God I just read all 4 pages of comments. Why did I just waste my time doing that
7/21/2011 8:00:18 PM
read some facebook page where, according to history, William Peace wanted the college to always be a ladies college or he wanted the land to be handed back over to his familyi wonder if he will haunt the grounds now
7/21/2011 8:46:51 PM
If he has any family still around maybe they'll make a claim for the land lol.

I'd be surprised if the difference would be enough to make up for the budget gaps. Why go to Peace for a degree in social work when you can go to UNC for less and have a more reputable name attached to the degree?I really do think advertising to international students would have been the smarter way to go. Women's colleges are still very popular in some countries and they had a largely untapped market there. International students usually pay more than domestic students as well, helping their bottom line.

this whole co-ed thing must be getting blown way out of proportion by just a few. ~150 years of history and they could only bring less than 100 ladies to their protest... Even WRAL helped them out saying it was hundreds...Unfortunately, instead of showing up to protest, Peace College needed their alum to open up their checkbooks to keep their tradition alive which they failed to do...

To help ease the transition, they should host an all-night lock-in, featuring pie and kielbasas with keynote speaker Caster Semenya..

I love Peace. And I loved my years there. But they stated, clearly in their email that WENT OUT BEFORE THE PRESS RELEASES that only 2% of college bound women want an all women education. 98% do not, add that with fiscal problems, a plateauing attendance and changes have to be made.I do feel secure in knowing that girls in North Carolina who do want that all women education will be able to have it, just not at my Alma Mater. So that gives me peace of mind. Also, as a member of the Peace College Chamber Singers (2001-2005) seeing them get rid of the music department for a emphasis on a new musical theatre major with new professors etc, has been really hard and sad for me. It's so easy just to blame the new president, but everything that happens is also decided by the Board of Trustees and with this latest decision they voted unanimously.

Mills College seems to be doing alright after doing an about face on going coed.http://www.mills.edu/news/2010/strike.php

The craziness girl I've ever known went to Peace College. She was so crazy that when she forgot where I lived I was incredibly relieved.

1. get out your husband's checkbook2. write a check to that day care for post-adolescent women that you call a college3. write something witty on the memo line like "better dead than coed"

My cousin graduated about 3 years ago from Peace and is very upset by it. Unlike a lot of the previously mentioned idiots that went there though, she worked hard and got out of there in 3 years, and then went on and got her Masters at a "real" school, NCSU. So at least one of her degrees is worth something. She and quite a few others hated Townsley after she let go some very loved and respected older professors and cut those degree programs. Apparently the President only thinks of the students as an afterthought, and they never find out about any of this shit until its on WRAL. They would really like to be informed about shit, but for whatever reason they don't get any communication from the administration at Peace. That is not going to be encouraging for anybody to want to go there, male or female.

six figure tuition?the what?
8/3/2011 10:01:49 AM
well over four years I mean... i shoulda been more clear (assuming the previously quoted figure was correct)
8/3/2011 10:03:32 AM
yeah I knew that's what you meant....still my mind is a lil blown by that figureI want my kids to have a great education and all, but the hell with that!
8/3/2011 10:07:37 AM
Yeah...my wife and I went there the other day to visit some folks and she also wanted to get a couple things from the bookstore while they still carry "Peace College" merchandise. Every person we talked to that day on campus is against the change and the way things are happening around there. (and we talked with students, employees, etc...)Everything about the new transition is shady. According to N&O article today:
8/3/2011 10:28:39 AM
^It's important to note the difference between the name change and the change to go coed. The two are only linked in the timing of the announcement. The name change reflects the university accreditation, submitting the name change in March is inline with intentions to create a graduate program. From my understanding, the Fall 2012 timeline is for becoming coed NOT the name change.
8/3/2011 10:41:56 AM
Can someone post a photo of the plastic banner they put up over the old sign?

8/3/2011 10:54:44 AM
It should read:1000 Hoes for every Bro

Minka, that's probably what they say and want it to look like but I don't buy it at all.The way this new administration has handled everything, I have no doubt that the name change strictly coincides with the choice to go co-ed...both of which they denied and denied for the longest time.Even all the news stories mention it as:
8/3/2011 11:06:50 AM
8/3/2011 11:17:33 AM
Seems like the students and alum didn't put up a fight for very long.
8/25/2011 3:54:12 PM
they have a large protest scheduled for september.. they wanted to wait until the students got back
8/25/2011 4:51:39 PM
8/25/2011 5:03:16 PM
Seems like if they really wanted to raise more money they'd just have a bake sale. Also, I've always wondered: What programs at colleges like Peace and Meredith justify their high tuition?
8/25/2011 5:13:57 PM
8/25/2011 5:36:42 PM
It was sad today when I drove past and saw a bunch of girls protesting in front of Peace. Even sadder were all of the misspellings and grammatical errors on their picket signs.Saddest of all was the lone guy protesting with them because he thought he might get laid.
