^ I don't think anyone is against updates, but the PS3 seems to have more than any other system, and they seem to take far longer to download and install than any other system.

Any new game out of the box has required an hour or so of updates to get running for me.

It has been pretty atrocious... not to mention the data rate of the blu ray drive was lower than comparable regular DVD drives on the market. The PS3 was an agonizing system, relatively speaking, in terms of updates. No one can deny this.

The PS4 looks like it addresses these issues. It seems to be a solid system IMO, and I'd definitely be interested in snagging one. We'll see what MS has up its sleeve though.

^That's because nobody from Sony seems to know what the fuck a delta update is.

I got a free copy of Pain when I bought my PS3, and as such, it's one of the only games that I have access to, and every single time they release a small update to the game I have to download 3.4 GB of data, even if the only thing they changed was the picture on a billboard.

So, did not watch but read a bunch of coverage. Still can't tell if this will be good for PC gaming or not...seems like less compromise on the horsepower side of things at least for the first few years, but introducing even more stupid gimmick peripherals.

I guess for the first time I realise I'm gettin old. Social media integration in gaming? Distracting, useless, further destruction of the hobby. More and more online dependence? They better be ready to imburse me for every second their servers go down and I cannot access my owned property -already experienced it several times with Steam.

I'll just venture a guess here.

Lately, people keep advertising a "twitch.tv" feed of them playing a certain video game (mostly PC related). Usually these are people who are so called revered at said games, and a bunch of basement dwellers seem to like to spend hours watching these video game wizards play games instead of actually playing them themselves.

I wouldn't mind it being easy to share some of my online Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 matches to critique myself and have other players give me tips.

I've felt this way for a long time about games. I feel like I'm going all John McCain getting all grumpy as games appeal more to the casual audience. Just got finished with Ni No Kuni and they would tell you the weakness of each boss. Sadness.

Word. I'm sick of system updates when just trying to watch a blu-ray... and they made it so you can't auto-update without paying... and they only recently fixed it so you download and install the update all in one transaction. How ridiculous is it to basically lock the user out of doing even basic actions in the system until they manually download an update, then prompt them if they would like to install the update - otherwise they can't do shit.

So the console is pretty ugly

And the steampunk werewolf hunter game looks a little sketchy

I'm not sure I will have to do some research on that

Yea looks as if you are right. That kind of sucks but hell we already have to pay to play online with Xbox. That is kind of disappointing that Playstation is going that route. However I really am not all that surprised when you look at how much Microsoft makes off of Xbox Live, it was only a matter of time before Sony decided to do the same thing.

At $399 I'm sold. I am a huge Xbox fan boy, but I was not at all impressed with Xbox One. The announcements they made about PS4 has convinced me.

The no used games thing is nice but every good game they showed was multiplatform besides Infamous.

I'll probably get an xbox at launch, then a PS4 next year when there are actually a lot of used games to buy.

Does the 399 version include the Eye? I read a rumor that there will be multiple PS4 price points.

Hadn't heard that I will have to look into it. I don't really have much use for the eye so if it is just a console at 399 that is fine with me. I am not completely ruling out Xbox One but I will most definitely not be buying one at launch. It will probably be a year or so before I pull the trigger on One.

I was at work so I didn't get to watch the Microsoft conference, but the summations I've read make it sound like Sony just kicked their ass. I mean, it's not even close at the moment. The indie games they showed off (which are multiplatform, but still) look more interesting than most of the stuff during the Xbox One conference.

And the used games and $400 price point are just icing on the cake.

and people are going crazy about it. they should realize it is the right thing to do. 360 killed the PS3 with their online multiplayer. i never used multiplayer on PS3 because it was terrible. it was easily worth $50 a year to have the 360 multiplayer vs the ps3.

I'm not upset at all about having to pay to play online. Xbox Live was far better than Playstation Network. Anybody that didn't see Sony starting to charge to play online was crazy. Would it of been nice for it to stay free? Sure it would have. But I never experienced outages on Xbox Live like I have on Playstation Network.

the most important thing is that sony delivers on the end user experience. xbox live is far from perfect (ad-dominated dashboard even for paying xbox live, wtf?). if sony can build a solid, consistent multiplayer experience they'll have a hard time making enough ps4's and the subscription will be a non-issue.

otherwise? derp.

Ok I didn't get to watch the ps4 part. Can someone reveal to me the mind blowing awesomeness that has people saying Microsoft got killed? Other than price point, and the whole used games thing (which to me is nothing) what did Sony do so much better?

That was pretty much it.

I thought MS games looked much more fun TBH. Oh and lots of JRPG fans got a kick out of Final Fantasy and that one with Disney characters.

It's funny how many Sony fans are suddenly coming out of the woodwork to admit the 360 had much better multiplayer. I rarely heard that before, wonder what could have happened?

Xbox One requires an always on internet connection, PS4 doesn't. That seems to be getting a lot of attention.

This picture is bouncing around twitter like crazy:

I probably won't be getting either console, but I have already heard a few of my XBox360 friends talking about making the switch for the new consoles.

On the whole I've thought that the PSN hasn't been that bad, especially given that it's free. However I've been involved in two big online bootings within the last 10 days and it's been pissing off me and my gaming community as well. Got a 3 1/2 hour race coming up this weekend and I'm gonna start breaking stuff if I get disco'd after 2 hours.

but except for knowing that the PS4 will allow you to buy used games, what else do we even know about the PS4? I didn't think we had even seen video of it the menus or it working yet.

The Division Gameplay

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=O_j9uKBmUEk

The actors trying to come off as a group of casual players is slightly annoying. The graphics are crazy...

The last line of the video is what really blows it out of the water.
