They're saying the Harrison twins will push him out of the lineup in 2013.

I mean...I guess it could happen...but they're both shooting guards...and good-sized ones at that. So they could easily play SG/SF at the same time. They can play the point as well...but I don't see them as full-time point guards.

They could also make Harrow look like Kendal Marshall. Little Urkel could average 12 ast a game passing to the studs they'll have on their team in '13.

Take that back. Apparently one's a point guard. Still, they're both 6'5", and not skinny. I don't see why Harrow still couldn't get solid minutes with both of them on the team...especially if he balls out this year. I seriously wish the kid the best....but would love to have him lay monster dump on the court if we play them in the tourney...complete with Brown and CJL both Thornton/Mardesich-ing his ass.

he's a projected first round pick by a lot of people.

I don't understand the first round hype behind harrow before he even has played a game.

At last glance he couldn't shoot, finish at the basket, guard anyone, or rebound anything in the ACC.

If you suck in college and almost appear to small to be effective in the ACC, chances are you're not going to be able to play against the best players in the world either.

^^^i think calipari is planning on it too

^more sour grapes from face. he didn't "suck". he missed a lot of shots and didn't play many important minutes, but he averaged 9 points, 3 assists in 23 mpg as a freshman, and he'll have a year off playing under calipari with a bunch of future NBAers. He's not going to "suck" this year.

He definitely sucked in the Acc. There's really no question about it.

He was like 5 ppg on below 40% fg and abysmal defense.

alex johnson could average 9 ppg if he came down and threw the ball at the hoop every possession

which is basically what harrow did

now, calipari got marquis teague drafted in the first round and he fucking sucks so all bets are off. but still

i don't understand the first round hype either, especially higher than lorenzo brown who is a bona fide stud compared to ryan harrow, both physically and at the 1.

Players improve a lot with actual coaching. Now that Harrow has had a year under Cal, he should look much better than he did as a freshman playing for Lowe. Plus, with Kentucky's loaded lineup, he won't be asked to take those stupid floaters. Just distribute and make open shots when they materialize. If he can rack up 6+ assists per game and shoot better than 40%, the Wildcat hype machine will turn him into a pro prospect.

That said, he's gotta actually make those open shots. Hopefully for his sake, he's been shooting all offseason.

I just don't get it.

Even if he plays okay this year he's going to be a 22 year old with one decent season under his belt, no size, and plays a position that every team in the league already has filled.

Count me out on the Ryan Harrow first round hype train. Not seeing it.

i want to say that all that said i'd still love him as our backup point guard this season... but that just sounds stupid. this kid's not going to be a junior backup regardless of whether or not lowe stays.

it ain't just a hype machine*, there's also the perennial on-court success, which offers empirical evidence (to some scouts) about the potential of a prospects future success

NyM410, wtf is UCONN doing giving Ollie a one year deal?

A. He can't possible recruit well with that.
B. Are they really going to shit on Calhoun that badly by firing all his staff with him still on campus and around the program?

Read this last weekend, but didn't post anything about it. I'm sure the State article is posted somewhere, but Jeff Goodman went to all three triangle schools and watched practice. Here is what he had to say about Duke:

http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/blog/eye-on-college-basketball/20617791/thoughts-observations-on-the-duke-blue-devils

Quote :
"10) Freshman Amile Jefferson isn't ready to make an impact. He's talented but doesn't really have a position yet -- and isn't physically ready. He needs to put on weight and also work on his skills, but he has a chance to be a quality player. If Duke had enough bodies, Jefferson would be an ideal redshirt candidate."

One reason I wasn't crushed with losing Amile. He MIGHT have given us minutes this year, but I didn't see it happening. Even over TDT and Vandy...just because he wasn't physically ready. Anyways...no sour grapes, still wanted him...but basically says he would have redshirted on most Duke teams.

Here's the one on UNC:

http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/blog/eye-on-college-basketball/20606480/ten-thoughts-observations-about-north-carolina-tar-heels

And the one on State of course...I think he creams his pants over Brown:

http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/blog/eye-on-college-basketball/20641178/ten-thoughts-observations-about-nc-state

Quote :
"1) These guys have more overall talent and fit together better than those teams down the road in Chapel Hill and Durham, but what honestly puts N.C. State over the top is at the point guard position. When you compare Lorenzo Brown to either Marcus Paige or Quinn Cook, it's not even close.

2) Brown is an elite point guard. Not just in the ACC, but in the entire country. There's nothing this kid can't do. He's got the physical tools -- the size and scoring ability, but now he's added command of the point guard position. He simply does it all: He makes his teammates better, can shoot it from deep, gets into the lane, is able to post-up smaller point guards and also defends. If N.C. State wins the ACC this season, Brown will be the primary reason. "I wouldn't trade him for anyone," Gottfried said. Coaches say that about their guys all the time, but I honestly believe Gottfried on this one.

....He may put up better numbers than Brown, but Brown is this team's best and most valuable player. "

Also found this while perusing IC boards from a high school coach (I'm guessing), who goes to UNC's Coaches Clinic every year to watch them practice:

http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=78&f=1414&t=10046896&p=2

Quote :
"I watched practices #6 and #7. That seems to be a little earlier than we normally see (usually around 13 or 14). I felt immediately as if I were watching the most scaled back practice I had seen (in terms of complexity, NOT work) since ’06. I keep pretty detailed notes about what I see and my previous notes seem to bear this out. Our practice for the ’09 championship team was as complex as anything I’d seen and it was in the first week of the season. In terms of complexity, the short version is this. The more experience Coach Williams’ teams have, the quicker things move and the less talking there is. I watched Coach stop practice more times in 2 hours Saturday than I’ve seen him stop in 3 years. About every thirty seconds of actual time ended up in a lesson. That’s pretty unusual down there.

.....

I left Friday night after practice almost completely despondent. The pace of practice, the slow learning curve, the lack of size, the inexperience, the freshman struggles, the glut at the wing and the shallowness of the post. I thought to myself if we can win 13 games this year, I’ll be happy.

....

We could finish as high as 3rd and as low as 8th or 9th. Totally depends on Dexter and Reggie’s leadership, if you ask me. I’m really looking forward to seeing Brice, Tokoto and James progressions… and I hope Marcus Paige is as special as I think he is (though he is very, very light…)."

I think I said it in the NC State thread....but Brown is just going to destroy Paige and Cook this year. I cannot wait.

I agree. Most everyone in college bball think Ollie can be a very good recruiter and coach but he is basically being given a fuck you before he gets a chance.

With the new ridiculous $40m bball facility in the works they think they can get Shaka Smart next year from what I've read.

From ESPN insider...

Quote :
"There's been a lot of talk this offseason about Kentucky's highly touted freshmen, but the most important player might just be sophomore Ryan Harrow. The N.C. State transfer sat out last year due to NCAA rules and must replace Marquis Teague's playmaking ability.

With that said, he's listed as "questionable" for Friday's opener against Maryland due to flu-like symptoms."

Anybody been watching UK's All Access?? Harrow is a mess. Seems like Calipari is begging Goodwin to be able to play the point because he doesn't think Ryan can handle it. Would be surprised to see Mays take some of his minutes as well.
