fage 2% plain

Add your own fruit if you're concerned about sugar. I buy frozen blueberries and add in some of those the night before so I can take it to work the next day. Or I make overnight oats: 1/2c dry old fashioned oats + 1/2c 2% plain greek yogurt + 1/2c 2% milk + 1T chia seeds + 1 scoop protein powder (sometimes I add fruit too).

For dessert I mix chocolate protein powder and cocoa nibs in with it.

How can something that is centuries, indeed milliennia old, be called a "fad"? OK, so it is a "fad" in Western countries, but it is not going away anywhere, ever.

It is not called "Greek yogurt" in Greece or in other countries where it has been eaten for centuries. It is called "strained yogurt". North American manufacturers thought it would be good to called it something exotic, rather than the mundane "strained" yogurt, so they went with "Greek" yogurt.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strained_yogurt

Actually, since 2014, Chobani has been labeling its products "strained yogurt" in the UK because British courts were like "your yogurt is made in the US, so you can't call it Greek yogurt".

And really, you make it sound like it is something different from yogurt. It simply is yogurt -- yogurt from which some of the liquid portion has been strained out, leaving a thicker more concentrated product. So I don't see how that would make it suck, if you like the taste of regular yogurt. Actually, straining out the liquid makes it less sour, and for many people that is good because they don't like plain yogurt on its own as it is too sour for them. But then again, the vast majority of people don't even eat Greek yogurt plain. There are barely any plain yogurts sold in a typical grocery store... most are pumped full with ridiculous amounts of sugar and other additives, it is atrocious.

I actually love any plain yogurt on its own, as I like the tartness. Sure, I prefer it flavored or sweet, so I usually add fresh fruit and/or honey. Just fresh sliced banana makes plain yogurt awesome.

This is probably the best plain yogurt I have ever had:

Actually, that's second best to this supremely delicious yogurt I had in the UK:

my wife is turkish, and we use fage yogurt as a condiment in eating. a dollop of fage with rice and baked or grilled chicken, as a dipper for some turkish meals, etc. we probably go through a large container of fage every week, and that doesn't include the fruit cups we take to work.

all the us made stuff - chobani, danon, etc - are all shit

^ I literally eat yogurt everyday and try many brands, so yeah you mean major brand names sold in US stores are shit. I can think of several brands made in the US from pastured cow milk that are among of the best yogurts out there.

And another thing to note that NEVER get reduced fat or 0% fat yogurt, just eat less of the yogurt that has full fat content.

I even make my own yogurt and have a yogurt strainer.

Yeah aside from protein the fat is the other healthy part of yogurt. 0% fat yogurt is dumb. I do fage total with homemade gronola most mornings for breakfast.

It should read:

""all the popular us made stuff - chobani, danon, etc - are all shit""

There's plenty of good yogurt in the US. A few brands have been mentioned ITT>

^Yeah but it's a German company and from what I understand it's made in the same way.

Costco has FAGE total on sale for cheap. Picked up a couple yesterday.

^ What would the Germans know about making "Greek yogurt", or, what would be so special about them?!

Dude, it is a well-known fact that the appeal of Fage is that it is authentically Greek, and that's what it is!

It started in Greece 90 years ago, and only about 3 years ago moved its HQ to Luxembourg:

Quote :
"In October 2012, the company announced that it would be moving its headquarters out of Greece to Luxembourg. Reasons for the move include more favorable tax conditions, better access to bank funding, and a reduced exposure to the Greek financial crisis."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fage

It is still owned by the same Greek family that started it, and manufactures in a few different countries using the same methods.

I guess that more outlines the point that it doesn't matter where yogurt is made it's who makes it or what methods they use.
