What happens if the installers aren't run in XP SP2 compatibility mode? Would XP SP3 compatibility work instead?

Maybe that would allow me to get Illustrator to launch without an error message...

worked fine for me installing in windows 8 with no compatibility changes

BTW Premiere Pro 2.0 launched just fine too.
