I just get a new pair from the flea market every year or two after i lose my last pair. I've got a "around-the-house" pair of ray-bans I found in a parking lot. I think they're women's, but they're not big "stylish" ones.and how many of you are old (or young) enough to remember DBs in high school who had huge "Oakley" decals on their back window?[Edited on May 29, 2012 at 9:12 PM. man, i dropped my Maui Jims on the floor and shattered one of the lenses. As best as I can tell, you can't buy replacement lenses anywhere, other than having MJ fix them for you, for $10+shipping+$60 for a new pair of lenses.I think it sucks a little that lenses are so expensive, but I kinda expected that. What irritates me is that I have to go to the trouble of taking my sunglasses to the UPS store, paying to ship them, and waiting for the repair and return, instead of just ordering a lens or two and spending 2 minutes replacing them.
5/29/2012 11:08:29 PM
I have two pairs of Maui Jim's and I love them. They are they same model, but in different colors. I have the heavily tinted grey lenses, and the amber/brown lenses. I pick the pair based on the sky conditions and activity.
5/29/2012 11:09:11 PM
I def like polarized lenses. I currently have a pair of Revos that I got on a wicked sale. They are alright. I would much rather have a pair of polarized Ray-Ban aviators.
5/29/2012 11:16:19 PM
is there any disadvantage to polarized lenses?
5/29/2012 11:17:40 PM
You will have trouble seeing through factory tinted glass (because they are polarized too) and LCD screens are only readable at certain angles.[Edited on May 29, 2012 at 11:40 PM. Reason : ]

You should not have any problem seeing through most factory tinted glass. Tinted glass is rarely polarized. You will see 'rainbow' effect in a lot of glass, and that is actually from the molding/extrusion process.Good polarized lenses make a huge difference.

You are right, have trouble was to general. The "rainbowing" is annoying and that is a problem. The planes I fly have polarize film in them and when I wear my polarize lenses I cant see through the glass. In general I find polarized lenses annoying. They are good for snow and water activities, in my opinion.
5/30/2012 12:19:27 AM
What do you fly, by the way?yeah, I don't wear polarized when I'm in the Sabreliner. Never wore them in the Prowler, because I had a tinted visor on my helmet. Only time I fly with polarized is maybe in a light civil bird.[Edited on May 30, 2012 at 12:21 AM. Reason : ][Edited on May 30, 2012 at 12:21 AM. I have 2 pair of Dolce & Gabbanas and a pair of Coach sunglasses. Normally I would not pay such prices but my mom works at an optical shop/ophthalmologist...employee discount FTW!
5/30/2012 12:23:29 AM
Large Boeing products. Plus polarized makes it hard to read LCD displays. I had to tilt my head to read some instruments.
5/30/2012 12:29:09 AM
Yep. We just have EHSIs and EADIs; everything else is old "steam gauge". The Prowler wasn't much better. I would imagine that flying glass cockpit would suck with polarized lenses.
5/30/2012 12:39:41 AM
I just picked out a pair of these...Had them swap out the standard lenses for some rose tinted polarized lenses. love them!!
5/30/2012 8:05:19 AM
Just ordered some of these...only with the tortoise frame.Costa fantails, tortoise frame, silver mirror 580 glass lenses.I love getting them through work, I get them $100 less than retail.
5/30/2012 8:22:49 AM
I have the same glasses as theDuke866, except in the brown tortoise shell instead.

I got custom Oakley fuel cells, clear frames with black iridium polarized lenses. I ♥ them so much!

your mom!I love them My main goal was to find some that covered my entire eye/line of sight. It was actually really hard. I tried on all sorts of sunglasses. I'm sure the chick at the Oakley store was glad I actually bought a pair. I wanted these:but the red didn't come with polarized lenses [Edited on June 2, 2012 at 4:03 PM. Reason : ]

Holy shit...those see-through Oakleys might be the ugliest sunglasses I've ever seen. There's a lot of sporty sunglasses posted here. We got some MLB outfielders posting on t-dub??
6/2/2012 4:31:36 PM
lol jbrickthat was my comment on page 1lots of athletes around here apparently
6/2/2012 4:33:36 PM
are mine "athletic"? i don't know...i like mine because they're not huge...i only need them to cover my eyes, not my whole face...and i like that coverage to extend to my peripheral vision*shrug*
6/2/2012 4:46:23 PM
They are a little athletic, but they look nice. Not my style, but to each their own.The athletic style, IMO, should only be worn if you are actually doing something physical (playing baseball, golf, sport-fishing, etc.), if you're in 7th grade, or its part of a costume. Unless you have some comfort issues that only those types of sunglasses solve, you should be wearing something a little more stylish or something that DOESN'T draw attention to your ugly sunglasses. Other than when I was a redneck in high school (and of course I wore Oakleys), I usually wear something simple like these:or now that I've found some aviators I can wear...I wear them.[Edited on June 2, 2012 at 5:19 PM. i always have to recommend smith sunglasses...they have their forever guarantee so that no matter how old they are, what you paid, or what you did to them, they'll replace them for their retail valueyes, you have to pay to ship the glasses to them (it was something like $5-6 for me), but that's iti broke a pair in a style they didn't make any more and paid the extra $20 to move up to the parallels...the original ones were REI garage sale items, so they only cost $10 or $15 in the first place
6/2/2012 5:21:29 PM
Screw the haters, they fit great and I don't want to have multiple sunglasses for different stuff so they are all I've got. I love the smoke frames
