Run around the white house yelling "I have a gun".

I'm going up there with one of my sisters again and my parents, May 17th to May 20th. My mom hasn't been since the mid-60s and my dad has never been.Last time I saw...Air and Space Museum on the national mallMuseum of American HistoryArlington National CemeteryVietnam MemorialLincoln MemorialWashington MemorialJefferson MemorialWWII MemorialAte at the Capitol City BreweryAte at 5 Guy's Burgers on M StreetMy parents will want to see all of that stuff which will take 2 days. The Capitol Building tours are full and we are going to go to the new wing of the Air and Space Museum before we leave on the 20th. What should we go see that I haven't already?

Skip 5 guys Portrait museum has either the only one of one of 2 da Vinci originals in the USArchives is pretty coolNewseum is okay. But they do charge admission. And the national zoo is fun (although its up the red line and its only really enjoyable when the pandas are out)
4/30/2013 9:58:41 PM
I finally went to Ben's Chili Bowl this past weekend (across the street from U St. metro on yellow/green line)it was good
4/30/2013 9:59:36 PM
Skip the eating at Capital City also. The food there is gross. Hell, 5 guys and potbellys are better.I don't see natural history museum on your list. That's a pretty popular spot.[Edited on April 30, 2013 at 10:04 PM. Reason : .]

Eat @Woodward Table
4/30/2013 10:05:34 PM
What a waste of time. Screw getting in and out of DC.
4/30/2013 10:24:07 PM
^^^Capital City Brewery on NY Street was good when I went. Are there any other micro breweries in DC?
4/30/2013 10:33:03 PM
I don't remember the beers at cap city being bad, just the food. But to answer your question, DC Brau, Port City, and Chocolate City are local brews. If you want to try a lot of different beers, head to RFD.[Edited on April 30, 2013 at 10:45 PM. Reason : .]

bens chilli bowl had some long ass line. it sucked.

If you're going to go to DC and eat a hamburger, you might as well go to Good Stuff on Pennsylvania Ave SE near the Capitol.[Edited on May 1, 2013 at 1:30 AM. Reason : Instead of 5 Guys]

after you've seen the sights, go to baltimoreway better as a town than dc
5/1/2013 1:53:20 AM
If you are eating on the mall there is a cool cafeteria in the basement of the American Indian museum, with a regional hodgepodge of Native American food.Twins Jazz or similar place on U St is something different to do.

vinylbandit's schtick is liking things that no one else would ever like.
5/2/2013 1:57:12 AM
I agree that Baltimore is a more interesting townI just think its poor form to drop the B'more on a DC thread
5/2/2013 2:10:19 AM
I'm just saying that instead of doing second-tier things in DC, hop on the train and check out B'more for a day, too.The American Visionary Art Museum is way cooler than the Bureau of Printing & Engraving, for instance (I've been to both).
5/2/2013 2:32:53 AM
Since you'll have a car highly recommend going down to Udvar Hazy
5/2/2013 7:59:04 AM
Walk around the tidal basin, then when you're done, jump in the Patomac for a nice cool evening swim. The river doesn't have a strong undercurrent or anything, it will be so relaxing!

5/2/2013 8:19:48 AM
That's gross, Meg
5/2/2013 8:29:43 AM
I feel like I missed the memo on things to do while living here.
5/2/2013 8:35:34 AM

aside from the murders, they have some of the lowest crime rates in the country
5/2/2013 8:58:36 AM
This thread is relevant to my interests. Except we know which touristy stuff we're gonna do--just need to know where to eat and drank.
5/2/2013 9:01:43 AM
Assuming you're not trying to be too fancy about it:The breakfast/lunch place in Eastern Market is pretty good if you like seafood. Also gives you a chance to check out Eastern Market. If you are a fan of cooking shows like Top Chef, you can go to Spike Mendleson's restaurants on Pennsylvania SE (Good Stuff and We, The Pizza -- they're next to one another).Ted's Bulletin on Barrack's Row is good for brunch and just general eats. People rave about their homemade pop tarts. For your drinking needs, H St is basically a better version of Fayetteville St.[Edited on May 2, 2013 at 11:39 AM. Reason : .]

don't go to H street - overpriced and sketchy. i hate that area.
5/2/2013 11:41:04 AM
Hah, last time I was on H street someone got shot about a block away from the restaurant where we were eating.Had a good time at H street country club though. Overall a good night. H street is just so.... Out of the way though
5/2/2013 11:46:39 AM
H street country club was overpriced and the food was not great.i used to live right near there, before it was "cool"it's still the ghetto
5/2/2013 11:49:39 AM
For a safe sterile time in DC for a day or two, just keep it south of Mass Ave and west of N.Capitol St. You'll be aight.
5/2/2013 12:09:26 PM
Thanks y'all between this, the old school thread and some PMs I definitely have my work cut out for me! Most helpful.
5/2/2013 12:38:14 PM
Oh cool! Some of the museums have extended hours on certain days during the summer! Now I won't have to rush quite as much.[Edited on May 3, 2013 at 1:33 AM. Reason : .]

Where is the room where they keep the motorcycle and all of the things that are left at the Vietnam Memorial Wall? I saw a show about the wall on tv the other night and people were looking at everything stored in a museum.
