^ Infinite Jest has a large amount of the plot about AA, that quote was about all the crazy shit you hear in there. Because they can't kick you out it can trend towards being boastful about all the awful shit in your past.

AA definitely didnt help me get sober, certainly made it worse, i probably relapsed more going to those groups. If you wanna get laid it works pretty good, also great place to sell drugs and hang out with other degenerate scumbags. Im clean and sober 45 months now, i did/ am doing it by filling my time with useful activities, working alot and excercise. You dont need some losers in a church basement who constantly talk about alcohol and keep bringing up all the dumb shit they did to stay away from boozahol. First say im not going to buy or consume alcohol. Then keep the promise to yourself. Fill the void with other things. They talk about "hitting bottom" in AA, but i dropped through so many i felt like i was free falling. It can always get worse. Last time i got arrested i was looking at a 30 bid. It all got dismissed an lifes alright now. Why are you drinking in the first place? What are you trying to escape? Identify those things and figure out how to fix them. Cos all my dranking an drugging didnt help the pain a damn bit, and made it all alot worse. Good luck
