength, and ability. Typically these guys are only top 100 because size is important in basketball and coaches realize these guys can develop over the course of four years into respectable basketball players. These guys are used to dominating in high school because they don't play against guys their size. In AAU ball big men rarely get the ball since the games play out more like an all-star game with a run & gun style.Based on Anya's size and low ranking I'd imagine he's raw as hell and will basically be good for a few rebounds and fouls as a freshman. We're going to be really rough around the edges next year. The team will be super inexperienced and not really all that talented. Going .500 in conference play would be an accomplishment.

Anya is going to be awful. He's overweight and not real mobile to make up for it. Dude needs the Howell-regimen stat.Washington has a chance to be playable. When he was ranked low he was a Henson-esque string bean. He's put on a little muscle and is playing for the coach who had Warren ready to play (which means he'll probably blow on D, but might have some offense ready).Low-end Top 100 has a lot of guys who ultimately never pan out or take a few years to get there but you also get some ready to play. Hell, the year we whiffed on Painter some of the guys below him were Kawhi Leonard, Arsalan Kazemi, Derrick Williams and Jordan Williams.I'd take 8/6 from Washington and I think he can do that with the right minutes.

Will be interesting to see how the tourney game performances play into whether cjl and or zo leave for the nba
3/16/2013 6:11:29 PM
no way we finish top 4 after expansion.
3/16/2013 6:20:39 PM
^I understand the skepticism, but UNC, Duke and Syracuse all have coaches who are at the end of their careers. If we can hang in there for the next 3-4 years, with good recruiting classes with Gott, I like our chances in the long term.
3/16/2013 6:25:09 PM
What are the odds they don't replace those guys with amazing guys? What about louisville, notre dame, and pitt?
3/16/2013 6:29:24 PM
when did Notre Dame become a bball powerhouse? they have less Sweet 16s in the last 20 years than we do
3/16/2013 6:33:31 PM
They have Helms Trophies. The teams coming in have 6 Helms "Championships"[Edited on March 16, 2013 at 7:06 PM. Reason : .]

they were a 2-seed 2 years ago and lost the first weekend to #10 seed Florida State by double digitsi doubt the e man would be sucking the wolfpack's dick as passionately if we had an epic choke job of that magnitude
3/16/2013 7:42:04 PM
3/16/2013 7:56:08 PM
all complaining and bullshit aside, I would be more than happy with a Leonard Hamilton type of consistency and performance year in and year out. Especially with the offense and energy that Gott brings to the table.
3/16/2013 8:01:22 PM
Gott is already ahead of that curve...Hamilton didn't make the tourney til his 7th season, and he's never gotten past the Sweet 16
3/16/2013 8:12:49 PM
pitt and nd are the only "new" schools that could regress permanently.syracuse has a ton of fans and are used to winning. they might screw up replacing boeheim but they'll keep taking shots at it.louisville likewise. they have pitino because they have a ton of money and want to compete with kentucky
3/16/2013 8:15:18 PM
God we are seriously comparing ourselves to a school that does not give a fuck about basketball.
3/16/2013 8:33:50 PM
3/16/2013 8:41:54 PM
We need Leslie back for some post presence. Maybe a 5% chance he comes back?
3/16/2013 11:00:09 PM
If he shits the bed in the ncaa's i would guess a much larger %
3/16/2013 11:18:01 PM
^^I think its better he doesn't, for his good and ours. Time to move on.Ibtcancerjoke
3/16/2013 11:24:31 PM
Leslie and Brown are gone. Purvis will stay, but Warren might be tempted. We need both of those guys back to even be a competitive team next year.
3/16/2013 11:36:38 PM
is that comment about warren founded in anything? has anyone at all mentioned him as a potential draft pick?
3/16/2013 11:54:19 PM
Holy shit there are really retards out there that think we'd be better off next year without CJ?
3/16/2013 11:56:18 PM
I happen to think that we would've been better off this year if Leslie would've gone pro. More than likely, Painter would've stuck around and Jefferson would've committed. The combination of Painter and Jefferson would've been much better than CJ.
3/17/2013 1:10:12 AM
pretty sure Painter decided to transfer before Leslie decided he was coming back...not that Painter transferring had anything to do with Leslie in the first placemaybe Jefferson would've committed to us, maybe, but I doubt he would've led us in scoring or been 2nd in rebounding for us
3/17/2013 1:15:22 AM
3/17/2013 1:22:21 AM
painter's grandma was a bullshit excuse for the real reason: PTsame reason dethaey leftor did you guys really think philip sims transferred to uva from alabama because he had a sick family member too?
3/17/2013 2:37:10 AM
^don't be stupid. Painter didn't want to leave. If he had, he wouldn't have gone to OD. He picked that school based on location. He was at some of the pack games this year. To me it looks like he didn't leave jaded like TDT to me.
3/17/2013 8:40:54 AM
LewisPurvisTurnerWarrenAnyaBench:BarberWashingtonWe really could use a one year transfer post player and shooting guard. Next years roster is why it was so idiotic for Tyler Harris to transfer. He would've likely been a guaranteed starter next season. And would've gotten lots of minutes this year. Next year is a rebuilding year but I think we can at least be a bubble team.2014-15 has the potential to be special!
3/17/2013 8:55:08 AM
Also (double post sorry) if Gottfried can manage to give us a roster capable of making noise every 2-3 years then I will be satisfied. I'm not expecting to have a bomb squad each season but if he keeps his recruiting up we should have the opportunity for a special season every 2-3 seasons now instead of once every 10 years like before.
3/17/2013 8:58:23 AM
Id be very surprised if Anya started over Washington based on the little I have seen on the highlight tapes. Anya is ranked higher based on his size. Washington seems to have a much more polished game. Either way is not ideal. I'd love for Gott to find a Juco transfer or something to come in and give us solid minutes. Can't be that hard to find big men. Fla St. has like 5 near seven footers on their roster. Sure, none of them are great, but they can all defend and rebound which may be all we need with the solid backcourt we have.

3/17/2013 7:00:33 PM
I'd agree with Ninja if we had anyone to play in the post next year. But we don't, and CJ helps us more than he hurts us, so please come back CJ
3/17/2013 7:02:59 PM
we don't need to move on from the CJL era, we just need for CJL to step his game up a bit, so we can all love him like we did last year
3/17/2013 7:03:04 PM
mediocre cj is 20x better than any kind of Vandy
3/17/2013 7:04:09 PM
I won't mind CJL coming back if he is an on court leader. We'll be a bubble team next year anyway, with or without Leslie. We need to hand the leadership reins to Purvis, Lewis and Warren.
3/17/2013 7:14:11 PM
Some of these CJL comments in all threads of late.. If I didn't watch a game this year and read TWW I'd think every time someone passed him the ball he would just punt it 6 yards into the stands.
3/17/2013 7:16:33 PM
i dont need him to be an on court leader any farther than keeping vandenburg off of itmy point here is that vandy sucks
3/17/2013 7:17:01 PM
I wouldn't even want CJL on my pickup team[Edited on March 17, 2013 at 7:19 PM. Reason : amirite guys?]
3/17/2013 7:19:08 PM
Not sure if we will be a bubble team next year. We look pretty bad on paper we are losing everything but tj basically
3/17/2013 7:19:17 PM
ACC is basically the Big East Conf next year. Finish Top 6 and we have a legit chance to make the dance.
