Definitely an epic fuckup.

I tried last night for a couple hours and got nothing to resolve
2/29/2012 7:48:16 AM
I got to an order screen on one of the sites and entered all of my shipping info and then it timed out.

you can (pre-)order it for US delivery here: http://www.newark.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?id=83T1943&Ntt=83T1943$35 + $20 handling = $55[Edited on February 29, 2012 at 10:18 AM. Reason : .]

One of the commenters over on theverge summed it up rather nicely:

2/29/2012 12:52:23 PM
so when is the 2nd batch going to be sold?

got 3 from newark
2/29/2012 9:13:05 PM
^^ comments suggest that they might still get charged shipping since it doesn't update the shipping cost until it actually shipsthat's weird and dishonest
3/1/2012 8:10:28 AM
^not dishonest at all. I've ordered from them a few times and they tell you 2-3 times before your order is finalized that shipping charges are not shown because they charge actual cost and will notify you with the actual charges when the product ships. Not the best policy if you're ordering a 100lb tv but it works well for most of their products (though an estimate would be a good idea).
3/1/2012 1:58:12 PM
i'm waiting on the educational cased models
3/1/2012 2:34:41 PM
Not only is it dishonest, I'm pretty sure it's illegal to change the amount you are charged after you agree to the charges.
3/1/2012 2:36:13 PM
Maybe in the US, but apparently not in the UK.Btw I agree with Nacho. They completely fucked up this product launch. Basically they did the polar opposite of everything they said (and promised) they would do.I'll still be buying one, but not until they are coming from a reputable US distributor.
3/1/2012 6:36:53 PM
Just got an email that mine will be shipped April 3rd.
3/2/2012 5:02:28 PM
You may get to wait even longer....http://www.techweekeurope.co.uk/news/raspberry-pi-needs-ce-certificatio-70202
3/29/2012 12:50:46 PM
Yep - last I checked my ship date was mid August.
3/29/2012 12:52:13 PM
You'll be able to buy a chinese clone for $10 by then.[Edited on March 29, 2012 at 1:11 PM. Reason : .]

Most of the crazy robotics demos with computer vision have laptop boards mounted on them somewhere. This thing would be a God send to robotics labs.[Edited on March 29, 2012 at 10:45 PM. Reason : a]

Competitors are starting to pop up:http://apc.io/
5/22/2012 2:54:06 PM
looks like they are already out of business
5/23/2012 2:43:50 PM
Got my shipping confirmation from Newark. Ended up being $5 shipping and $2.70 tax for a total of $42.70.
5/29/2012 3:22:55 PM
Apparently that $5 was for next day shipping. I feel like nerd MacGyver getting this thing working.
5/30/2012 5:23:52 PM
I bought one from apc.ioCan't wait.
6/18/2012 5:40:03 PM
anyone tried out XBMC on this yet?
6/18/2012 10:23:20 PM
I've been meaning to. Actually, shit, I'll do it right now. I hadn't tried it out before now because I didn't have a usb mouse, but I ordered a $3 one off ebay that got here 2 days ago so I will try xbmc and report back.
6/18/2012 10:30:33 PM
It's not half bad. Installation was easy, even for n00bs. It even downloaded the latest build automatically during initial setup. I had read plenty of people online complaining that audio over HDMI wasn't working properly, but it seems to be fine on mine. Outputting DTS 5.1 right now. It even works with the official xbmc iPhone remote app. I read it works with the Android one too. Has major artifacting when you skip around, even on small SD files, but it goes away after a couple of seconds. I tried one highish bitrate 1080p movie that had small amounts of constant artifacting and it stopped every minute to buffer (I'd classify that as unwatchable) but I've been watching Avatar (16GB 1080p Bluray rip, streaming off a Windows share) now for 8 minutes and it hasn't skipped, artifacted, or buffered once. Overall, I'd say I'm pretty impressed. Especially since this is pre-release software running on $35 hardware. My initial reaction is that this is almost as good as running XBMC on an ATV2. I think once the bugs get worked out, it will be as good as, if not actually a little better. [Edited on June 18, 2012 at 11:20 PM. Reason : I never even touched the mouse. Not sure why I was waiting for it. ]

^3 thanks, I might have to get one then. I'd like to be able to not have to plug my laptop into the TV all the time to watch stuff, but I don't want to pay for a dedicated PC to stream stuff.[Edited on June 22, 2012 at 11:45 AM. Reason : as long as it seems to work slightly more often than not]
6/22/2012 11:45:01 AM
I would still recommend a Roku/popcorn hour/wdtv/Apple TV/anything else over this if you're looking for that. Unless you have a strict $35 budget.
6/22/2012 1:36:29 PM
I hope the APC.io model can provide some simple support to allow my nephews to be able to play a little pogo, facebook, and some music.considering the computer they are using is 7 years old...it should be a big upgrade.
6/23/2012 2:12:10 PM
is this available anywhere in the US yet?

Which of these things have the best hardware (primarily processor and gpu) for the money?I thought i remember reading something that the raspberry pi has a really good gpu...

If you want your Raspberry Pi connected to the Internet without using up your own connectivity, a little webhost in Austria will keep it comfy for free: http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2012/10/hosting-company-wants-to-house-your-raspberry-pi-server-for-free/

mine has been siting in a box since I got it - might just do this.
10/12/2012 1:18:46 PM
Not to take away from the Pi but has anyone here looked into cubieboard?Basically a pi with double the processing power, double the memory at 1GB, 4GB nand built in, ir sensor, and many pins, most of which are able to function as gpio. Seems like a nice little bump in power for a small bump in price. Processor I believe is ARMv7 so it should support newer androids fairly easily along with linux distros and maybe even windows 8 assuming one could emulate a RTC or tie one in (not sure if it has one)

Anybody have one of these running retropi?I just ordered a 3, planning on installing retropi on it since I can't get my hands on a Nintendo Classic.
3/8/2017 8:42:27 AM
Yes I do and it is amazing. I have the entire NES, SNES, and Sega libraries. I use a standard PS3 controller (wired) and it works just fine.
3/8/2017 10:40:57 AM
How did you get the ROMs? Torrents?
