How is the Jupiter Hotel to stay at?I might be canceling the hotel I have and staying there. They have a pretty sweet AAA discount. Some people on TripAdvisor said it can get pretty noisy if you are in one of the rooms that overlooks the bar. What about the rooms that face the Bamboo Courtyard?

dear god, go to voodoo donuts. they have a donuts with bacon, with captain crunch, with anything imaginable!also, interesting fact: most of the simpsons characters are based on street names in portland.visit deschutes brewery while youre there. theyre actually connected to raleigh because they have the old greenshields brewing equipment. i absolutely loved henry's too. i hope you enjoy porters and bourbon aged beers!
7/7/2011 9:35:49 PM
YES! VooDoo is definetly on our list!
7/8/2011 7:17:27 AM
I'm going for the first time in three weeks, please report back what you liked and don't like so I know what to do!
7/8/2011 8:48:42 AM
I changed our hotel again in PortlandI think this will be the 4th hotel I've reserved in Portland. Now we are staying at the Residence Inn Portland North Harbor. Its a little farther away from downtown but we'll have a car so it won't be so bad. For $53/night for a 1 bedroom suite w/ complimentary breakfast, I won't complain. I got a travel agent's discount on the hotel. We probably won't eat the free breakfast just b/c there are tons of places we want to try for breakfast. But we will probably just get coffee there
7/8/2011 8:54:44 AM
watching this MLS game on ESPN these cats love their soccer ... chanting sounds like some Euro game
7/10/2011 4:58:49 PM
I was planning on going to a Timber game while in Portland, do I need to worry about getting a ticket beforehand (are they hard to come by)?
7/12/2011 4:07:01 PM
on TV, it looked like it was packed, but i imagine people scalp outsidewouldnt think they would charge too muchthe game was vs. the Seattle team, so they might be rivals or something, being so close
7/12/2011 4:12:24 PM
Did you get an offer yet? I've been in contact with Nike as well but no communication these couple of days. Nike has been my dream co. to work for.
7/12/2011 5:02:35 PM
damn 4$ for egg and cheese bis
7/12/2011 5:32:43 PM
I live about 45 minutes south of portland in the woods! I'm not a huge fan of portland, but I am a huge fan of the wilderness that surrounds portland. You're within 2 hours in every direction of some of the most scenic areas in the country. As for the weather, its good from late june to the end of October (we're having a particularly wet year this year). If you want to rent a house/apt for a reasonable price, start looking now. Every 20 something in the NW wants to live in portland, and because of that, its nearly impossible to get a place to stay.
7/12/2011 5:42:23 PM
^^^no, I applied for the job a couple weeks agoI also replied to that nike talent scout that messaged me on LinkedIn, but she hasn't replied eitherI would probably want to live as close to the campus as possible (Beaverton), especially if I could just bike there every day]
7/12/2011 6:03:06 PM
What position is it for? I applied on their website about a month ago but the HR lady only emails me once a week at best.
7/12/2011 8:11:26 PM
materials research
7/12/2011 8:30:28 PM
The West Coast is basically an American version of the rest of the developed world while the rest of the country is CRAZYLAND
7/12/2011 9:11:21 PM
GL let me know how it goes
7/12/2011 10:18:51 PM
i see you're ISE ... what position are you shooting for?
7/13/2011 12:56:15 AM
It was an Industrial Engineering position, I guess them not responding for a good week and a half means no offer. But i would have loved to moved out to the West. Weather is not as hot/cold as some of the places in the east. Nike is where i kinda want to end up in my career so I'm gonna still continue to apply.
7/13/2011 8:52:56 AM
Got my ticket to sit with Timbers Army on July 26 for the game against Independiente. Let me know if you are going to the game, I'll be there by myself so I wouldn't mind having someone to cheer with!
7/15/2011 12:57:56 PM
I'm interested in University of Oregon for grad school, so this thread is proving useful.

fuckwads gave a debrief in chatterbox earlier that her trip to portland was "ok"
7/19/2011 5:35:37 PM
i can't believe no one has mentioned Powell's Used Books yet. I've been to Portland once (dated a girl that lives in Seattle and day-tripped it) and I liked it much better than Seattle. Clean city, cool people, liberal, educated, and these are all positives in my book. Also supposed to be a pretty good local music scene, and has stolen the coffee thing from Seattle.I have heard that you get used to the rain. I struggled with it, but would still rather live in the northwest than in the southeast with the heat and humidity. Good luck with the job.
7/19/2011 5:52:02 PM
I went to Powell's City of Books. That place was overwhelming! I found a few books. We were kind of pressed for time when we went there but I could see spending an entire day or two there just looking at their sections of books. We ate at this really cool conveyor belt sushi restaurant called Sushi Land. It was cheap and good. Husband and I were able to stuff ourselves with sushi and a bottle of sake for $17.00http://www.sushilandusa.com/
7/22/2011 12:12:13 PM
I wish I was there now- supposedly summer never came to the Pacific Northwest. I see their latest temps are 80s, and back down to 72. Sounds awesome right now.
7/22/2011 3:24:41 PM
Yeah for the entire week that I was in Seattle and Portland, the temperature never got above 72it was so nicePeople in Portland were bitching that it was "colder than usual". I told each of them how I was ok with it [Edited on July 22, 2011 at 3:26 PM. Reason : f]

8/8/2011 7:22:37 PM
Are people really upset that they have to pump their own gas?
1/4/2018 10:49:59 PM
nope, just the vocal minority. I'm looking forward to pumping my own gas next week -- those attendants were notoriously slow
1/4/2018 11:56:53 PM
My understanding is that the law is aimed to allow self-serve at any station in OR with the more sparsely populated counties going fully self-serve and stations in other more populated areas the option to keep attendants if they so wish.Couple coworkers in our OR facility were pretty happy at not having to wait to fill up - especially those that have lived outside OR and NJ
