^^^It's okay! My mother was working all the time, and she's super good at denial, and she also really didn't know any better. My father had previously done all the clothes shopping (at K-Mart) with us, and he knew what was up. He picked clothes that fit, and let us do fashion shows in the store and wear whatever stupid outfits we wanted to put together--tie-dye shirt, raincoat, and men's basketball shorts? Go for it!After those couple experiences with my mother, she realized she had no clue so I just started shopping alone and went to stores with adult sizes--Gap, The Limited, J. Crew, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Banana Republic were my mainstays--I was smart enough not to wander into 579. I even shopped at Harold's at Crabtree, like thirteen years-old all, "Yes, I actually would like some hot tea while I peruse your offerings." Ralph Lauren briefly had a young adult line just called "Ralph" at Belk, and that was my jam for a while. I was also big on vacation outlet shopping and catalog shopping. I dunno...I just pretended I was "more sophisticated" than the other girls who were half my size. Also, it was pretty sweet to plop down my father's credit card--the very rare questioning from a store clerk was met with a stern/uppity glare: It's my husband's card. And, for make-up, my mother bought me this book:http://www.amazon.com/Cindy-Crawfords-Basic-Face-Crawford/dp/0553062204She had no advice/expertise to share, but she didn't want me looking like a clown. Plus, the Clinique ladies always helped. In fact, all the store clerks were very helpful...as long as I was making purchases. [Edited on February 22, 2015 at 2:41 PM. Reason : ]
