I'd wear one if it was found to be useful.

qntmfred just announced that he is getting a pair when it comes out. Also, MajrShorty gets to try out the beta. I am not a person that gets jealous too often but I am there.

Our EIC is doing a 'Living With Glass' series for those curious: http://www.engadget.com/tag/livingwithgoogleglass/

I wonder how work places are going to interpret use of Google glass? This product could become the ultimate data mining tool. Whos to say it won't record things without your consent while you are wearing it and then upload the data to a server to have it analyzed and sold/used without your consent (it'll be buried in some 80pg TOS that nobody ever reads but agrees to). Its also the ultimate spy tool, smartphones these days are very similar besides actually being worn.My guess is the average joe is going to want to avoid paying for an extra data plan. I'm sure data would be $50-75 mo minimum. With most people already paying close to $100 for a phone plan this might seem a bit unnecessary.

There are more discrete spy cams that are also cheaper.

Isn't it basically a shrunk down version of this? Essentially like having a smart phone permanently stuck in front of your face. Take a look around any public place, people basically already do this. Google Glass just makes it so you don't have to look down.

^It's not practical to use a smart phone for some applications. Think about an app that showed you the next piece to add in an assembly line process, highlighting where to pick up the part and where to put it.

^^that was a funny segment

I had an in to be a "Glass Explorer" and get in on the Beta, but it just didn't make sense to me after the neat wore off, and I passed. The fact that I'd have to pay full retail price for a beta product definitely was a deciding factor.I might definitely get one, but only after the initial buzz wears off and its a more mature product at the same price.
5/2/2013 3:02:43 AM
I really wanted the beta but the cost to participate was crazy. Did they ever decide to ship them or did they make users pick them up in person?
5/3/2013 11:11:52 AM
They're gonna have to lower that price to get decent adoption.
5/3/2013 11:17:56 AM
I don't get why people are getting so worked up about barely beta hardware that won't see shelves for 12+ months.
5/3/2013 11:20:43 AM
Because its something people have been lusting after for a while, technologically. An always on HUD that (theoretically) is context aware and can display relevant info. The technology is ready, we just don't know the algorithms. Google can figure it out though.
5/3/2013 11:46:55 AM
I was thinking more about the articles I read written by people complaining about things like the battery life of pre-pre-release hardware, that they don't own, which won't even match the specifications of the hardware they might get to buy in the distant future. It's like watching people bashing electric car prototypes because the Jetsons' promised that they'd be able to fly to work.

I've used Glass for a bit -- completely underwhelming, IMO. My phone does everything Glass does way, way better. The display is just terrible. It's like looking at an NES game when you're used to seeing apps at Retina level. I hate to say it, but it's a gimmick in its current form.
