I'm sure if you pour all that shit on it, it will become wet. Before saucing the meat is dry....and good bbq should not be that dry.
6/1/2011 1:11:07 PM
^^^negative. I've eaten there 5 times and have loved it every time. Shit's fantastic. My only complaint is that the portion sizes are a little small for my tastes but most people don't seem to think so.Clearly The Pit is the best BBQ in the triangle, based on awards and ruputation. I don't see the pitmaster from some place in Durham being invited to the big cities up north for BBQ festivals.

^^ thats because people in the north don't know what the fuck barbecue is you damn yankee

David's Dumpling doesn't hold up to Asian Grill on Falls of Neusetheir noodles are better and cheaperDavid's shu mai isn't all that impressive - kind of low on flavor and expensiveI invite you to compare it to the soup dumplings at Asian GrillI was at David's last week and the half soft shell crab was fried to a crisp (really overcooked) and sitting on a limp pile of wildly overdressed "seaweed salad" that seemed to be more wilted lettuce than anything elsethe dry noodles with pork and greens were dry, just as I expected - but what I didn't expect was that the 2-3 oz of pork that accompanied it was equally dry... not a balanced dish at allthe noodles were also not seasoned in any discernable wayso what I ended up with was half of a deep fried crunch pile on limp greens with a half bowl full of dry, plain noodles and some pork leather for $20

Falls of the Neuse? I thought you hated North Raleigh Also, I've never ordered any of the things you just mentioned.
6/1/2011 1:35:06 PM
just let it be known that any of you worthless fucks who claim western is better will be the first to fall when the cull occurs.

^^.

I eat at David's for lunch at least once a week and I've never experienced what you are talking about. I've had almost everything on the menu.Their lunch menu is $7.50 for a decently sized proportion of food. The only thing I didn't like was their curry dish.
6/1/2011 1:39:48 PM
Hey Snewf what kind of noodles/other stuff at Asian Grill do you recommend besides the soup dumplings
6/1/2011 1:40:33 PM
they serve the pork with the sauces on the side duh

So I wonder how The Pit will change now that Ed Mitchell is leaving to open his own place.
6/1/2011 1:50:17 PM
to the OP.The pit is, of course, better than smithfields. However, the price premium for the pit far exceeds the difference in the bbq.
6/1/2011 2:09:23 PM
6/1/2011 2:22:39 PM
Of course they're saying that but doesn't mean it's true
6/1/2011 2:25:21 PM
Greg Hatem has the best goddamn PR department in the restaurant world. That is the only reason that the Pit has national recognition. It's fine, but overpriced, and pales in comparison to what you could get at Mitchell's without having to sit amongst a flock of assholes.I'm excited to go to Ed's new barbecue joint, assuming I'll be paying for the pig and not some fancy-looking chairs.

That whole street is nothing but establishments for assholes.A block away, at Humble Pie, people are pretty cool.
6/1/2011 2:47:16 PM
the same exact crowd frequents both restaurants....
6/1/2011 2:49:28 PM
So people who have to wear ties or suits to work? It's been almost exclusively business people when I've gone to lunch there.
6/1/2011 2:49:58 PM
Yup
6/1/2011 2:51:07 PM
If wearing a tie makes you an asshole, then consider me Miles Davis

I didn't bother reading the thread because I know people hate The Pit for some reason. The Pit is better hands-down, but they're still very different. You don't go to the Pit for large-scale takeout or last-minute BBQ lovin' like you would Smithfields, and you don't go to Smithfields for high-quality BBQ and sides, you go there because it's cheap and easy and still tastes good. Et cetera. Both good. The Pit is better for quality. Smithfields is cheaper, certainly. TOO BAD THERE'S NO GODDAMN SMITHFIELDS IN SOUTHWEST RALEIGH.

You mean there are more hipsters at Humble Pie than suits?[Edited on June 1, 2011 at 3:11 PM. Reason : .]
6/1/2011 3:11:05 PM
I think the main reason I like the Pit is because they have great sides that don't taste like shit.Their baked beans are perhaps the most amazing baked beans ever viewed by man.Their chopped pork is really just average though, I hate to say.
6/1/2011 3:11:40 PM
I too like the bbq baked beans
6/1/2011 3:12:14 PM
There are rarely any hipsters at Humble Pie. Occasionally at the tiki bar.
