^Yep.It may be unethical and or immoral, but it sure as hell ain't illegal. It's 100% the responsibility of the seller to set the value and worth of the item they're selling.

in a normal transaction, yes. but if you take it to an appraiser or someone that is otherwise knowledgeable and they lie to get it from you cheaper, i'm pretty sure they can get in trouble for that.

If you PAY for an appraisal and they grossly misrepresent the value, then you have a breach of contract.If you are SELLING your item to an expert and expect them to give you an honest valuation of the item's worth, you are just being a sucker. It happens that way on television because these are business to business dealings (appraiser knows they can get a steady income stream) and because it's positive publicity for their business to be "honest Abes" on tv.
