The Euro also paints some accumulating snow in central NC on Tuesday morning LOL. This thing is highly anomalous so who knows what will happen.

^Sam Champion and his "Extreme Weather Team" are the greatest at that. I hate watching him blow stuff out of proportion every morning. Then the local mets have to polish or clean it up.The Weather Channel's guilty, too, with this whole "naming winter storms" business, but that's not hurricane related.
10/25/2012 8:14:48 PM
^ Yup. Watched ABC evening news tonight; it's what inspired my post. They were talking about 80mph gusts, but the graphic displayed as though it were sustained. Also, the chick (Ginger?) talked about "10 foot seas and DEADLY rip currents". That is not extreme. That is normal for a cat2 storm Whole-heartily agree about TWC too...Jim Cantore runs out here every season fapping to his "this place is fucked and everyone's going to die" episodes. It's enough to make me rage, Lewis Black-style. The arctic winds mashing with the tropical system in the northeast next week could be bad, but how the fuck can you tell? They're reporting on Sandy with the same fervor that they use for the most minor of tropical depressions, and the average guy can't tell when the proverbial wolf is there or not. Fucking Weather Pundits. /rant

Weather forecasting is one of those things that I actually look to TWW opinions with genuine anticipation of insight. Besides that we have a few professionals and hobbyists scattered around, everyone in general is jaded and bitter enough to cut the hype and throw out a more practical analysis.
10/26/2012 12:37:19 AM
I saw a halo around the moon tonight... therefore snow?
10/26/2012 1:25:45 AM
10/26/2012 8:21:23 AM
Welp, the rain has arrived. light but steady in Nags Head since about 10 am & coming down at a 20-30 degree angle
10/26/2012 12:18:49 PM
I would love no work on Monday and Tuesday
10/26/2012 1:23:15 PM
me too, but unfortunately I'm gearing up for storm work. The thought of 80mph winds and snow is making utilities go into meltdown mode.

10/26/2012 2:39:22 PM
It's ridiculous how potentially big this thing could be. Actually saw a group of chasers from Arizona heading east through Oklahoma today...
10/26/2012 2:52:32 PM
Translation: it will be a big nothing. Heh.
10/26/2012 3:03:40 PM
Yeah this is just a lot different than your normal hurricane scenarios. I am looking forward to watching how this whole thing unfolds. I dont think Raleigh will see many effects but the far eastern part of the state should have a shitty weekend.
10/26/2012 3:08:19 PM
mehhhh...no one on the coast is worried.we have a house down at the beach and i considered staying down there this weekend.just rain and a little wind. storm wont be much. delaware maybe, but thats about it.

10/26/2012 7:50:07 PM
What is the best source to be looking at (besides THE TWW ELITE) for hurricane info and updates? NHC models and graphs are what I'm used to looking at.

10/26/2012 9:50:15 PM
http://www.spaghettimodels.com is good for a barrage of images/model output.http://www.americanwx.com is a good forum to read for updates, but full of huge weather weenies.
10/26/2012 11:50:30 PM
so i'm in northern NJ now, and at first i didn't think much of this storm, but all this Perfect Storm talk and talk about week or more power outages is making me take a closer look. this thing being overhyped for the NE or what?
10/27/2012 3:21:56 PM
Overhyped for sure, but I would still be prepared for widespread power outages, yes? Which does require some preparation on your part.
10/27/2012 3:38:20 PM
well we got food, extra water, batteries and flashlights so i think we're pretty well prepared. as stupid as this probably sounds, i'm more concerned about a week's worth of productivity going down the drain.
10/27/2012 3:45:44 PM
The only people that should be truly concerned are the ones who take Jim Cantore at his word(s) during an approaching tropical system.
10/27/2012 7:32:44 PM
I'm in Portsmouth, VA in a coastal downtown area that got nailed in the '09 nor'easter. I'm curious how this will compare. Will probably go for some walks tomorrow to keep an eye on the rising water levels throughout olde towne. Should be in a safe enough area that I won't have to evacuate, but if it rains continuously through Monday that might change things.
10/28/2012 12:14:44 AM
Do we need to worry about tdub not being available if a power outage occurs?
10/28/2012 12:30:49 AM
where is the tww server located?
10/28/2012 3:02:19 AM
TWW servers are located in the basement of the Alamo.
10/28/2012 8:17:33 AM
Power lines down in kill devil hills, Hwy 12 closed at Oregon Inlet. So far Wright Memorial Bridge is still open, may close if winds pick up. Ferries were overloaded yesterday so some people are stranded on Ocracoke. Roads washed out in Rodanthe... Again. Roads over washed in Hatteras at S curve. Roads over wash in Kitty Hawk, water under some houses.
10/28/2012 8:43:11 AM
^Second oceanfront house as you come into Rodanthe just fell into the water, and word is Frisco pier took a beating already. Jennettes Pier looks like its snowing from all the sea foam
10/28/2012 5:38:08 PM
Asphalt missing near S-curve and temporary bridge. Bonner bridge has a damaged railing, it wasn't clear from Dare County Emergency Management if this was related to the storm or an accident (not sure how the storm would damage a railing). ^Just saw the pictures. Really it was a matter of time for those, they weren't left with much protection after the last couple storms.
10/28/2012 6:20:30 PM
im wondering what mayor bloomberg was thinking saying no one needs to evacuate...they told people to evacuate for katrina and it was still the govt's fault so many people died.well looks like he changed it but last night he was like "this is no big deal"[Edited on October 28, 2012 at 6:31 PM. 10/28/2012 6:28:46 PM
^Bloomberg had to ensure the rich were given sufficient time to escape before alarming the masses.RIP NYC
10/28/2012 7:08:38 PM
i just think about the amount of people that could have gotten out in those 12 hours
10/28/2012 7:29:38 PM
Well he didn't. He's human filth. I thought everyone knew this by now. This is exactly the kind of street-sweeper/sympathy-getter event every mayor hopes for. Bums will die, ghettos will be razed, boutiques will be built and a lovely memorial service will be held. This storm will do in 24 hours what a decade of expensive gentrification couldn't.[Edited on October 28, 2012 at 7:37 PM. Reason : .]
10/28/2012 7:30:34 PM
The little bridge on Pea Island (built after Irene) has been "compromised"
10/28/2012 8:51:22 PM
I know the Currituck is fairly shallow to begin with, but its basically empty right now at the Wright Memorial Bridge. Get ready for some flooding and damage when it comes back.

10/29/2012 9:52:26 AM
it's crazy how much chaos this storm seems to be causing (or is it just hype?) when it's only a category 1.
10/29/2012 10:10:41 AM
Flooding will probably be an issue in some of the bigger northeast cities that aren't used to it and probably aren't planned for this much water but beyond that I don't see what the big deal is gonna be.
10/29/2012 10:12:42 AM
