That's one of the methods from the link you posted, so I have you to blame if it doesn't

ha it's been a while since i posted that!

Got some folks from the astronomy wing outside my building now setting up some high powered telescopes with filters. I went down to talk to them a few mins ago and they had some ultra sunglasses too. I looked right at the sun with the glasses and it looked like a full moon, it was kind of weird. I could see some sunspots through the telescope too but Venus isn't visible yet.

I got clouds as far as the eye can see and no wind at all. oh well, I guess I'll have to check it out next time.

i got a good view of it with my binocular/notecard rig!!!
6/5/2012 6:53:55 PM
this is on the morning shows here and they are making fun of how ridiculously boring this is
6/5/2012 7:05:41 PM
fuck a damn duck. I think I missed it because it was cloudyI did make a pinhole camera though. I can see the sun and clouds.
6/5/2012 7:10:37 PM
it's still happening. go try again.and yes, for most people it is probably one of the most boring things in the world. i'm about to nerd-splooge all over my binoculars though.
6/5/2012 7:32:54 PM
fuck, really!? I just turned on a nasa stream and it seemed like they were done with it.
6/5/2012 7:33:37 PM
nah go back outside! shit will last way past sunset (east coast)
6/5/2012 7:37:45 PM
i just got a good view of it... projected it up on my wall through the binoculars
6/5/2012 7:45:14 PM
I just became a hero to all of the tower folks here at RDU when I nabbed a pair of binoculars and made a projection outside. Everyone was coming out to see it and take pictures. [/nerd] http://sunearthday.nasa.gov/webcasts/nasaedge/ is what I'm streaming. Right now they're talking about telescopes.[Edited on June 5, 2012 at 7:49 PM. Reason : .]

Projected on my garage wall with a mirror
6/5/2012 8:15:13 PM
nice!!
6/5/2012 8:15:48 PM
I used the pinhole mirror technique... took a 6-inch diameter mirror (my wife's)...covered it with electrical tape except for a 5mm x 5mm hole... Put it 40 feet away at the end of the driveway and reflected the sun all the way into the garage.. i am impressed it worked as well as it did... i was a little skeptical

Taped some welding glass to the front of binoculars. Worked great, you can even see what I think are sun spots (can someone smarter than me confirm this?)Oh, yeah, and then I put my SLR on the end of the binoculars. It was a crazy setup[Edited on June 5, 2012 at 8:32 PM. Reason : .][Edited on June 5, 2012 at 8:35 PM. Reason : ..]

Yes, those are sun spots. Here are my pictures using binoculars, a box, a phone book (to adjust angle) and another box with a piece of white paper taped to it.That one was using the flash on my iphone, but it shows the sun spots here too. [Edited on June 5, 2012 at 8:49 PM. Reason : .]

it's so awesome people actually took the effort to check this out

Smath74 and I are planning a trip to Mars for the 2084 transit of the Earth. Who else is in? We can split the cost.
6/5/2012 9:10:22 PM
I'm not sure if that's Venus or just a dead pixel.
6/5/2012 10:57:11 PM
Got out my 80mm refractor + solar filter and watched the beginning of the transit until the clouds hit However, I did manage to snap a few photos from my phone's crappy camera, but I'd really like to get a decent dedicated CCD for my telescopes so I can start getting better-than-crap quality photos. Didn't think to get any shots of the sunspots, so I'll have to do that at a later date. For anyone interested, I got this with 120x zoom via a 600mm focal length on the scope and a 10mm eyepiece + 2x barlow lens setup, taken through the eyepiece. Visually it was much more appealing EDIT: The significant distortion/blurriness of the edges is due to my line-of-sight being over a hot black roof - just like looking over hot pavement, but 120x more obvious.[Edited on June 5, 2012 at 11:30 PM. The clouds didn't break here all day. Couldn't even see the sun through the clouds. Had to watch it online

I just stared directly at the sun. Other than seeing bright spots all day today it was a cool show.
