Yeah, good job finding threads on the Wolf Web where people acted shitty. Maybe you can find me some sand on the beach next.

^I did have to try a few search terms to find threads women made (nothing relevant came up for panties or waxing). These were what I found. I didn't leave out anything I did find in Chit Chat - notice how the tampon thread was mild. I also didn't perform an exhaustive search to locate every female oriented thread ever made. The Lounge threads were pretty tame as well.

It wasn't to find people acting shitty on TWW, it was to substantiate this claim:

Quote :
"If you guys really think we would get serious answers only by the ladies in a thread meant for tampons specifically, or bikinis specifically, or hair color, underwear, vitamins, shaving/waxing advice, etc etc... you're on crack."

--

Here's an example of a tampon thread made in chit chat. Couple of guys dropping in with unecessary images and off topic comments, nothing too bad (imo at least). Granted this was back in 2008

message_topic.aspx?topic=535248

A more recent thread trying to find a hair place that is loaded with garbage

message_topic.aspx?topic=588203

and same with a thread about bras

message_topic.aspx?topic=579004

The last yearly bathing suit thread was 2008 and eventually taken over by guy suits(~)...can't imagine it wouldn't get hit pretty hard if it was made this year.

message_topic.aspx?topic=522983

Women I've talked to say that TWW can be fairly intimidating and brash. A female exclusive section could foster more activity...you could liken it to the appeal for "female only" hours at the gym. I haven't noticed if lurker girls post in the Shop thread, but we all know how easily it is for new female posters to get creeped out and scared off when that new "Attn" thread comes out for them.

I would be curious if a new section would get enough traffic/threads to warrant use, but then again Tech Talk seems pretty kicking lately.

The Lounge does historically seem to be the place of "quiet" female oriented threads, but posting in the Lounge seems to go against the light heartedness that would normally be seen in the Shop thread - in other words, it would be serious business only. What the hell do I know though.

As for the need of this thread:

Quote :
"and can i just say that this thread is super active for so late??

agreed and it makes me so happy!

just to catch up on topics going on:

1. my mother is a sociopath. i do not have a relationship with her and haven't in 5 years. all those with crazy mom's i feel you and those who have awesome mom's, i envy you. luckily for me, my boyfriend's mom is AWESOME and we have a great relationship.

2. NCSUWolfy the ring is GORGEOUS. i love fun bright colored rings.

3. G.O.D i love that dress! super fun color.
"

And in my opinion, threads based on

1 - results in trolling everyone for being a bad daughter
2 - results in trolling on unecessary jewelry and guys saying its ugly, overpriced, etc
3 - see 2

Thank you, Peter!

And you're right about girls being afraid to draw attention to themselves. One of my best friends (pretty sure you kinda mentioned her) would probably post in the shop thread if she wasn't afraid of how creepy people would act.

"Why not just a Lifestyle forum?"

You know, this is a really good idea and I think it's a fair suggestion.

A Lifestyle forum could contain things about fishing, cooking, home-decor, gender-specific talk, Q&A about Lounge-worthy topics that have more to do about Lifestyle (travel, home, sex, health, cooking), et cetera. It seems to make plenty of sense to me. There will be an argument this overlaps with The Lounge, and it does somewhat, but the Lounge is really more about serious non-political discussions, whereas I think Lifestyle could contain some threads that otherwise might end up in Lounge yet have a more light-hearted tone and content, such as the recent Cast Iron Cookware thread. That thread is a good example, because it relates to cookware and cooking, and is less of a serious discussion and more about users relating personal experience and taste (lifestyle, at least to me).

Lifestyle can be more topic-driven discussion than chit-chat but with more moderator presence, and with a tone closer to the Lounge. Some might want to place it closer to Entertainment, but our Entertainment forum has proven to be closer to a "media entertainment" forum than anything, not the classical interpretation of Entertainment to mean Lifestyle and Art (as it might in a periodical), et cetera.

I think it's a justified addition to the forums, moreso than "Girl's Talk" or "The Kitchen".

I guess you guys are making and bumping threads about female-oriented topics in some kind of attempt to make everybody uncomfortable enough to give you a room of your own or whatever.

Those of you participating: Isn't it more than a little silly that the most active you've been with the general population is in performing this display of how much you don't want to be a part of the general population?

[Edited on May 26, 2011 at 10:21 AM. Reason : It's not uncomfortable at all, by the way.]

Whats worse...their own efforts undermine their entire movement...

Its just a handful of people making threads/posting in threads. A handful of people isn't enough to warrant an entire section.

This is the shit we're talking about.

message_topic.aspx?topic=613432

And I agree that a fullfledged girl's only section would be over kill. A "Lifestyle" section for cooking, gender topics, health, fitness is in demand. The most active threads are the Beach Body, What did you do today to get into shape, Shop, and whatever cooking thread is in use.

Also note the male response to women venturing out of the shop thread, both in this thread and with response threads. Very welcoming to a female lurker, I'd say

I get laid regardless of my activity on TWW

I just feel I strongly agree with this cause. I've seen countless women scared off of or intimidated away from this site, and the last thing this place needs is to be solely a bunch of neck bearded nerds talking about how sharp a woman's knees are.

Diversifying the forum by adding an additional "Lifestyle" type of section would, in my opinion, open up traffic to the site. Its clear to see that fitness and fashion (given the recent dress and related threads) can be strong drivers to get people to log this site, especially if there are vast ways to communicate about something they like rather than subscribe to a jumbled mess of one thread.

Shit like dick threads and BubbleBobble posting sprees are what drive traffic away from this site.

My efforts here in Feedback Forum are to improve this website, not make misogenistic jokes and act like there isn't an opportunity for expansion.

It's more than just a handful of us. I know a lurker who would probably post if there was an area where the ladies weren't harassed and we could have separate threads for different topics. There are many different topics in the talk shop thread that have nothing to do with shopping, and I would be willing to bet some girls that actively post are still afraid to talk about things due to the fact the thread is in chit chat and would probably get made fun of. Or, for example, I remember once there was a discussion on bikini zones (shaving and what not), and I got a creepy PM from an active poster asking about my area It's shit like that we're trying to avoid. We just want a place where people WON'T be creepy, and won't mock us for being girls

I hear what youre trying to say
And I don't think a dedicated section is a terrible idea

I'm just saying the tactic employed here was poorly thought out.

Also, do not fool yourself into a false sense of security. If someone sees content they want to comment on located in an 'off limits' section, that discussion WILL be had in chit chat. I think the best option here is not to be so timid.

you're delusional if you think it would stop those kind of pm's unless the section is completely closed.

I'd be willing to pass out flyers near the Free Expression Tunnel at the beginning of the upcoming school year (if I'm still here) highlighting new updates to TWW with the Site 3 expansion.. and i know FOR DAMN SURE that if we advertise a women's section, we'll get tons of more female users. They might only start by posting there solely, but they will definitely venture into other sections, too.

Don't you guys want fresh meat to FDT?

You do a disservice to your cause by objectifying tour gender with the allure of tittyballs. In all honesty, it's much easier to get some titties IRL, or at least look at porn on the interwebs, than it is to get a TWWer to show her nips

You really think it's just women? The problem isn't the section they're posting in, the problem lies with the fact it's the fucking Internet and this is the forum culture.

You think a "lifestyle" section is going to keep creepy guys from PMing girls and running them away?

What it looks like to me is a the women want a section of TWW for their own Chit Chat, and really, I think that's stupid and redundant. Restricting users from a section is a sure fire way of making sure the section gets no traffic.

Look at "Old School." Most of the users here qualify for "Old School," yet how many posts are in it? Look at Premium Palace, many users here pay for Premium, yet almost nobody posts in it?

A lifestyle section is nothing more than "The Lounge" with a different name.

You want to cite the mindless trolling and epic creepiness in CC. Fine. Fair enough. There are some major creepos in there. BUT LOOK AT THE FUCKING SECTION! That section is FOR being a creepo, for being an asshole, for screwing around, for posting gay sex in an effort for making other people sick!

Stop blaming the users and blame the thread creator. If you want bullshit, trolling, asshattery, screwing around, creepiness, then post in CC. If you don't want it, then post in "The Lounge." It's not like the "Lounge" is serious business, it's just more serious than CC.

I never understood why the "Ladies Let's Talk Shop" thread was in CC to begin with. You all bitch and moan about guys going in there and being creeps, yet one of you idiots put it in CC. Just move the thread to The Lounge and be done with it.

As for guys being creepy and PMing you girls, get over it. I personally don't do that shit, but if you're going to post without thinking, then just deal with the consequences.

Figure I should post what I put in the cc thread in here

I know there's not more lady posters than men, but here's my thought...it may encourage new female users (which means new users period which I know is a goal) if they felt they had a place to go aside from what already exists to cater to peoples' interests

But don't frickin' call it the kitchen

Nobody is forcing you guys to stay in one thread or to keep it in one section of the forum... You're acting like qntmfred was like "NO, LADIES STAY IN THAT THREAD AND KEEP THAT SHIT HERE!"

I don't see why someone can't make threads about women's dresses, wedding dresses, clothes in general, your hair cuts, ect in "The Lounge." That is certainly "Lounge" worthy discussion.

If you're not willing to take topics that frequently pop up in the shop thread and make new threads out of them in "The Lounge" or "Chit Chat," what makes you think your own section will be used? Because a few women who will stay in that section said the only way they will participate is if it's in their own section? I'm sorry, that seems like a lot of bullshit. What's keeping them from participating in "The Lounge" or the "Study Hall?" If it's men sending creepy PMs, a new section isn't going to fix that. If anything, it will make it easier for the creepos to find their "bait." If you feel that they need to get acclimated to TWW, well, nothing is stopping them from starting in "The Lounge." And if the people in Chit Chat run them off, then there's no hope for them to actually "fit in" and "adjust."

You're calling for a change. Instead of pointing fingers and calling for everyone else to change, how about you guys actually try changing? How about you guys make threads in "The Lounge" regarding common topics of discussion in your shop thread.

Your little stunt yesterday, if anything, really hurt your case IMO. It just showed that you guys are just as bad as the men you're accusing of "chasing people off..."
