I've always wondered if Jones was roiding and if so did he just take the shit and not workout? Dude was perpetually out of shape, but could move well and seemed to never get hurt. Plus he had that whole Brady Anderson type year where he went insane and hit well beyond any of his career metrics would have suggested. Oh well. I wonder what his chances are for the HOF. I'd say 15% maybe and most of that is based on his amazing defense.

What a surprise Rat Soup getting all defensive if a Baltimore Oriole player is mentioned in any way, shape, or form on TWW. Comparing Brady Anderson to Roger Maris is weak. Brady Anderson only hit more than 20 HRs in a season twice and then has this massive outlier of 50 HRs in one season. A fucking 200%+ jump in his career high.Maris was the MVP in 1960 and hit 39 HRs before he went nuts in 1961 hitting behind Mantle and playing in Yankees stadium which was perfect for a lefty like him. Maris going to 61 was unlikely, but Brady Anderson, a fucking leadoff hitter that was more base stealer than power hitter suddenly getting jacked and crushing HRs all over the place was unimaginable. Maris's peak was ~60% over his high, not 200%. Plus Maris had his peak at 27 which is normal for elite athletes, Brady did his at 32 which means he was probably on roids. Stop being such a sensitive cunt when it comes to the Orioles. It's just a baseball team.[Edited on December 27, 2012 at 7:51 AM. Reason : df]
12/27/2012 7:50:46 AM
Well that's also a good reason it wasn't a good comparison to andruw either. At 28 he hit 51, then 41 after about 5 straight years in the mid-30s. But yes Brady obviously did something, although I have heard people (maybe cal?) defend him.

hey pal.go back to your 2013 orioles thread. oh, wait...
12/27/2012 1:19:51 PM
^^ Okay I guess I should have said that Andruw had a Roger Maris type year except that I mainly remembered Brady Anderson as another guy who unexpectedly hit 50 HRs in the steroid era. I don't like comparing guys who were clean with the steroid guys of the 90s and 2000s.Either way you are an insufferable cunt when it comes to anything that has to do with baseball. As for the Braves, adding another LF would be nice. I assume that they'll go with a Reed Johnson/Prado platoon and mix in Prado at 3B with Francisco to maximize matchups with Prado playing every day of course.
12/27/2012 2:29:50 PM
I think you're right. at least for the first portion of the season - Prado will be in a double platoon situation. I'm not sure "the right guy" is out there right now, but I'm under the impression we are still under budget. Maybe they will hold onto that flexibility until mid-season when we trade for someone and can take a contract.but that sucks for Prado, not knowing when or where you'll be playing. It's great for the team to have a player that can do anything but play pitcher or catcher (hey-ooooooo)
12/27/2012 2:42:56 PM
^^ just sayin dude, you point to steroids any time it's convenient for you when you have no reason to do so. and as much as you enjoy calling me a cunt, at least when someone disagrees with me i don't regularly resort to "fuck you," "fuck off," and calling people cunts when they disagree with me (except in my last post where i was mocking your calling me a cunt)and apparently this has pissed a few people offprobably not a good idea to go through with that design[Edited on December 27, 2012 at 4:51 PM. Fuck Frank Wren. Dude is a moron. Upton for Prado and Delgado would have been pushing it, but to throw in three more minor leaguers as well is fucking retarded. How the hell do you trade Prado period? I guess Juan Francisco is the 3B now? Who cares if Prado is a FA after this season, dude is the most valuable player on the team and we got rid of him. Fuck this shit...
1/24/2013 11:17:32 AM
doesnt Chris Johnson play 3rd? He's not a bad player

If Wren trades Jason for Kate Upton to create an all Upton all the time outfield, this may be okay.In the meantimeFUCK
1/24/2013 11:31:22 AM
^^^ Yes he does play 3B, but guy is more of role player than an every day option. I guess the Braves will make this out by saying they got two everyday starters in return for one, but that is weak. Wren sucks at trades. Prado will tear shit up playing in Arizona's hitter friendly park. Fuck off Frank Wren...

it's funny to see the reactions to this trade being at different ends of the spectrumi'm getting texts of OMG best trade ever, then reading the OMG worst trade ever reactions here. I'm currently in the middle to not approving side of things. Prado was my second favorite Brave after chipper, first going into the season.
1/24/2013 11:52:10 AM
This was a great trade for the long term. Prado wasn't going to be a Brave in 2014.

This is a great trade for the Braves. Prado is great, and it sucks to lose him, but it appears that 2013 was likely to be his last season in Atlanta. It strikes me as more than a coincidence that Prado was moved after he and Atlanta couldn't agree to terms and looked like arbitration was going to happen (the first time in like 10 or 15 years, right???).... Talking Chop has a blog post today about Prado's value. Going rate these days is $4.5-5 million per WAR (Prado is around 2.5), so he'd get upwards of $15M/yr, plus given the fact that he can play positions of scarcity, he could get $17M/yr.So do you want 2013 Prado at $11M, plus 4 more years at $16M/yr (just going with reasonable numbers there) or do you want JUp at $9M this year plus two more years at $13M-ish/yr. Of course, we gave up Delgado and Spruill as well, but Atlanta has pitching depth as usual. I liked Ahmed's potential, and I don't even know who Drury is, but in the end, the top prospect that Atlanta parted with was their #9, so they held onto ALL their top prospects in this deal. And we got a good 3B to platoon LH/RH with Francisco. Also think, we almost agreed to send Delgado to Chicago for whats his face Ryan Dumpster, that shit was a terrible deal, and I'm glad we were able to use Randall for something good, like JUp.

finally a good move by the braves this offseasoncomplete trade rape of the diamondbacks
1/24/2013 5:12:04 PM
You cannot evaluate this trade that quickly to say it was good or bad. I hate the trade simply because Prado is my favorite player and is irreplaceable with his ability to play every position except C and P. I also think Delgado still has #2 starter potential, but now he'll rot away in Arizona. If Justin Upton plays like he did two years ago, then yes this might be a good trade. If he plays like he did last year, then most likely this was a bad trade. I'm hoping the brothers playing together will help both of them reach their potential. Most likely BJ just pulls Justin down to his level and they both become .700 OPS guys that strike out 150 times while hitting 20 HRs and getting 20 SBs so people think they are special.
1/24/2013 5:40:12 PM
Delgado is never going to be better than a back of the rotation guy (even if he stayed with ATL)Prado is 30 and has 1 year left on his contractthe prospects that were given up are unremarkableI'd do this trade all day, every day and 2 times on sunday. Chris Johnson will be serviceable for a year

2/12/2013 10:51:39 AM
We need to sign Kate Upton to play right field.
2/12/2013 10:51:51 AM
Saw an article talking about how this Braves team could challenge the Dbacks record for the most strikeouts by any team in history. Let's project:1. Simmons - 100-120 Ks2. BJ Upton - 160 Ks3. Heyward - 120 Ks4. McCann - 100 Ks5. Justin Upton - 140 Ks6. FFF - 120 Ks7. StrUggla - 170 Ks8. Johnson/Francisco - 150 Ks9. Pitchers/Pinch Hitters - 200 KsPlus you get bench guys and their Ks and the Braves could be pushing 1500 Ks this season. I am doing this without actually looking up the stats too so I am probably conservative on some of the guys. This will be like the Braves lineups of old that basically won with the HR and good pitching. Too bad we don't have Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz heading the rotation.[Edited on February 20, 2013 at 10:28 AM. Reason : cv]
