lol I'd love to have separated platesbut for now that's what your butter knife is for (put it under the plate so the juices don't run around lol)[Edited on January 2, 2012 at 11:38 PM. Reason : ^and that is soooooo good!]
1/2/2012 11:38:12 PM
Sometimes the juices are supposed to run around, but that doesn't make it a casserole.
1/2/2012 11:39:15 PM
^^I hear ya.But I think you may just be weird about a few things.Cause there's no way you don't like soups, stews, curry dishes, noodle dishes, pasta dishes, pizza/calzone/stromboli/bruschetta, sushi rolls, stir frys, burritos/enchiladas/quesadillas, etc...plus the 50,000 casseroles in existence. If you really don't like those things, I would like to non-judgmentally recommend that you work with a therapist to get over your food mixing phobia...you're missing out on a whole world of flavor!
1/2/2012 11:41:43 PM
casserole reminds me of the word slacksso weird haha[Edited on January 2, 2012 at 11:42 PM. Reason : ^yeah just a few things]
1/2/2012 11:41:56 PM
I really want to see divababy eat a burger or sandwich now. Would be very entertaining.Bread first, then meat, then veggies?Or veggies, then meat, then bread?
1/2/2012 11:42:27 PM
just bun, burger, cheese [Edited on January 2, 2012 at 11:44 PM. Reason : layered does not equal mixed up]
1/2/2012 11:43:42 PM
I actually think I'd be healthier if I didn't mix my food up so much. You can add bacon/onions/cheese to just about anything. Bake it up for a tasty treat all day every day!

that's amazing....only in PA
1/2/2012 11:51:41 PM
^^^^ So how about soup, stew, gumbo, jambalaya, fried rice, salsa, chicken salad, or any of the other foods that are "mixed up"?
1/2/2012 11:56:56 PM
THOSE ARE NOT CASSEROLESahhhhhhh you don't get my whole mixed-up deal[Edited on January 2, 2012 at 11:59 PM. Reason : took me a long while to be ok with chicken salad and stuff like that...I'm still iffy sometimes]
1/2/2012 11:59:12 PM
Is it the higher viscosity?

1/3/2012 12:07:09 AM
I think its a mayo thingALSO what the fuck? Gumbo & Jambalaya are some of my favorite things and they were technically created by poor people putting together shit they had leftover in their fridge. Jambalaya is probably a casserole if you think about it, but it's not a fucking casserole okay[Edited on January 3, 2012 at 12:09 AM. Reason : e]
1/3/2012 12:07:22 AM
Gumbo and Jambalaya is gentrified poor people food
1/3/2012 12:12:42 AM
exactlyI come from poor people land in Louisiana I know about some gentrified foods haha

^^^^Yes bland slop consisting of multiple cans is OK... [Edited on January 3, 2012 at 12:15 AM. Reason : ]
1/3/2012 12:15:06 AM
You got me, you just described every known kind of casserole. They are all bland and unseasoned food made from canned meats and vegetables.
1/3/2012 12:17:58 AM
So you don't deny it?
1/3/2012 12:20:34 AM
Absolutely not. If you try to make a casserole with fresh ingredients the redneck police comes and gives you a fine.
1/3/2012 12:22:32 AM
Yeah even the word casserole is enough to make me want to It reminds me of bad pot luck events or church meals where everything is fucking mush but the edges are blackened and it's either over salted or bland as fuck. And made with about 50 cans of cream of ___.See Also, Sandra Lee.
1/3/2012 8:24:55 AM
AHA, you went to a crappy church.
1/3/2012 11:28:43 AM
There is no reason a casserole has to taste bad. Mine are always delicious and include things such as chicken tetrazzini, chicken pot pies, the best macaroni and cheese casserole in the world etc.And the "cream of" soups that are put in there are so the casserole doesn't fall apart.[Edited on January 3, 2012 at 11:33 AM. Another quick and easy meal is hot pot.Heat broth, add meat and veggies as you go. Works best if you have a camping stove you can use at your table. If you've never had it before, there's a Chinese place on Tryon Road that makes a good one.http://www.able-bar-grill.com/
1/3/2012 1:50:45 PM
why the fuck would I cook meals in my bundt pan?
1/3/2012 1:51:35 PM
aha
1/3/2012 1:52:34 PM
lol I guess it does kind of look like a bundt pan. Supposedly that design makes the broth heat up faster but no idea if that's actually true.
1/3/2012 2:01:49 PM
It allows more contact with the surface area of the pan.

tonights meal.Roast Chicken with Spring Vegetables.Ingredients 3 1/2 pounds skin-on, bone-in chicken quarters Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper 1 lemon, halved 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 1 pound fingerling or other small potatoes 2 bunches radishes 1 bunch scallions 1 bunch baby carrots 1/4 cup chopped fresh dill
1/4/2012 7:02:47 PM
I love making vegetables like that. I don't care for radishes though, I use onions instead.
1/4/2012 7:52:23 PM
^^Do you have cook time for that? Oven temp?
1/6/2012 11:21:53 AM
DirectionsPreheat the oven to 500 degrees F. Rinse the chicken and pat dry. Season with salt and pepper, then place skin-side up on a rimmed baking sheet. Squeeze 1/2 lemon over the chicken and drizzle with 1 tablespoon olive oil. Roast 15 minutes.Meanwhile, cut the potatoes and radishes in half and cut the scallions into thirds. Toss the potatoes, radishes, carrots and the remaining 2 tablespoons olive oil in a bowl; season with salt and pepper.Remove the chicken from the oven and scatter the vegetables around it. Continue to roast until the vegetables are tender and the chicken is golden and cooked through, about 20 more minutes. Squeeze the remaining 1/2 lemon over the chicken and vegetables. Top with the dill and season with salt.

thanks!! I'm going to make this tonight! can't wait!
1/6/2012 11:36:14 AM
If you like more color on your potatoes, you might want to put the veggies in sooner.
1/6/2012 11:57:47 AM

I would like to share that this thread helped me successfully shop online for my groceries tonight. I didn't get distracted by unsupervised children nor did I overwhelm myself with excessive judging....It was pretty awesome. I was also surprised to learn the range of price per ounce with chips versus crackers. Your cheaper chips, UTZ, is ranking down there around 35 cents/oz....all the way up to the high rollers- cape cod and lay's: 46-47 cents/oz. Crazy, huh? Then crackers are at around 10 cents/oz. I didn't know that....So, I learned a lot. Thanks, teedub.

Only casserole-esque recipe that I use on occasion is a Reuben Mac-n-Cheese.Other than that, I agree with DB. Casseroles weird me out.Also...burgers on the stovetop is pretty quick-cook. Speeds things along a bit if you have a lid to go over the pan too. Saute onions and/or mushrooms in the pan at the same time if it's big enough.
