Overeem just got released by Strikeforce/Zuffa. Interesting. Very, very interesting. They'll either let him go and he'll just compete in K-1, or and I hope this is the case, they'll sign him to a UFC deal and scrap the whole Strikeforce brand by the end of this year.

Strikeforce has to stay in tact til the end of the Showtime deal. I believe that is atleast another calendar year.

i had $150 on henderson last night at +255. huge. Cant believe henderson was that big of a dog i thought that fight was 50/50, even with the size disparity.

fuck fedor he's finished hes always been sloppy anyway

know his stubborness in refusing to learn jiujitsu and wrestling are biting him in the ass now that his bombs arent landing as often anymore

im not the biggest Hendo fan in the world, but that was a sweet reversal and finish, i loved it. that being said neither fighter gained anything in that fight i want to see king mo lawal destroy hendo if he stays in strikeforce

anyway onto the real fighter, Rashad Evans baby!

will he fuckin destroy tito, or will he dominate him to a decision? either way Rashad gettin that belt back from Judas Jones!

Dana White. I don't blame him for not wanting to deal with Golden Glory. They're far too similar to the way M-1 handles their fighters. I hope that Alistair Overeem ends up in the UFC though, would love to see him vs. Cain Velasquez.

i put $100 on tito at +330, obviously rashad is better but their last fight was pretty damn close.

+330 just seems like a ridiculously large line, particularly since Rashad hasn't fought in so long.

This fight card really doesn't have much appeal. I would have been down for the Bones v Rashad fight and even the Johnson v Rashad fight...but Tito? Nah. I hope Tito pulls out a stunner. Hard to pull for any fighter named "sugar" who twists his titties after he wins fights...what a douche.

Hahaha the first ever $70k bonus for "getting those horrifying shorts off tv as soon as possible."

That fight was clearly setup for the gay audience.

Shaved design body hair and a blonde guy wearing a thong?

Then they immediately go to the ground and roll around on each other hahaha the whole room was screaming in agony at my place during that fight even the women

I thought the public reaction was a little extreme until i saw that his nuts actually did pop out of the speedo

i didnt notice during the broadcast, i personally had a good laugh out of the stunt and thought it harmeless

its funny because i dont think anyone at champps noticed either, there was no reaction at the point where the balls came out (right when ebersole reversed hallman and got into his guard.)

i guess i was too busy enjoying the fight, it was a good fight with good grappling. I hope they dont cut hallman for that but that was a little out of line if the trunks were that short that his shifts were exposed. just punish him by making him fight a nate diaz or somethin at that level.

great card tonight.

I won already on herman's upset and volkmann but i lost on vemola's shitty ass.

I got CB dollaway and oliveira as well then a ton on Jim Miller and Dan Hardy.

Hate to bet against Cowboy, but i think he's out of his league tonight. Really looking forward to Miller and Henderson though.

so glad amir sadollah got his ass kicked
so glad dan hardy lost, glad lytle can ride off into retirement on a good note, sad to see him done but hes got other things to do so good for him.
im sad oliveira got finished in the first round, i like that kid but cerrone is looking like he means business
PUMPED for ben henderson, big congrats im a fan of his but i didnt think hed beat miller, i believe if ben doesnt get maynard/edgar the ufc is fucked up. If fucking clay gets the title shot im done with it LOL

also, RIP Shawn Tompkins, he was found dead in his hotel sunday morning. Used to train fighters at Xtreme Couture and had just switch to the Tapout gym

hahaha i didnt really see the cb dolloway fight, but i guess i caught the end he was getting pounded on against the cage, im guessing TKO, niiiiice!

im a volkman fan too, i didnt get to see his fight, but the dude has such great wrestling transitions and scrambling, it almost looks like youre watching a collegiate match when he fights. To hell with GSP, thats the kinda wrestling I like to see in MMA GSP aint go that kinda good shit

LOL you fell for the vemola hype

The Condit fight was fun, Hardy just got caught, and so was Lytle. But I thought Hardy has gotten stuck with the "I'm just going to stand and box" virus. He fought such a stupid fight against Lytle. Lytle came out and said let's give the fans a great match because he was retiring. Hardy said sure. Your goal as a professional fighter is to win, and if you entertain the fans while doing so, that's good for your future fights. But you can't go into a fight against a midcard guy that's retiring while yourself is on a three fight losing streak and completely throw away all parts of your game save boxing. If you have lost three in a row, you need a win, entertainment at that point is secondary. By round two, Hardy wasn't even kickboxing anymore, he was just boxing, which Lytle is very strong at.

Cro Cop by the way the wiki says has only lost his last two.

well that'd be stupid for them to completely give up a market to potentially another MMA group, but they're going there later this year, it's a show in Birmingham that will air on Spike headlined by Leben-Munoz.

Crocop beat Pat Barry but likely only because Pat Barry broke his foot during the fight..

Yeah the UFC does pander a little bit to markets. They always try to throw at least one Jap on a card even though they almost all suck.

They love Velasquez for bringing in the hispanic market which has predominately been boxing prior to.

You can't blame them, they're trying to make the sport big globally and they need local heroes to speed that up.

The competition in that division is weak as shit though.

Okami had no business being in the ring. Seriously, was that really the #1 contender?
Maia shouldn't have been given an opportunity to be in the ring.
Belfort is always dangerous but he is nowhere near the form he used to be.
Chael Sonnen surprised everyone and then got greedy and lost the fight because he's an idiot.
Forrest Griffin can't win fights anymore, even when he was in that division.

Silva needs to go up in weight or go down to fight St. Pierre. Until then, he'll keep picking off mediocre opponents or aging fighters.

MW is not weak at all.

any other division with the equivalent of A Silva would be considered weak, and hed have had 14 straight wins and 9 consecutive title defenses as wel,
just because yushin okami got his ass beat doesnt mean he was never even good

Maia has been doing his damn thing since the silva loss and that, in my opinion, is Silva's weakest challenger aside from the two fuckin duds lietes and cote, and cote was somewhat compelling of a match up its just we won the shot by winning TUF not by earning a shot, maia earned a shot and was a compelling match up. Fuckin hell dude went into that 5th round throwin bombs trying to kill silva at least

and Hendo didnt really earn a shot but you cant say he was weak comp and silva embarassed him

likewise, id say Fedor's legacy is the one that fuckin sucks in comparison. GSP is just not that guy.

i dont think jones would have anything for silva, hed see every strike coming and have three counters ready, i dont think jones would get an opportunity to tie up without eating strikes...and THEN if he does get silva down, jones leaves himself to open for submissions and he leaves a lot of space while striking for silva to get back to his feet

i dont even care to see him fight GSP, GSP would get embarassed and would wind up twitching on the canvas, plus silva is too old to cut to 170 and GSP scared ass aint gonna move up. Jones/Rashad/Shogun is much more compelling. Even rampage, heck id say after rampage loses to jones, you could actually use him as a soft tune up for silva to get ready for a permanent move to 205 and im dead serious about that. thats the very least in competition silva needs to fight at 205 that will be worth anyones investment.

basically, silva is unmatched

Are you serious? Okami is a fucking joke and has fought no one of real worth other than Nate Marquart in the last 3 years. He hasn't had a KO or submission since 2008.

His last 9 fights are:

Nov 2010 - Marquart - decision
Aug 2010 - Mark Munoz - split decision
Mar 2010 - Lucio Lenares - doctor stoppage
Oct 2009 - Chael Sonnen - loss (decision)
Dec 2008 - Dean Lister - decision
Mar 2008 - Evan Tanner - TKO
Oct 2007 - Jason McDonald - decision
Jun 2007 - Rich Franklin - loss
Apr 2007 - Mike Swick - decision

He doesn't finish fights against even mediocre opponents. He had no business being in the ring against Silva.

The only fighters worth half a shit in that division are Michael Bisping, Belfort, Wanderle Silva (who's best fights are behind him), Brian Stann, Damien Maia, Chris Leben, and maybe Nate Quarry. That division is full of untested fighters from TUF, aged fighters on their way out, or people that are average at best.

[Edited on August 30, 2011 at 3:00 PM. Reason : Silva is definitely unmatched in that division which is why he needs to move to another.]

[Edited on August 30, 2011 at 3:06 PM. Reason : or stay there if he never wants to be challenged]

finishing fights doesnt determine whether youre a good fighter or not, IMO

jon fitch must really suck.

i look at the skills shown in other fights, okami has crisp striking and good wrestling (which he didnt use on saturday) pretty good foot speed.

McDonald, Lister, Swick (whom he made look like a fool), and Munoz are no chumps and offer a wide variety of skill sets

certainly not marquardt, that list certainly doesnt make me feel that okami or the MW division is weak.

IMO brian stann aint there yet. I think Sonnen will show you that. keep in mind stann could barely keep mike meszzinio (sp) off him. id even pick munoz to beat him

lol at nate quarry, not only is he not very good at all hes not even in the UFC since he got starched by jorge rivera

i will agree with you that the middleweight division is full of "OGs" fa show, also guys that took the first thing smoking out of the 205lb division because they couldnt hang (stann) but theyre certainly not weak opponents

the skill level compared to Silva and other divisions is laughable.

that's my point and Okami's resume is not that of a top contender, in my opinion

Not to mention that Jake Shields beat Carlos Condit and Okami in the same night.

I'm sorry but I just don't feel that his talent level and fight experience are deserving of a #1 contender spot.

I was not aware that Quarry was out but I've watched several of his fights and the guy has good striking. Striking is not enough for the majority (not all) of the UFC which is why I said maybe. He also has a decent record at 18-4. Munoz, to me, definitely has the wrestling skills to be legit but lacks in other areas and hasn't really been tested yet as far as experience goes, other than the Maia fight. I agree he looks like he will be legit but I don't think he's there yet.

Being #1 contender is not about resume, it's about being the best guy on offer for the champion to fight next. If not Okami, who? He beat Marquardt for the right to fight Anderson so Marquardt was out of the equation. Sonnen was suspended for being an idiot. Good middleweights elsewhere like Shields moved down a weight division when coming to the UFC (I think Anderson would KO Shields in a minute). Guys like Franklin were told to move up a weight division because the UFC didn't want him destroying contenders after Anderson beat Franklin twice. This was a division that had to resort to hyping Vitor Belfort as a title contender for Anderson when all he accomplished in UFC recently prior to the title fight was KOing Franklin at 195 pounds (not even a middleweight contest) 17 months prior.

Middleweight in comparison to others is a generally horrible division. I think a lot of that is the presence of Anderson Silva. Once he retires you'll see contender-level guys come from light heavyweight and welterweight.

#1 contender status in a division is relative to the division's strength. You can't say Okami didn't deserve #1 contender status based on the fighters out there and the strength or lack thereof for UFC's middleweight division.

because to say otherwise would mean silva isnt going to fight anyone.

Hell just hold the belt fighting cans in non title fights like Pride

Okami was the best to offer silva, UFC most likely is unable to bring in a hector lombard or gegard mousasi or someone to fight him. theres no one that has built a btter case for silva than okami, plus he was supposed to have a shot two years ago before he got injured.

if theres a dude that really has no challengers its welterweight. I dont think Condit makes it to GSP/Diaz

and anyone can have a shitty night and we can look in hindsight back and say "o he didnt deserve it" but when someone overachieves (sonnen) then it was the greatest decision ever and he was truly deserving of getting the shot, even though he beat, as you refer to them, a weak marquardt and a weak okami, both by decision not finish after beign completely tooled by someone that silva totally eviscerated (maia)

you think Rashad Evans is a worse fighter than Ortiz, Sam Hogar or Kazihiro Nakamura, just because he got ass raped by machida while the other guys lost a relatively competitive decision to him?

Amongst the guys that have never fought Anderson, after Okami at middleweight you're down into the likes of Michael Bisping and Mark Munoz. Okami's better than both of them in my opinion.

I assume you attended this university and you can't tell the difference between these two statements?

In one, you're saying the division is weak. In the other, you're saying Okami shouldn't have been #1 contender based on his record which has nothing to deal with the strength of the division.

i will definitely say that i see nothing on the horizon in any division that would beat silva

thats why i say hes the greatest. he destroys title challengers, weak or not, like he is supposed to. guys like GSP cant seem to get a kimura right on a guy that gets beautifully subbed a few fights later, GSP can hop around and land 200 jabs but some so called lower level fighters come in and put the same guy away

anyways as a side question, Koscheck is moving up to middlweight, who do you think he fights and how do you think he does?

i think its a mistake to say the least

^^ who? and who was placed in position to be scheduled into a title match and it would be seen as reasonable by everyone based on the matchmaking?

here, I'll repeat my post for you on the other fighters near the top of the middleweight division:

If he could do that, he would literally be untouchable in the UFC history books.

Do you think Michael Bisping is better than Okami? I hate Bisping but I think he's a better fighter. He would still get drilled by Silva though so I guess it doesn't matter. I guess I'm just frustrated that the Middleweight division poses no real test to Silva which is why I have been arguing for him to move up.

Would love to see Sonnen smash up Stann and get a rematch with Silva. I would also love to see Bones vs. Silva. I think that match up is so much more appealing than an undersized GSP vs Silva.

In shocking news, Nick Diaz is an idiot.

Quote :
"GSP vs. Nick Diaz is off after Diaz missed three flights to get to today's UFC 137 press conference. Not kidding.

GSP vs. Carlos Condit is the new main event for October 29th in Las Vegas. Also not kidding.

More to come, obviously."

perhaps that's why he's just driving a Honda

Also, the inaugural Fox show on 11/12 for those that haven't heard will be Velasquez-dos Santos for the heavyweight title.

And Lesnar-Overeem on 12/30. And Fedor aims to get on the comeback trail on an 11/12 card in Moscow versus heavyweight journeyman Jeff Monson.

Man Brock doesn't ever take a soft fight does he, I was expecting him to be fed nog

Much respect to him, this fight needed to happen and one of the few times you won't hear me screaming "to soon"

Between this fight an jds Cain we have some showcase hwt fights, if they match schaub with the winner of Barry-Struve and maybe make big nog fight the winner of Kongo and mitrione the division will start being exciting again and a solid middle tier will develop
