"biggest fraud of the 21st century"

In a time period where characters like Bernie Maddolf run billion dollar Ponzi schemes and under-performing CEOs give themselves golden parachutes while cooking the books, you choose an athlete who dopes in a sport widely known for doping as the "biggest fraud"?

This is why we can't have nice things.

Bernie Maddolf wasn't anyone's hero or poster boy for beating cancer

I always thought Lance was a smug prick and that the livestrong bracelets looked corny as hell

glad I never bought one

Personally, I feel as though lying and cheating to dominate a sport so that you can become a popular figure that can raise 500 million for cancer is okay.

I still find a situation where all the evidence comes from 'friends' and 'teammates' more than a little suspect. There is a reason that this isn't in a actual court system.

It's not in the courts b/c Lance didn't want it to go there. He didn't want the evidence against him out.

This is a good example of what happens when you stop fighting with your accusers - they run with a story and take it as fact. Gotta prove your innocence, these days.

ooooooooor maybe that shit was fuckin true. I guess I just find it hard to believe that every single witness they've got sayin Lance was juicin is lying. Coupled with the fact that Lance consistently keeps saying "I've never tested positive," that, to me, is enough, especially when he has tested positive, on numerous occasions.

Why does everyone feel the need to have big confession interviews with Oprah? What right does she have to look down on people?

^ she doesn't ask the hard hitting questions, so it's an easy way of airing out your bad shit. if he had balls (i guess he really only has one), he'd be willing to face someone who would ask the tough questions, and wouldn't provide the list of questions in advance.

The way i see it is, i don't really care that he juiced to go faster on a bike through some mountains in France. The good that came through the money and focus on Cancer research certainly outweighs that.

i do have a huge problem with the individual lives that were destroyed by him and those involved in covering up said juicing and bullying those who were trying to blow the whistle on it.

I wouldn't say that she doesn't ask "hard hitting questions". She is just much less likely to ask loaded questions or have a hidden agenda. Every interviewer wants the chance to crucify him in an interview, but I do agree he will probably get the fairest shake from Oprah. NOTE that she apparently asked him 117 pre-planned questions. You can't get that many questions without hitting some delicate topics (in theory).

I also don't really see how this is Oprah looking down on Lance.

i heard on m&m this morning that oprah and her staff were surprised about how far he went with his confession.

also, this nike commercial is funny: "People ask me: "What are you on?" I'm on my bike, busting my ass six hours a day, what are you on?"

I bought his shtick for a while mostly out of ignorance and sheer apathy about cycling. However, it seems like its been pretty obvious since at least 2005 that the dude has been doping. Literally everyone else at the top of that sport was caught doing it, and you're telling me the one guy winning all the races was clean? Impossible.

Don't have cable so I can't watch it, but following a cycling journalist on twitter who just tweeted

"So right after Lance says you can't win the Tour clean he says he was clean for his comeback?"

Yup, about what I expected from this self-serving piece of shit.
