I know this had been a mild winter and all (I'd really just call it an extended autumn) but I was looking at my power bill the other day and it blew my mind. The average daily temperature in January 2011 for my pay period was 35°F. The same period this year: 48°FA whooping 13°F difference! Damn this La Nina. Damn her to hell!
2/15/2012 10:17:45 AM
So you enjoy paying more for the power bill.
2/15/2012 10:34:17 AM
I don't mind paying a little more on my power bill for some wintery goodness like we've grown accustomed to the past few years.[Edited on February 15, 2012 at 10:39 AM. Reason : ]
2/15/2012 10:39:31 AM
haha, i wouldn't mind the slight increase in heating bills for the chance to wake up to a snowy blizzard and a chance to play hooky from work and stay in bed a couple days.
2/15/2012 11:42:44 AM
^&^^exactly^^^actually my power bill is unaffected as my central air relies on gas heat, not electricity. I mentioned my power bill because I can look up the historical monthly average temperatures. And yes my gas bill was considerably higher last winter, but only $20-30/per person per month since I have roommates.

If you yankees don't like La Niña winters here in NC you are perfectly welcome to take your carbetbagging butts back up north!
2/15/2012 2:49:09 PM
winter bypassed us this year...we are going from fall straight to spring
2/15/2012 3:07:20 PM
As long as we don't shift from Autumn 2.0 into Summer then we'll be set!
2/15/2012 3:21:35 PM
^^^man this winter has sucked so bad I wouldn't have been happy even if I was still in NYC. Also, Ffffffffffffffffffffff Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!
2/15/2012 3:53:33 PM
The current NWS forecast discussion says a period of winter weather seems "increasingly likely" for central NC sunday evening/night.It even says that some models are showing up to 3 inches!
2/17/2012 5:46:20 PM
for those who like to read more in depth about models and so forth: http://www.americanwx.com/bb/index.php/topic/32679-feb-18-19-2012-discoanalysis/page__st__1050
2/17/2012 6:43:09 PM
If we get 3 inches worth of snow, a half inch might stick.
2/17/2012 7:02:20 PM
I think it's going to be way too warm on the ground. But a cold rain earlier in the day would drop temps down significantly. I honestly am not holding out hope that anything is going to stick, but would absolutely love it. Mountains have a great chance of getting some accumulation, I'm hoping it will make it as far east as Mebane.
2/17/2012 10:28:22 PM
Remember weather?Me neither.
2/17/2012 10:49:15 PM
looking better with each run
2/18/2012 5:39:10 PM
^Can you post more info? Everything I'm *reading* is saying cold rain now . But I don't interpret models, so I don't know what you've seen!

Holy Cow! That's significantly changed since I checked that this morning. It was dusting to 1" in my area. Now it's 6-9". Thanks!
2/18/2012 5:50:13 PM
So what kind of snow totals are we looking at around the triangle in these new models? I can't view any of the models, etc on my iPad. Last I saw was up to 3" with little to no accumulation
2/18/2012 9:05:20 PM
That model^^ is putting the triangle in 1-3" to 3"-6" accumulation, depending on how far west you are.And this one puts me in 1"-3" and Wake County in the 1" section:[Edited on February 18, 2012 at 9:13 PM. Reason : ]
2/18/2012 9:07:36 PM
Shit, I don't have milk or bread for milk sammiches if it snows tomorrow
2/18/2012 9:50:47 PM
That looks like a wishcast to me.
2/18/2012 10:02:40 PM
2/19/2012 10:35:07 AM
i'm betting it'll be accumulations of 0-nothing.
2/19/2012 10:47:29 AM
Yeah, this is looking doubtful.
2/19/2012 2:47:28 PM
Snowing hard in Mebane. All dirt areas are white. Grass and rooftops are slowly turning white. Nothing sticking to the roads yet.
2/19/2012 4:49:58 PM
34.5 outside right now and sleeting like crazy here in Cary.
2/19/2012 8:01:39 PM
Sleeting hard off Blue Ridge Rd.
2/19/2012 8:09:10 PM
Raining hard off Ridge Road.
2/19/2012 8:15:47 PM
I would like to know how Wake/Durham/Orange County schools are already delayed, and Guilford County isn't even discussing it.
2/19/2012 8:31:16 PM
Sleet finally changing over to snow at Six Forks/Beltline
2/19/2012 8:40:42 PM
Down to freezing now with snow falling... Finally.
2/19/2012 8:50:49 PM
We have a nice dusting of snow so far in south Durham.
2/19/2012 9:00:02 PM
S harrison ave covered in cary
2/19/2012 9:01:30 PM
Now that the precip has changed to snow things are getting covered pretty quickly
2/19/2012 9:04:46 PM
Big wreck off 40 in Cary apparently. Heard Greensboro has switched to ice after 3 inches of snow.
2/19/2012 9:07:02 PM
How are the roads out there. I'm supposed to go to work in an hour.
2/19/2012 9:13:27 PM
slushy off athens drive.snow is def sticking and accumulating on the roadsif the temp drops below freezing, the roads are gonna get nasty
2/19/2012 9:17:27 PM
looks like we're about to run out of of precipitation based on the radar...hopefully more is on the way
2/19/2012 9:31:15 PM
Just enough snow to cover the roads here off of Falls of Neuse.
2/19/2012 9:32:35 PM
Ground is covered in SW Raleigh. Emergency services are flying by nonstop right now.
2/19/2012 9:58:23 PM
It's almost all down to slush now.
2/19/2012 10:28:57 PM
nothing here in RM. there was some sleet collecting in the planters on the front porch last night, but there's nothing on the ground or the roads.
2/20/2012 7:35:55 AM
Got about 2.5-3" here last night. Everything already melted off the driveway and roads. Greensboro apparently got more ice, but work is on anyways.
2/20/2012 7:46:14 AM
lol somebody reported to wral that we got .5" out here. wtf
2/20/2012 7:59:22 AM
Despite how little snow there was, the black ice was evidently serious business this morning. I passed two multi-vehicle wrecks on the way to work (one with fire that had closed the ramp from I-40 E to I-540 E, and one that had Wade Ave. westbound closed with traffic detoured onto the Edwards Mill exit) and there are quite a few more reported in the paper. I spotted a few slightly slick spots but didn't have any trouble with it personally.
2/20/2012 9:36:31 AM
Interesting. I had NO trouble getting to work from Mebane to Greensboro. The roads were practically bone dry. I did see the WRAL report about the huge fiery wreck this morning though. Crazy.
2/20/2012 9:38:08 AM
Wow. If I had nothing to go off of other than facebook status updates I would have thought it snowed a foot in the triangle. It was completely melted off the roads and more than halfway melted in all the grassy areas when I left the house at 6 this morning.^^Yeah, almost every bridge I drove on had black ice this morning. There was a head on collision on Capital where someone lost control after crossing a bridge, went through the median, then hit someone in the oncoming lane.[Edited on February 20, 2012 at 10:17 AM. I was on 440 at 5:30am, didn't notice anything. I suppose it's a good thing I didn't have to make any sudden maneuvers though
2/20/2012 10:18:17 AM
I saw about a dozen cars in ditches on the beltline around 9p last night. Holy fuck people, just don't slam the brakes or punch the gas and you'll be fine.
