8/3/2011 7:15:04 PM
their honey greek yogurt is amazing (the full fat stuff)
8/4/2011 10:09:58 AM
^ Oh you reminded me. I got their low-fat pomegranate yogurt once and it was GROSS. Didn't taste like pomegranate at all Just tried their frozen lasagna for lunch. It was good but too salty for me.
8/4/2011 12:36:51 PM
aww damn...another couple on twwpineapple chips do sound good though

This thread has inspired me to head to TJs after work.Aside from wine, what else to get....

Trader Joe's is a yuppie haven, not a hipster haven. Way too corporate for hipsters to enjoy.[Edited on August 4, 2011 at 4:46 PM. Reason : o]
8/4/2011 4:46:29 PM
It's really not that great. Whole foods is WORLDS better.
8/4/2011 4:48:11 PM
You can't really compare Trader Joe's and Whole Foods though. Whole Foods is full service hippie organic big ass supermarket. Trader Joe's is more of a random collection of tasty foods. I don't know how one could do all their supermarket shopping at Trader Joe's though I guess it's possible. But their produce section really blows.

I was in line behind a lady that had ~$200 (she said this was a small order) worth of groceries at TJ's the other day. She had driven all the way from Wilmington just to go there, and does so every 2 weeks. The cashier said a lot of people drive long distances like that to go there.
8/4/2011 5:15:10 PM
Everything else besides produce and sushi are pretty good and nonexpensivefew notes: microwaveable white cheddar mac and cheese DELICIOUSanything frozen - excellentedamame hummus - deliciousroasted corn salsa - fantastictwo buck chuck - very drinkablechocolate covered powerberries - would kill someone else in order to eat thesebeer selection - nice variety, I often build my own 6 pack

tempted to go check this place out this afternoon for some frozen stuffanything new that you people have had lately to add to the list ?
8/31/2011 11:51:58 AM
Pre-made brownie mix: AwesomeMini peanut butter cups: Awesome.Everything: Awesome. Well except their knock-off Oreos, actually. Don't like those.
8/31/2011 11:53:59 AM
would a normally-go-to-walmart-or-foodlion person find this place expensive, or similar?
8/31/2011 11:54:48 AM
similar
8/31/2011 11:59:09 AM
the frozen mac and cheese is the best. hands down.
8/31/2011 12:03:24 PM
^^^ They'd probably find it expensive, but it also depends on what they normally buy at those places (store brand vs name brand).[Edited on August 31, 2011 at 12:03 PM. Reason : a]

Yea I am interested in WTF is TJs. I just moved to Carrboro, so I went from a town with just a Food Lion to having the following choices:2 Food Lion's within a mileWeaver St. Market 1.4 milesHarris Teeters 1.6 milesFresh Market 3.8 miles Trader Joe's 6.4 milesWhole Foods 6.5 milesSO MANY CHOICES! Honestly don't know what places are known for good prices on certain items, quality, etc. We have not even been to Trader Joe's or Fresh Market yet.
8/31/2011 12:25:01 PM
i like their frozen meat & potatoes collection- good for a quick and tasty supper on busy days
8/31/2011 12:37:35 PM
Fresh Market is a complete waste of money imo.Weaver Street Market is cool.
8/31/2011 12:38:32 PM
I got their frozen buffalo wings and they were Their frozen spinach and artichoke dip is the bomb, as is the orange chicken. Most of their stuff is good. The pita bread molds in 3-4 days though.
8/31/2011 1:12:03 PM
Had some good corn and brussel sprouts from there the other day. Pest chicken was "meh"...but cheap as fuck, so I wasn't mad. The gf had some really good nectarines.
8/31/2011 2:02:31 PM
The quality of Trader Joe's frozen stuff is all over the map really. The Indian food and mac and cheese are A+++, but the garlic fries and now that brie and asparagus pasta, among other things, are awful. I always feel too bad to use the no-questions-asked refund policy though.
8/31/2011 2:15:57 PM
munchin on some of those mini peanut butter cups right now
8/31/2011 2:21:14 PM
^^ Naw son, use that shit. And tell them you're returning it because it's no bueno.I'm actually doing that at Whole Foods today
8/31/2011 2:22:36 PM
these "whoopee pies" are kinda blegh though(chocolate cake w/ frosting inside)
8/31/2011 2:25:52 PM
the chicken tikka, mac and cheese, and cookie dough are all excellent.
8/31/2011 2:29:52 PM
i thought they had something frozen like "white cheddar macaroni and cheese" but only saw the regular

8/31/2011 2:51:36 PM
Their breakfast bars are better and cheaper than Nurtigrain. Like 1.69/ box of 6. Apple is the best.Citrus Glazed chicken is good.I also enjoy the hummus pinwheel (scallioin garlic red pepper traditional) cause it keeps things interesting.Usually pick up some frozen fish that they don't have elsewhere (i.e. Red Snapper most of the year).Oh yeah, and Snap Pea Crisps are so addictive, but they seem to have been picked up by most supermarkets now.[Edited on August 31, 2011 at 3:26 PM. 8/31/2011 3:24:33 PM
Watch out for some of their unsulphured dried fruits...shit smells like old feet
8/31/2011 3:33:29 PM
had some of their pulled pork bbq (in the fresh foods section near the hummus)...outstandingthe crab stuffed flounder is awesomeTheir cheese section is freaking awesome as well, mainly because its easily 20-40% cheaper than going to a regular grocery for fancy cheeses
8/31/2011 6:44:42 PM
Everything molds/spoils quickly, but I'd rather be sensible about my shopping than ingest a bunch of man-made sh*t.
9/3/2011 12:51:46 AM
Agree about cheeses & lunchmeat - same stuff as HT/Whole Foods and much cheaperLOVE the chipotle hummusLiberte Cabernet is great for a $10 wine.Premade chicken & roasted veggie salad is excellent (180 calories if you don't use the dressing, suck it Wendy's!).I could go on...I do almost all of my shopping here, farmers market and Whole Foods. Do NOT go on Saturday or Sunday after 12.
9/3/2011 8:31:29 AM
i go there at least once a week to get their low carb flour tortillas.they are PERFECT size for snack sandwiches alsochocolate covered frozen bananas A++++++[Edited on September 3, 2011 at 8:37 AM. Reason : b]

Eating the frozen green papaya salad right now.The flavor is really good but making it at work is kind of a pain in the ass. It doesn't come in a microwave dish, you have to dump it all into a bowl. And then you have to babysit the hell out of it to make sure it doesn't overcook at all. I prefer things I can throw in the microwave and forget about until it's done I'd probably buy this again to make at home, since it's as good or better than what Thai restaurants offer around here, but won't bring it to work again.

Hummus is usually pretty good

The stevia powder in the big jar uses LACTOSE to give it more volume. I drink normal milk and have never had problems with dairy, but that stuff is dangerous. Definitely used their guarantee.
9/8/2011 12:16:55 PM
I thought all stevia powder was cut with something. At least it wasn't cut with deworming agents
9/8/2011 1:15:36 PM
I always get the frozen mango chunks. Addicting.
