Wake Med billing and other locals for the new son. Plus I'm having to talk to like 4 different parties (doctor, insurance, prescription drug card, pharmacist) to figure out why a prescription was denied.BCBS is a breeze compared to this.

As i get older, I care less about a lot of stuff. But little things still really grind my gears.I hate what seems to be a newer phenonenom where news media put silly quotes in their headlines. It's probably always happened, but seems to be a lot more common these days. For example, a headline on WRAL.com today:

I’m noticing more and more people go from the right lane, crossing thru the middle lane, and turning left just before a stoplight downtownI’ve almost been crashed into a handful of timespretty sure it’s peoples over reliance on GPS and turning hard left as soon as the GPS tells them to, without looking in their mirror

^I've noticed that few times recently, even where they're in the right lane that turns right, then cutting across the middle to make a left turn. Could it be they're just listening to the GPS and for which way is right and left??

^^I honestly think GPS is really screwing us up. We rely on it now to get to places we know, simply because it can help us avoid traffic.I’m afraid all this lack of memorizing simple things like addresses, phone numbers, directions, etc, is going to come back to haunt us down the road. As for your specific gear that you’re grinding, I think it’s part GPS, and part people have just stopped paying as much attention due to all the distractions in their cars. If they aren’t looking at their phone, they’re having to interface with a touchscreen in their car, or any other sort of distraction.

I only use it when I’m in a place I’ve never been, and even then I do my best to remember directions before I even get in the car I’ve always looked at it as something that’s healthy for my brain, haits also a point of pride for me to only need to go somewhere once to be able to always remember the way I got there. it’s a damn handy skill to have[Edited on December 18, 2024 at 1:28 PM. Oh it certainly has to be healthy. I just wonder if there is going to be a physiological correlation of something like lack of memorizing these small things when we’re younger, and dementia down the road.Sorry, I’m taking this thread down a different path, but I guess you could say this topic grinds my gears. Even things like cursive - I’m sure that goes a long way for developing our brains as youths, and they just don’t do it anymore.

For me, the gear grind is women who speak with an exaggerated Midwestern accent. Or a Southern accent. I think they're just speaking in the way they consider "normal", but it's horrible. This Midwestern lady at work has no idea how badly she annoys me just by speaking on the telephone. Go back to where you came from!

^can you post a clip of an annoying midwestern accent? more of a lol than a gear grind but media freaking out about stock market going down 10 days in a row when its still up 30% in 2024[Edited on December 19, 2024 at 6:41 AM. Reason : k]

It's basically Edie McClurg's rental car service desk character from Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, but in real life and all the time. The stock market didn't go down for 10 days in a row. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (30 stocks with a weird weighting formula) did. Mostly driven by UnitedHealth Group tanking after CEO murder and public reaction.
