God I wish Ron Paul had a chance in hell of being elected [Edited on September 8, 2011 at 12:23 PM. Reason : page 2 says ^]

He doesn't, but he's been hanging out around 10% for a few months now. He's third in most polls. That is already a triumph, considering he was under 1% before the May 2007 debate, when most politicos said he would drop out simply due to embarrassment from the supposed shellacking that Giuliani gave him.Four years later and he's third in most polls. And the front-runner by a wide margin lost his temper. It's been a good ride, and it isn't quite over. It's over as far as not winning, but there are a few more beehives he can poke and issues he can frame.

They are all hypocritical. They are career members of one of the major political parties. Here is the criteria they use to create their political platform:1. What do voters like right now, and how to I reshape my past deeds to reflect that?2. What is the opposite of what the other major party wants?Ron Paul is the only one who doesn't follow the party dogma to the letter. Unfortunately, he's completely out-of-touch with modern society in a "the internet is a series of tubes" kind of way. I don't think he has the mental acuity to be the President.

I have a surprise for you: you're involuntarily entered into hundreds of life-long government programs when you're born here. Most don't have an "opt-out".
9/9/2011 8:28:33 AM
What programs are those?
9/9/2011 10:00:28 AM
Selective Service, just in case they want to institute a draft. Oh, and the IRS.
9/9/2011 11:08:38 AM
If the second one requires an "Oh," then I'll assume there aren't really hundreds of them.
9/9/2011 11:19:43 AM
Through the IRS, your tax dollars are used to fund hundreds of programs.
9/9/2011 11:53:02 AM
just opt-out of life.

I guess I took "involuntarily entered" a little differently. I know I fund them involuntarily (unless I just don't work or spend in the legit economy), but that doesn't quite seem the same as entering them. I haven't "entered" a poker game if somebody takes my money to play in it.

You have if the outcome of the game affects your life, as all those government programs do. Invading Iraq may not have impacted you much directly, but it has altered your life, if only by making your Canadian friends ashamed of you.

If I had Canadian friends, I'd be ashamed of myself.
