I bet Putin doesn't even last a year in Syria. Building new bases is expensive, they are slowly going broke, and most experts I've read have claimed Russia's military buildup the past few years has been big on shiny things that go on the frontline and kinda short on all the equipment required to resupply/logistics/etc

And I don't see how it makes Obama look weak. When Russia starts to fold, we'll be in a pretty good position to negotiate Assad out and really turn up the campaign among our coalition. And that's the point: We've been bombing in Syria and Iraq for about a year now, we have thousands of Soldiers/CIA in the area, we've already dropped like 10x as many bombs as Putin, we have a dozen bases and two naval fleets within striking distance of Syria while Putin is going to struggle to sustain one.

How do we forget all of that so quickly?

This is just another example of Obama playing a multi-dimensional long game and the press falling for the bluffs and stunts of Putin.

he can't ally himself with nato in isis while at the same time essentially fighting against them in the rest of syria and ukraine. theres no official agreement on how to ally against isis and turkey probably strategically chose to shoot this plane down as it was going to bomb the rebels they are supporting against assad. What a mess!

A week ago there was the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The key event of the International Economic Forum was a plenary session. Participating, in addition to the Russian Leader, were the Prime Minister of India and the President of Moldova.

The "interrogator" -- in front of 4,000 attendees representing a capital of $11 trillion -- was none other than Megyn Kelly. Topics included: Alleged Russian interference in US elections, Paris Climate Agreement, Syria's use of chemical weapons, Russian economy, and some more.

The next day, she interviewed Putin 1-on-1. Most of this was basically her trying to get him to admit that he interfered in the elections.
