Has anyone listened to the This American Life spin-off podcast called Serial?Real compelling format, and format. That being said, if they don't come to a definitive conclusion somehow Imma be pisssssssssssed.[Edited on October 9, 2014 at 1:03 PM. Yeah I listened to the first episode and I'm skeptical they can keep this story interesting for however many episodes it takes. I'm also resisting Googling to find out if there's been any resolution. I started listening to Snap Judgment, which is really good.
10/9/2014 1:22:29 PM
I've started to listen to Serial. First two have been interesting, but I can see how this podcast could become trouble. After all, this isn't a final presentation, it's following a reporter doing their research, and we'll probably be exposed to various dead ends and red herrings. I find it interesting as a researcher, but I can see it confusing people who may not fully appreciate that premise. Also, it could be messy too if they don't handle sensitivities well, particularly when re-approaching the victim's family and friends. Seems like they're handling it well so far, but I can see it also being hell for those who are trying to move on.I've listened to the first two. Will probably stay on another two or three to see how it goes. Agreed that after a while, they may not be able to keep interest or come to a final, definitive conclusion which could be very unsatisfying.

I take back everything I said about Joe Rogan on page 1. One of his recent podcasts was with Thaddeus Russell and it was great. Also, fuck the Atheist Experience and the Skeptics' Guide to the Universe. My current podcasts are The Joe Rogan ExperienceThe Thinking AtheistThe Biggest Problem in the UniverseDan Carlin's Hardcore History, and also Common Sense.

Would recommend Solid Verbal and Shutdown Fullcast for football. The latter is much more funny but far less informative. Solid Verbal is much more informative and in the format of a sporta talk show. Both are done by some of the SBNation folks. I also really enjoy Skalrbro Country. Although, the County episodes are by far my favorite and I find the Country episodes less enjoyable.

Joey Diaz's The Church of What's Happening Now is a new add for me. That guy is hilarious. There was a periscope this morning of him taking down way too many edibles and then eat mushrooms on top of that before recording. Haven't had time to listen to that one yet.

Pretty much all my posts are plagiarized from DTFH or Psychedelic Salon. I've been making my rounds on Cave Comedy Radio shows. Roundtable is pretty dope. Is this age group too old for Last Podcast on the Left? Is this more of a Abe Lincoln's Top Hat type crew? [Edited on March 15, 2016 at 10:41 AM. Reason : ]

^^ thanks for the list, I am checking out You Are Not So Smart and Random Trek based on your recommendation (and I wanted to do the X-Men one, but I feel like it would be way over my head for most of it)I used to drive to DC for work twice a month, so I definitely would go through some podcasts during those trips. Now I am getting into podcasts for almost every time I am in the car for longer than 15 minutes (right now I only have a 5 minute drive to work).I am currently doing:- Stuff You Should Know- Star Talk (although I usually stick to Cosmic Queries since I get tired of the "Wow, can you believe that" type of comments from the interviews and I feel like the show doesn't spend enough time on the actual science)- Radiolab (sometimes I love, love, love these ones)- Ask Me Another (when I need a mental break to relax from the more attention needy podcasts)

FiveThirtyEight has a podcast out for the election now. I think it's just called FiveThirtyEight ElectionWashington Post has one out called "Presidential" .... each episode chronicles a presidency.

Two newer additions to my rotation:- Hillsdale Dialogues hosted by Hugh Hewitt. Some good discussions on American History.- Waking Up hosted by Sam Harris. If you're a Sam Harris fan, good recent episode with Jonathan Haidt.

I'm looking for more serialized audiodrama stuff, especially in the horror/thriller vein. Stuff I've enjoyed:Welcome to NightvaleWe're AliveLimetownStuff I've checked out but wasn't a huge fan of:The Black TapesTanisReturn HomeThe Black Tapes I managed to listen to the first whole season of, but it just sort of felt like something I was listening to because I'd yet to find anything better.
3/22/2016 9:29:19 AM
I gave up on those last three. I've been listening to Wolf 359 lately, and it's been pretty fun. It's a little hokey, but I like Doctor Who, so that's not so bad. What's been amazing lately has been The Truth. They make "movies for your ears," short stories enhanced with voice actors, sound effects, and scores. There have been some really, really good ones.

Money_Jones did you end up going to the DLM show at Goodnights? If so, curious how the Mark Wahlberg thing plays in person. I pretty much only download episodes now featuring him - can't remember the real name of the comic.
2/27/2017 11:21:25 AM
^Yeah I did go. I was so damn happy and surprised when he announced Wahlberg, he is definitely one of, if not the best regular guest on the podcast, and he is even better in person, 100% committed to the entire character. He wore this big shiny silver bracelet, would squat down into classic marky mark poses, and even actually does the one armed push-ups (sometimes while just listening I've wondered if he's actually doing them or just says it for the podcast listeners). I would love to be able to see one of his Wahlbeg Solution shows.

When do y'all have time to sit and listen to these podcasts?? Esp folks who listen to a lot of them

I used to have a mindless job sitting at a desk where I could listen all day, now I actually have to think at work so I only listen while I walk the dogs every day.
2/28/2017 7:17:11 AM
Same here, mindless jobs are great for podcasts. But now I usually only get to listen during travel for work and during the occasional jog/walk outside.
