I haven't lived in Raleigh in years, yet I just read this entire thread.
5/29/2011 5:25:18 PM
And then there's the whole coal-fired oven thing. But you CAN do better than NYC pizza if you try.
5/29/2011 7:07:21 PM
The Special Agent Sands and the Spicy Turkey are both outstanding at The Remedy.

So I'm guessing the top 3 sub places around NCSU are:1 - Subconscious2 - Sadlacks3 - Jimmy Johns
5/31/2011 3:06:49 PM
does nybd make good subs? i know their everything else is premo.
5/31/2011 3:08:27 PM
Has anybody else noticed how stingy Jersey Mikes has become? The last two times i have been there they have only put two thin slices of meat on each half of the sub and they now only have like 6-8 toppings to put on it. I went to two locations and they were both like this.
5/31/2011 3:22:18 PM
penn station deserves more lovei guess the 2 locations are too far from campus for you people to mozy over to though

5/31/2011 3:39:25 PM
+1 for Sadlacks just because you'll occasionally see a bum fight there.
5/31/2011 3:42:41 PM
You goddamn southerners. Stick to your BBQ and leave the subs and hoagies to us up north.

I've got a groupon for sadlacks I need to use in the next week...whats their best sandwich? I normally get the 'big john' or whatever its called but i'm ready for a change
6/2/2011 9:56:58 AM
Get a "Shut Up And Eat It" then shut up and eat it.
6/2/2011 4:13:07 PM
thats a good idea...don't think i've ever tried one
6/2/2011 4:21:40 PM
I always get it and it's always awesome.Though I do love their chicken salad.

is Village Deli still any good? I used to love their sandwiches years ago.I will also always be partial to the size: quality ratio of a Jersey Mike's sub. I worked there on and off in high school, and ate so many free subs. It was amazing.[Edited on July 27, 2012 at 9:59 AM. Reason : .]

Has anyone tried Whichwich? Looks tasty...http://www.whichwich.com/
7/27/2012 10:00:08 AM
Damn that looks good blas where is it from?Which wich is good and cheap.... But not great.... Not even jersey mikes or jimmy johns good for that matter. I mean between trips to NYC (catz) and dean & deluca in Charlotte .... I just don't know of anyone that makes a great sandwich here with things like in house meats or fresh mozzarella (soft).[Edited on July 27, 2012 at 10:08 AM. Reason : .]
7/27/2012 10:03:26 AM
i also used to have the jersey mikes sub club stamp at my house, and i would stamp tons of those cards and give them to friends to use. ah high school glory days. when i could eat an entire large jersey mikes sub for lunch and dinner and not gain a pound of body fat.
7/27/2012 10:03:28 AM
^^^ I've been curious about them too. There's one next to my yoga class but it never seems very busy.[Edited on July 27, 2012 at 10:03 AM. Reason : a]

They're called grinders, bros
7/27/2012 10:04:40 AM
Whichwich is decent and cheap. It's weird but I've never been to Sub Conscious. What sub shop uses the most meat? It sucks to get a turkey sub that's mostly bread and lettuce but very little meat.
7/27/2012 10:05:05 AM
7/27/2012 10:06:06 AM
I've been to the NY Deli in Mission Valley. Quality ingredients, reasonably tasty...but not *that* good. Bread isn't that good either. I'd imagine Neomonde makes some decent sub rolls...
7/27/2012 10:07:39 AM
7/27/2012 10:26:01 AM
I really like Which Which. The customization options mean you can get it exactly how you want it. Bread isn't anything special though.
7/27/2012 10:32:24 AM
I second the which which suggestion, excellent montecristos.I also enjoy Jason's Deli in Crossroads and McCallisters in North Hills.

7/30/2012 9:57:20 PM
Has anyone been to Community Deli on Oberlin? Been thinking about going sometime. I know it's not exactly a sub sandwich shop, I think.
7/30/2012 11:36:56 PM
It's not a sub, technically, but McAllister's makes a surprisingly good muffelatta.
7/31/2012 12:33:54 AM
fuck mccalisters
7/31/2012 12:37:54 AM
7/31/2012 10:21:26 AM
not the best sub around by any stretch, but before we moved offices I went to the new Penn Station up in Morrisville a few times and was never disappointed
7/31/2012 10:26:39 AM
Morrisville deli and peppers sandwich shop. They are across the street from one another off of Morrisville-Carpenter rd and only a mile away from my house
7/31/2012 10:44:43 AM
best bang for your buck is at the Teet
7/31/2012 11:40:14 AM
I have never been wowed by harris teeter subs. they're just alright. i mean it's def a big sandwich but it's mehjersey mikes ftw[Edited on July 31, 2012 at 11:45 AM. Reason : ^^ I keep meaning to try that place I heard it's amazing]
7/31/2012 11:45:35 AM
I finally ate at Subconcious just over a month ago, and it was DELICIOUS.
7/31/2012 12:12:01 PM
Yes, Subconcious is great. Sadlacks is good. Village Deli is okay.
7/31/2012 12:16:17 PM
Morrisville Deli is banging. The Meat House makes great subs.
7/31/2012 1:36:49 PM
http://randobakery.com/ <--not raleigh Best sub bread ever! Soft yet tough, hard to describe the deliciousness. And yes, location is vital. Bread rises and tastes different when made in different locations. I've heard this company tried to open another location with no success on repeating their famous sub rolls.
7/31/2012 4:47:45 PM
^^^^,^^^What's good at Subconscious?
7/31/2012 5:25:20 PM
I had the American combo with regular fries. The bread was awesome, it was a substantial sandwich iirc, and the fries were perfectly fried.

My favorite part of this thread was GeniuSxBoY getting schooled for acting like a know it all.My least favorite part of this thread was every post by GeniuSxBoY, why don't you go start a sub shop that fails and then cry about it
8/1/2012 2:54:22 AM
set em upI personally think the best sandwich made in Raleigh is the one you make for yourself at home.
