this game is very addictive. you press control pad DOWN when aiming something to re-center. and I do it ALL the time. I don't even notice it though. So far, the desert is my favorite for its wicked cool layout, symbolism, and giant triforce symbol in the sunset.

I LOVE THIS GAME

11/22/2011 9:53:06 PM
yeah, since it came in it, i didn't take it out (the gold wiimote). i'll take it out and see if it improves
11/23/2011 8:17:39 AM
i've been putting in about an hour a night so far after work. really having fun, but i am getting frustrated sometimes with the combat. fighting the demon lord at the end of the skyview temple was a pain in the ass. It also took me forever to figure out how to get the eye sentrys to open...
11/23/2011 8:53:29 AM
Just started playing last night - got the sword, tunic, bird. Can I just say...I must not have paid attention to the flying lessons, but that bird is a huge pain in the ass. There's got to be a better way to increase alititude than what I was stuck doing.....If I have to do more flying later - anyone got some tips/tricks for gaining altitude whilst flying?
11/23/2011 11:40:28 AM
Flap the Wiimote. It will make the bird flap its wings and go up.I finished the second dungeon. The game is definitely getting better. I still have some problems with the motion controls, but not as much. I'm almost thinking I wish they were slightly less sensitive. Sometimes you have to quickly attack an enemy using a certain sword motion (down-slice, for instance), but the window is short enough that if I move too quickly to raise my sword it sometimes confuses that with an upper slash.
11/23/2011 12:10:16 PM
i'm 5.5 hours in and just finished the skyview temple. i have 8 heart containers....found 4 heart pieces. I'm going to do some side quests and find some gratitude crystals before going to eldin...skyview temple was fun... the boss (demon lord) wasn't too difficult.. thank God for hearts in pots around the room though..i almost died halfway through the temple b/c my wiimote batteries died, and when I switched batteries, the joystick must have been stuck in the "forward" position b/c i kept running straight into the skulltula. i had to pause, disconnect nunchuck, reconnect and then it was straightened out.
11/23/2011 12:24:33 PM
^^ flap like move it up and down really fast or off to the side as if it were a wing?... lol
11/23/2011 1:14:54 PM
Like a cleaver cutting a slab of meat. Raise it, and slash down (actually, much like a up->down slash). You should only need to do it once every 3 seconds or so until you hit the desired altitude.
11/23/2011 1:24:42 PM
i'm a little over 7 hours in... did some of the sidequests in skyloft...i have 28 gratitude crystals so far... bought all 3 extra wallets (hold an extra 300 rupees a piece)... got the medium wallet from batreaux (reminds me of the bat monster kid in LttP)i'm currently in eldin volcano making my way to that temple
11/23/2011 3:59:01 PM
The game gets awesome in the 3rd area.
11/23/2011 5:14:51 PM
just beat the earth temple in eldin volcano. this game keeps getting better and better. I LOVE IT.i especially like how the areas leading up to the temple are action packed as well. Unless you take a break and do things in skyloft, there really isn't a slow moment.
11/25/2011 1:11:27 PM
11/25/2011 3:20:21 PM
Holy shit. The third temple is all kinds of ridiculously awesome. Probably one of my favorite pieces of background music in a Zelda level EVER.
11/25/2011 4:41:01 PM
Got the bundle for 10 dollars off for Black Friday. They still have them at Wal-Mart.
11/25/2011 4:44:40 PM
^^I was ready to mute that shit ten minutes in
11/25/2011 7:04:56 PM
^ Yeah okay I guess it might present itself to be a little grating at first, but then when you do that.....thing, it becomes fucking awesome
11/26/2011 2:56:41 AM
lol just beat that monster at the bottom of the pit. It looked like something out of "Where the Wild Things Are" with those big goofy toes.
11/27/2011 12:39:23 AM
I am tooling around on the boat right now. Timeshift crystals are one of the coolest zelda things in a while
11/27/2011 12:18:36 PM
I'm in the desert on my way to the mining facility... awesome environment
11/27/2011 2:39:51 PM
I NEED THIS GAME
11/27/2011 4:14:50 PM
Took me a second to remember that the bridge from Twilight Princess that you joust on is the Bridge of Eldin... probably the same Eldin as in Eldin Volcano. That might come into play somewhere later in this game. Also, weren't the Faron Woods in Twilight Princess where you obtained the Master Sword?
11/27/2011 4:24:10 PM
^yep... same faron woods as far as i know. the ruins where you find the old lady reminded me of the place where you get the master sword in twilight princess.
11/27/2011 7:03:08 PM
I haven't seen any mention of the three trials.Din's Power trial has me all .[Edited on November 28, 2011 at 10:35 PM. Reason : ]

I just got to the Ancient Cistern and am about to fight the boss. Part of the fun of playing this game so early is that there aren't too many walkthroughs out there so you are pretty much forced to figure everything out yourself. It took me a solid half hour to find that extra small key when you go back to the the Skyview Temple.
11/29/2011 9:03:18 AM
I got this for my kid for Christmas so it's just sitting there on a shelf hidden away. Still in the plastic, beckoning... it's helping me develop discipline I guess.Anyway, what's the consensus here? I've heard mixed reviews on the controls, either they are great or it's the typical wii motion controls feel tacked on as a gimmick and I wish they just did normal controls crowd (which is correct 95% of the time). How does it stack up against the 3D zelda entries? For the record I liked OoT and TP. WW was boring because I absolutely hated all the sailing. Some sailing was ok, 25 hours of sailing because they decided to make you hunt down maps and then triforce pieces just to pad the game length - I'll never play it again.
11/29/2011 11:26:54 AM
Controls are awesome in my opinion. The swordfighting and use of shield works really well. There are a bunch of other things the motion controls are used for as well like flying your loftwing (giant bird), solving various puzzles, and using different items. It doesn't feel gimmicky to me at all. If all Wii games had controls like this, the Wii would be a lot more popular. If you liked OoT and TP you'll definitely like this one. I agree with you on WW... there was lots of fluff, sailing and filler. Flying from place to place doesn't take nearly as long as sailing did in WW and actually takes less time than riding the horse in OoT and TP. It's a lot more fun though since you have the third dimension and you can essentially jump off and skydive any time you want. Sometimes it's fun just to go find an island that is kind of close to another one and jump off the side and try and skydive over to the other one. I will hold off on making a final call until I've finished the game but I can definitely see how this can beat OoT or LttP as best Zelda game ever.
11/29/2011 2:28:28 PM
I do agree that the game gets better and better. I'm past 3 temples so far.As for the motion controls, I'm enjoying them much more that I now take better timing and can do the proper attacks, but I still think I enjoyed the TP controls more. It felt more like combat. This reminds me more of a game like Wario Ware where each fight is a little mini-game. Still fun in its own right, but lacking something more satisfying. I will say that SS boss fights are much more like OoT and therefore awesome. TP boss fights were all garbage.Oh, and is anyone actually using their shield? I broke my first wood shield trying to learn to properly block, but it didn't seem any more effective than dodge and strike. I bought another for the fire area, and then immediately lost it 5 minutes in where I miss-stepped into the fire. Don't even think it was equipped. Haven't bothered with a shield since.
11/29/2011 2:45:23 PM
Nice. Thanks for the info. Now I've just got to sit here with the game hidden away for the next month. Maybe another month on top of that before I'd be able to get my turn.
11/29/2011 2:48:14 PM
I use the shield for a number of things. Some enemies are very heavily armored or just got at blocking your attacks... the big fat red guys for example. If you repel his spear slash it will stun him for a few seconds and you can go to town. Also it really helps with the enemies that shoot things at you. As far as I know the only way to kill a deku scrub is to reflect it's thing back at you and the archer goblins are a pain at long distances.
11/29/2011 3:19:24 PM
The big red guys I've met so far have had shields that are destroyed in 2 hits (3 tops). After that, its basically a waggle fest of just thrashing the wiimote around trying to swing as many times as possible regardless of direction because they don't have any other protection. Without any defense at all, they typically will only hit you maybe 2 times, but their spear is relatively easy to jump aside. Maybe a different version of them is harder?I never thought about reflecting Deku Scrub rocks back at them. So silly of me. I just pull out my slingshot which effectively has infinite ammo and pop them once to stun them, followed by a sword to the face. For the goblin archers, I've usually gotten just out of range (or site) of them then fired the flying scarab. They run in terror when they see it. That gives me enough time to run up to their faces and waggle them to death.
11/29/2011 3:37:10 PM
Anyone on here experience that game breaking bug? Apparently it occurs fairly late game as well. The details of the cause haven't been pinned down yet and they might involve what some consider to be spoilers, so I'll leave those that want to find out about it to google.
11/29/2011 5:34:51 PM
i heard as long as you do the water and fire thing before the thunder thing, it won't happen....i don't think that spoils anything for those not wanting to know....
11/29/2011 5:58:44 PM
11/30/2011 11:02:40 PM
^Okami actually came out a few months before Twilight Princess. It was originally released on the PS2 and ported to the Wii later.
11/30/2011 11:38:04 PM
i just beat the Lanayru Mines... It was a fun dungeon, kind of tedious in spots, but fun... the gust bellow was getting old by the end...i'm glad it only had limited use in the boss battle
12/1/2011 5:48:52 AM
So shields wear out over time? Or is it like the other games where the wooden shield could burn but once you got a better shield there were no worries. It sounds really tedious to have to deal with finding a new shield every so often.
12/1/2011 7:17:19 AM
The shield won't fall apart if you thrust it right before the attack/object hits Link. I haven't lost a shield due to it falling apart except for one point when two archers pinned me down and before I knew it it was gone.
12/1/2011 9:17:41 AM
I haven't lost a shield yet... I make sure I have at least one revitalization potion on me whenever I go into a new area or dungeon. I usually use it at least once. On the topic of potions, do you guys actually use that many? The revitalization potion is the only one that really seems necessary to me. I usually don't have trouble finding a few hearts or a stool if I am low on health (every now and then I can snatch a fairy in a bottle too), and I've never encountered a time when I urgently low on stamina, need to stay underwater for excessive amounts of time, or need invincibility.
12/1/2011 10:05:32 AM
I equip a shield because it looks weird without one, but I really don't use it... I just dodge and maneuver around the enemy. I haven't used any potions yet... I always keep a fairy or 2 in a bottle in case I die, but just made it through the 3rd temple and haven't used a potion. That may change later when I do the boss challenge mode in an attempt to get the hyrulian shield... the only way you can get that shield is by beating 8 consecutive bosses in the boss challenge mode
12/1/2011 4:34:26 PM
not reading above because I want to avoid spoilers but I just feel like I would be enjoying this more with a normal controller
12/2/2011 5:15:58 PM
Sometimes when I see the blue butterflies in a dungeon I play the harp and a symbol appears on the wall that looks like the bird in the game's logo with a square drawn around it. Anyone know what that is?
12/2/2011 9:46:15 PM
^Long time Zelda fans recognize that as the crest of Hyrule. Do a skyward slash towards it and it will prompt you to draw something with your sword. I've gotten rupees and hearts out of it just by drawing stuff. One of those bouncy stone things told me that if I drew a triforce on it, a bunch of fairies would appear but all I can get out of them are hearts. What is the highest score you guys have gotten on Bamboo Isle? The most I've gotten is 31 but somewhere in the game I heard that the record is 43, so I assume you get something if you get higher than 43.
12/2/2011 10:06:02 PM
I got 36.
12/3/2011 1:41:54 AM
i got 32 on my first try with the normal sword. haven't been back yet after upgrading the sword which is supposed to make it so that you can score higher I guess.
12/3/2011 1:23:25 PM
About 8 hours in....in the middle of the desert part. Great so far...really love how easy it is to switch between items/weapons, totally seamless.
12/4/2011 4:29:34 AM
kinda want to get this, but i never really play video games anymore, and i hate the idea of spending an extra $20 on the motionplus thing on top of $50 for the game. i always got the newest zelda game around xmas time though
12/4/2011 11:52:46 AM
^yeah...i didn't have the motion plus either so i just went ahead and got the bundle that came with the gold wiimote that already has the motion plus inside
12/4/2011 1:12:21 PM
^ not really something i'd want to do, especially since this would be the last thing i'd ever buy for wii and would sell all my stuff after beating the game.
