^^^ I tried that, they wouldn't let me order more than 1 at a time. And if they brought one while I still had one, I had to down it before they would give it to meAlthough I played Roulette at Trop for a while and got into a good conversation with the dealer that helped shed light on the situation. Apparently all the servers are union, which makes the shitty service make sense. The dealers aren't union. He told me that they make $7.75 an hour, so they pretty much live off tips. Note to those of you planning to go to Vegas: make sure to tip your dealers.[Edited on October 22, 2012 at 4:10 PM. Reason : a]

well fuck me, Aria is one of the only Casinos we didn't go to

I fucking loved the Aria. Smells soooooooo good, kinda like a stripper

^I was in Vegas in August and ate at that very McDonalds for some late night drunk food. I can confirm it has a dollar menu and was only slightly more than it is here. So, yeah, paying $12 at Subway is highway robbery.
10/22/2012 8:36:44 PM
Agreed on the last few posts. All fast food I ate (and sadly, it was a decent amount) when I was recently there for 5 nights, was only slightly (10% maybe) more expensive than Raleigh.
10/22/2012 10:47:17 PM
WTF are you doing eating fast food in Vegas?!?!?
10/22/2012 10:49:50 PM
A: Late night drunk B: Lazy eating in the hotelI'm combining fast food with quick-food-service place like chipotle.
10/22/2012 11:12:51 PM
did anyone ever go to the grand canyon from vegas and was it worth the trip?
10/22/2012 11:14:22 PM
10/22/2012 11:51:48 PM
^^ It is worth the trip to rent the small jet to fly over it. It is not worth it to get on a 12 hour bus ride with a bunch of people IMO. You can see more from the jet and they'll fly you over hoover dam too that way.fast food is expensive in a few locations and not in others... depends on how expensive the real estate is that you're dining at. Food is very reasonable overall if you know where to find good deals, though occasionally i splurge for one of those $300 type meals in the nice places too because vegas has great places to eat.

You forgot #humblebrag yo
10/23/2012 12:27:52 AM
i don't remember Vegas... it was my 21st birthday and spring break... but i remember winning about a grand in blackjack and really crappy food at the imperial

We didn't do the Grand Canyon but we did Hoover Dam. Only about a 30 minute drive, and definitely worth it. That being said, temps were in the low 80's the whole week we were there. I am not sure we would have enjoyed the dam as much if it was 115.I will say that if you are even slightly claustrophobic then you won't want to do any of the tours at the damn. They pack you into an elevator to take you down to the generators, and they pack that bitch so tight that you can't even move. Literally touching a bunch of strangers. I even joked how bad it would suck if the elevator got stuck halfway down.[Edited on October 23, 2012 at 10:36 AM. Reason : a]

I have a convention to go to that is at the sands expo attached to the venetian/palazoo I stayed at Caesars last time...I was thinking I wanted to stay a bit closer but in a decent place...but Caesars wanted about 400 more than last year.Any suggestions or thoughts on the Rio, Tropicana or something else?
10/23/2012 2:48:16 PM
I really enjoyed gambling at Tropicana, but I can't speak to the quality of the rooms.

aria is for super old asian businessmen
10/23/2012 8:31:50 PM
I think I'll wait til Cyber Monday to book my room...
10/23/2012 8:45:16 PM
^^no.
10/23/2012 9:34:21 PM
i got some super cheap tickets, but they doubled the length of my trip. so i'm gonna rent a car and maybe spend a few days checkin out some boring stuff in the desert. I think i'll feel done with the strip after the couple days i initially planned.
10/23/2012 10:07:07 PM
right now, I'm going for a week....I can't wait.
10/24/2012 6:01:54 AM
have you ever been to aria? nothing but asians, and the vibe is for old people.
10/24/2012 7:41:16 AM
Psh. Did you get lost in the Pai Gow room? No more Asians in Aria than the rest of the strip.
10/24/2012 10:05:33 AM
^ I would have to agree with this. Asians love Vegas for some reason. I guess it's all the numbers. My flight from Houston was at least 50% Asians
10/24/2012 11:31:18 AM
im going friday. i cant even close my wallet right now. bet big to win big^ Asians love gambling because they are highly superstitious and they particularly love to gamble during "lucky" holidays. They LOVE pai gow and blackjack.[Edited on October 25, 2012 at 12:19 AM. Reason : a]

I'm at the Vegas airport right now about to head home. Spent 3 nights at the Aria.It was definitely nice! We did lots of walking around and gambling at different places, but the Aria was one of the nicest/cleanest/newest looking places around.I didnt have too much of a problem getting free drinks anywhere...even at the penny slots.Drinks were fairly consistent at the $10/$15 Blackjack and roulette tables as well.[Edited on October 25, 2012 at 12:41 AM. ^^ heads up on that. My friend had $1k in cash in his wallet when he went through security at RDU. He left it in his pocket instead of putting it through the x-ray machine and got hassled like a motherfucker. But I mean seriously, most of the time your shit is just sitting there on the other side of the scanner waiting on you to walk through the x-ray machine. I can't blame him for keeping it on him.[Edited on October 25, 2012 at 12:44 PM. Reason : a]

i keep swearing this thread is about vegans
10/25/2012 12:45:22 PM
I put my wallet in my backpack right before the scan.I also make sure to bring 100s so it isn't as obvious I'm carrying a boatload of cash.
10/25/2012 1:01:14 PM
I wouldn't trust leaving that kind of cash even in my backpack. I mean, if you get pulled aside for a random search, your shit could just sit there for several minutes. Easy pickins for would-be thieves.
10/25/2012 1:03:10 PM
Way better than leaving it out where everyone can see.You have to empty your pockets for the scan.
10/25/2012 1:05:37 PM
Good point, I guess. Either way it's a pretty vulnerable situation. Fortunately there was a Wells Fargo ATM in the Vegas Airport, so I was able to get out my cash when I got there versus taking it with me. (I researched that before I left)Also, there are BOA ATMs all over the place out there, so if you bank with them don't bother traveling with cash. My friend banks with BOA and was kicking himself for not just waiting until he got to Vegas.[Edited on October 25, 2012 at 1:09 PM. Reason : a]

Yeah, I happened to have plenty of cash on hand from poker play, plus I didn't want to deal with the fees, but I suppose if you're that worried you could just hit up the atm. FYI the places on the strip only give $20 cash back if you were going to go that route.
10/25/2012 1:14:31 PM
Oh I definitely recommend getting your cash before you hit the casinos. The ATMs in the casinos kill you with fees, then your bank will tack on even more. Cheapest ATM fee I saw was on Fremont St, and it was $3. My bank tacked on another $2

I just found the Rio had rooms for about 45 bucks a night when I want to go.I can't decide if I want to go there or somewhere else.
10/30/2012 8:21:58 AM
rio is a little ways off the strip

I am now curious about these sports books. all you can eat/drink, comfortable seating, games on big screens? this sounds very much relevant to my interests.
11/1/2012 12:30:51 PM
I'm currently on the plane to Vegas posting this.I'm bored out of my mind and hate flying so I paid the 12 dollars for internet which goes pretty slow so all I can really do is read this website. Someone tell me something awesome to do while I'm there, I've been once before. I mostly plan to do 20 hour poker sessions, and I have to go see Ray Ramano(sp?) tomorrow night(not my choice).

11/1/2012 2:44:36 PM
Yeah like I said, show isn't my choice but small price to pay to get the rest of the time to do whatever I want.I'm looking forward to hitting up a sports book on Saturday and some of Sunday and betting/watching games. I'll probably do a few ridiculous parlay bets for like $5 and just hope to hit. I'll also def. throw some money on NC State game, which will certainly mean I'll lose an they will lose. But I'm not flying all the way to Vegas to not jinx us.

^ I had NCSU +7.5 last week. Yeah, that last freak 2pt. conversion by UNC lost me $50Seriously, do Las Vegas Hilton on Sunday for NFL. It was almost an orgasmic experience.[Edited on November 1, 2012 at 3:03 PM. Reason : a]

Hey cool dudes, I'm heading to Vegas in about a month for a bachelor party. I've already read through this thread and a few others so thanks already for all the info. One question: What is the dress code like? I've never been before so my only real exposure is crap I've seen on TV and movies. Are you really expected to wear like a suit and shit? I'd imagine it would get very stuffy since it is so hot? Sidenote, I'm married so I have no intention of picking up ladies or anything like that.
5/13/2013 10:49:52 AM
if you're spending money you can wear flipflops and sweats, the casino won't give you shit. they'll even come by and top your drink off for free
