A few rambling thoughts here....I saw that Zo played 40 minutes yesterday, and I was thinking that with our endurance this year and the longer TV timeouts for the tourney games, we really should be able to go the distance at most of our starting positions. If Howell and Leslie can just stay out of foul trouble, I can even see them playing most of the game. However, Painter really had some huge minutes yesterday with Howell out, and we'll probably need him with Gtown's Sims in the middle, but it'd be absolutely great to not need him. I haven't seen much Gtown ball this year, but Sims looks pretty legit. On the defensive end, it'll be interesting if they how much they utilize that zone. We'll need Wood to make them pay if they do. It's so great to still be nervous in March...so much better than being apathetic.

Go Pack!

^^^ haven't seen them play since early this season, but it seems that they play 7 deep for the most part, with a couple other guys getting a few minutes here and there, depending on the game. Most of their players played significant minutes yesterday (a little less than ours, of course)... hoping that their later start time will give us some slight advantage tomorrow, but that's probably a stretch.

Georgetown lives off points inside the arc. I doubt they get those against us.

They don't shoot threes at all. That's our main weakness defensively.

Defensively they are horrid.

They are hopelessly short and have zero depth.

I like NC State vs the spread. This has all the makings of a 30+ point game that might only be a 15 point spread.

Pregame analysis:

Georgetown is a legit #3 seed, unlike SDSU who should have been a #12.

We've got our work cut out for us.

However, they haven't played that well the past several weeks and there's no reason we can't compete with them.

Offensively, they are a good team ranked #35 overall. Defensively they are a standout team ranked #6 overall. As always, they play at one of the slowest paces in college basketball. They really focus on execution and control the tempo against everyone utilizing a Princeton type offense. We tend to struggle in halfcourt and are at our best in uptempo games due to our athleticism and 3 point shooting in transition.

For such a slow pace they do tend to turn the ball over and don't force many turnovers. They lead the nation in 3pt% defense though, so if you think we're going to get wide open looks you are nuts.

They lack depth, have a lot of size, they don't attempt or make many 3's, or get to the line a lot.

Their main strengths are just overall efficiency on both ends, height, and great FG% defense.

Expect a dogfight, I'd take Georgetown 63-57

we need to start something new for this game. everybody dont just start jumping up and down before the game, do a chant with it.

like...we start jumping and then along with it go "ooooooooooooo" and get louder like "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH" and then switch to "PACK! PACK! PACK! PACK! OOOOOO PACK! PACK! PACK! PACK! OOOOOOOOOOOO! POWER PACK! POWER PACK! BACK THE PACK!" and then play a loud rockin rap song or somethin. i think it would get things crazy.

Quote :
"COLUMBUS, Ohio — John Thompson III doesn't remember the last time N.C. State and Georgetown met in the NCAA tournament, but his dad does.

Georgetown, coached by John Thompson, beat N.C. State, 69-61 in the Round of 16 in the 1989 NCAA tournament. Wolfpack guard Chris Corchiani was called for a travel with 1:47 left in the game, which was the second game the Hoyas won in that tournament which included a controversial finish.

Georgetown, the No. 1 seed in the East, beat 16th-seeded Princeton in the first round in '89 when Alonzo Mourning blocked a shot by Princeton guard Bob Scrabis at the buzzer.

"When you were asking that question the first thing that went through my head was there are a lot of people in Princeton, New Jersey who think Alonzo Mourning fouled Bobby Scrabis on the last shot of that game, too," Thompson III said Saturday. "So that must have been a theme that year."

As soon as Thompson III finished his comments, his dad — standing behind a curtain next to where the press conference was set up at Nationwide Arena — boomed: "And both of them are wrong."

The Hoyas and Wolfpack will get together again in the NCAA tournament on Sunday (12:15 p.m.) with a trip to the Sweet 16 on the line. The elder Thompson, who is in Columbus doing radio for Westwood One, had little sympathy for N.C. State fans, who through the magic of YouTube, are still smarting from referee Rick Hartzell's travel call on Corchiani.

“Who won that game?” Thompson said. “If we had lost, and it had been the other way, I’d be doing the same thing they are.”

Corchiani watched N.C. State's second-round win over San Diego State and will be at the arena for Sunday's game said he didn't watch a replay of the call for 15 years.

"I remembered it well enough when happened," Corchiani said.

With 1:47 left, and the Wolfpack down three, Corchiani drove down the left side of the lane and dropped in a shot over Mourning, Georgetown's dominant center. Instead of a potential three-point play, and a fifth foul on Mourning, Hartzell called a travel on Corchiani.

"There it is!" CBS analyst Billy Packer said during the broadcast of the game, in reference to Mourning's fifth foul.

After Hartzell's call becomes clear, Packer was incredulous.

"Nowhere near a walk," Packer said.

Corchiani made peace with the call before the start of the 1989-90 season. Hartzell worked a preseason game at Reynolds Coliseum and, according to Corchiani, apologized to him and former coach Jim Valvano for getting the call wrong.

"I have nothing but respect for (Hartzell)," Corchiani said. "It's kind of ironic that they would play Georgetown again but I'm over that game."

Corchiani and the 1989 N.C. State team were recently in the spotlight again after Corchiani and Tom Gugliotta were thrown out of the N.C. State-Florida State game on Feb. 18 in Raleigh by referee Karl Hess.

Corchiani and the '89 team, which won the regular-season ACC title, were honored before the UNC game in Raleigh with the "Wolfpack Unlimited" award on Feb. 21."

This is going to be a tough game to win. Even if we get crushed I am still happy that we made it this far. Never been this excited for the NCAA tourney. I feel bad for being down on Gott after we lost to Clemson.

However, I'm still mad about the 6 yard punt against Clemson and missing the ACC championship in football under TOB.

Another article on the game tomorrow. Interesting commentary on Levi Watkins and his perspective on running a Princeton offense. I guess he does have some experience on that front, obviously.

Scott Wood refers to him as both in his interviews. Usually it comes out as CJ Calvin. But I love that Howell referred to himself in the 3rd person. He's been a real personality in his interviews lately. Some of these players clamp down in front of the media, but he's really keeping it going.

Hate to bring the negative vibes, but everything I read about this Georgetown team just makes me nervous about the game. I know it's basically gravy at this point for us, being that we didn't expect to be here. But now that we're here, I very much do not want this to end.
