I fucking love this showwatched Tiny Furniture Sunday. Lena Dunham may be my new hero.

^I thought Tiny Furniture was seriously terrible, but I'm loving this show so far. It's waaaaaay funnier IMO. Tiny Furniture came off as a wannabe Garden State to me, which is just a weird thing to go for. But this show's been great 2 episodes in.
4/23/2012 8:49:46 PM
tiny furniture is light-years better than garden state, despite my not understanding the ending.i didn't get a garden state vibe at all.
4/23/2012 8:58:37 PM
I don't get the Garden State comparison at all, but this show is certainly an improvement on Tiny Furniture.

The fact that you're calling it a Sex and the City spinoff shows how much you don't get it.
4/23/2012 11:21:00 PM
well never watched sex in the city either oh well, guess ill just have to miss out
4/23/2012 11:24:16 PM
Again, it's basically the Anti-SatC

4/23/2012 11:43:07 PM
the "WHOOSH" that I'm hearing as this show goes over peoples heads is pretty awesome
4/23/2012 11:49:06 PM
It's weird how this show seems to really be polarizing to most people. There doesn't seem to be much of a middle ground. Personally, I'm still undecided. I definitely can't relate to much that I see, but I don't necessarily have to completely relate to something to enjoy it. Still on the fence as to if I'm going to keep watching, but seeing TWW's standard group of pretentious douchebags ranting about people "not getting it" is really making me want to go towards the not watching it anymore side of the fence.
4/24/2012 12:07:07 AM
newsflash: you're just as pretentious as the people you constantly call out for being pretentious
4/24/2012 12:11:16 AM
because it's all about disregarding your own feelings towards something in favor of how other people feel about it
4/24/2012 12:11:29 AM
I didn't say I would let you asshats be the deciding factor. But you simply can't deny that the overwhelming feeling in this thread is that if you want to like this show, it really helps if you're a pretentious dickbag. And if you don't like the show, you're too dumb to get it. Neither of which are true.

Feel free to show me examples in the iPad thread where people have been made fun of for buying other devices instead of the iPad and made to feel stupid because they "just don't get it".If you don't like the iPad or this show, I could not possibly care less. But y'all are practically attacking people in here just because they don't like this show. It's great if you like something, that's what this thread is for (much like the iPad thread), but some of you are taking it way too personally when someone disagrees with your opinion. And really? The I'm a fan of the iPad? That's the best retort you've got?[Edited on April 24, 2012 at 12:43 AM. Reason : Sent from my iPad.]

I haven't attacked anyone for not liking the show, I just pointed out that a certain poster didn't know what she was talking about when she made a baseless and irrelevant comparison. She even admitted as much after the fact. I have no problem with people criticizing the show, it's just that the criticism has to be based on something remotely legitimate not ignorance or a short attention span.

I get it, I understand that we are not really supposed to relate to it. But what if you just don't relate to the writer's brand of humor?
4/24/2012 12:56:18 AM
Don't watch it?
4/24/2012 1:01:40 AM

touche, I watched the whole dang thing after reading the thread. that is why I posted again

I don't mean to deny all similarity. Scream and Halloween are slasher films. SatC and Girls are shows about women in New York City. However, SatC is about glitzy women in search of men while Girls is about girls who have no idea what they want or what to do with their lives.Girls is not a terrible spinoff of SatC.
4/24/2012 1:51:30 AM
I don't disagree with that. I guess I just see 'anti-SatC', 'this generation's SatC', and 'spinoff of SatC' as varying degrees of the same idea. Either way, the influence is there, for sure.]
4/24/2012 2:06:37 AM
"really terrible spinoff" just struck me as incredibly reductive, especially when stated after barely having seen either show in question.[Edited on April 24, 2012 at 2:18 AM. Reason : .]

comparing the two shows is a lot like when talking heads in the sports media compare black quarterbacks soley on the basis of them both being blackin both instances it's extremely lazy and stupidjust because both shows feature women living in New York doesn't mean that one is remotely like the other

This week's ep was great. I love this show so hard.

Aside from 4 girls in NYC show format, let's compare characters.Hannah (Dunham) & Carrie (SJP) both writers, lead character, Dunham doesn't narrate thoughShoshannah (Mamet) & Charlotte (Davis) both pure, shoshannah with the added virgin effectMarnie (Williams) & Miranda (Nixon) both seemingly with their shit together, kinda judgy of the other friendsJessa (kirke) & Samantha (Catrall) the more promiscuous ones in the groupGirls, all fresh out of college & barely scraping by. Seemingly more "real" and relatable.SatC, were in early thirties (forties for Samantha) and more established in their careers with an upper class lifestyle most only dream of.That said I am a fan of both shows...writing and filming style is the biggest difference.[Edited on April 24, 2012 at 8:57 AM. enjoyed this episode as well. I don't love the show and wouldn't stay subscribed to HBO just for this, but I'll certainly continue to DVR and watch it while we are subscribing.
4/24/2012 9:01:56 AM
^^ sounds like they're remotely similar to me, thanks for that breakdown. It's funny that all those quick to defend comparisons to Sex in the City because its lazy and stupid have probably never watched Sex in the City either

Casper & Patrick Swayze in Ghost were both ghosts...similar characters

^i've literally never spoken to you. where the hell is that coming from? you're a little quick to the insults for someone who's so boldly accusing others of being "dickheads" and/or "douchebags."

whoa whoa whoa .... back to the topic of the t.v. show 'Girls'also, dillydaliant meet tacolu ..... he likes to rub people the wrong way, akin to geniusboy but politically opposite.

There's nothing interesting about 20-something women...or men for that matter. Doesn't matter that it's funny, its uninteresting.
4/30/2012 8:35:09 AM
I enjoyed the first two episodes, but honestly I didn't really get into last night's for some reason.
4/30/2012 8:47:41 AM
Loved last night's ep.

it's the subtleties in some of the looks that Lena Dunham can give that absolutely floor meand that scene was a perfect example
