Picked up REM's Reckoning reissue today new for a cool 8 bucks from my super secret special sale-y place. That act in itself was awesome and worth mentioning on this here thread.
5/29/2011 12:12:53 AM
pssh, we've got a real one tagged at eight bucks
5/30/2011 2:16:58 AM
As it turns out, I already had that record. Had no idea. Whoops.
5/30/2011 11:32:50 PM
i hate when that happensonly time it ever worked out was when i realized i had two copies of beauty and the beatbut one is the blue w/ tan accents and the other is tan w/blue
5/31/2011 6:06:46 AM
If anybody wants to open a record store, I will BE your Jack Black character.
6/8/2011 11:21:16 PM
Anybody looking to buy records needs to get up to Lunchbox in Charlotte fucking immediately. Dude just marked down an asston full of new records and already has the most baller prices in the state that I've seen. Please do yourself the favor. I scored some just phenomenal things for cheap.
6/11/2011 1:43:22 PM
i'll drive to chapel hill for recordsbut charlotte is a bit of a stretchalso, we just put out the entire ramones catalog on vinyl at raleigh nice price
6/11/2011 1:51:15 PM
^^ it's true. the selection and prices are amazing. last weekend, i got the antlers 'hospice' lp for $14.99 and the fresh and onlys 'play it strange' lp for $12.99. what did you pick up?^ charlotte is just over an hour from columbia, sc (where i now live), so it's worth the drive for lunchbox records and heroes aren't hard to find (amazing comic store)
6/11/2011 2:21:41 PM
^^ haha was in there today and saw that. and some eclectic beatles records.<3 nice price
6/11/2011 3:22:49 PM
there is nothing in the world worth driving to Charlotte for.well, unless you were going there to burn it to the ground.
6/11/2011 3:27:51 PM
Wow. Really? Wow. I got some stuff for the better half - a Crooked Fingers album, New Order's Movement (which I actually don't own, but she's way more into them), a Glass Candy album. For myself I got 2 Fiery Furnaces records and a the Jam album, oh and LCD Soundsystem's first album. Their was some other stuff I wanted, but decided to wait on; namely a John Cale record and a Daniel Johnston comp. Their entire Rosebuds catalogue was marked down, and literally tons of other shit that I can't remember. If you're in the area, I'd take advantage of this immediately. The dude is a straight-up honest businessman...
6/11/2011 3:37:03 PM
lunchbox is awesome. scott gets lots of lower run shit that nobody else in nc bothers to order. great used section. good literature. solid fucking store top to bottom. probably the most well-rounded rock-n-roll-leaning shop in the state. motherfucker knows his jazz, too.
6/11/2011 3:43:55 PM
^^ damn, they had the first two rosebuds lps? I shoulda scooped those up.
6/11/2011 7:22:41 PM
I don't think they had the first one, but they had three others than the new one, which were all marked down. And yeah, I wouldn't have made a special trip from this area to go up there to get markdown stuff, but it's well worth it if you're already there...
6/13/2011 11:27:52 AM
We can't take all this stuff with us. vinylbandit, give me 15 for that Rosebuds record or offer something in trade. It's new; haven't spun it yet. Just figurin you'd enjoy it more than I. Let me know.
6/13/2011 11:20:04 PM
Went to third man records in nashville last week the day before bonnaroo. jack white walked by me in this little hallway with a bunch of plaques for white stripes record sales. it was nuts. i also saw jack lawrence from the raconteurs/dead weather/whatever other bands as i was leaving. he drives a VW golf
6/14/2011 12:21:12 PM
picked up my dad's old Technics SL-1600 the other weekend, in great condition other than the stylus being broken, which I'll of course have to replace - it's direct drive, fwiwsome searching around finds cartridges in the $150 range popping up a lot (the AT440MLa, for example) - being new to the game I didn't really plan to spend quite that much, but don't want to get stuck with a p.o.s. and have to upgrade a year down the road, eitheram I gonna immediately regret something in, say, the $80 range?[Edited on June 25, 2011 at 11:13 PM. Reason : mostly rock, pop]
6/25/2011 11:10:32 PM
nah, you'll be finethe atp-2, for example, is a perfectly fine cart and can be snagged for around $80
6/26/2011 4:09:48 AM
how do you guys store your records? got mine in a few milk crates now, but seriously running out of room, and i'd love to have some shelving or something
6/26/2011 10:23:27 AM
easiest solution is ikea expedit
6/26/2011 12:13:45 PM
some guy sold in a bunch of Original Master Recording high mobile fidelity records to us for super cheap yesterdayit is ridiculous how much people buy these things for
6/26/2011 12:16:41 PM
one of our regulars sent an email oncea guy had paid some insane amount (i think like almost a thousand bucks) for a sealed mobile fidelity recordit was JOURNEYi found out later it's one the rarest of the mobile fidelity since it was never officially released, but still ]
6/26/2011 12:21:03 PM
there's a sealed mobile fidelity copy of Toto IV in hereto ebay we go
6/26/2011 12:24:14 PM
If you're into collector records and especially that new Bon Iver record, Urban Outfitters has exclusive red vinyl copies, fyi.ALSO I thought I'd share the love in saying they mark records down. Today I got that 13th Floor Elevators record in mono for 9.99 and the new PJ Harvey record. I talked noise about her, but I like her new album, and it's easily worth 9.99. Anyway, check it out. There were plenty of others marked down that I already had or wasn't interested in...
6/26/2011 5:21:26 PM
Also, I'm gonna second what vinylbandit said about the cartridge and shelving. Yes to both. You don't ned to waste 180 or whatever you said on a cartridge. There are plenty that will sound great under 100 bucks. And the Expedit is the cheapest thing you're going to find that also looks great to store records on. I hate that they don't come with backs, since mine is against a brick wall, but thats my only complaint. If you can't get up to Charlotte to IKEA anytime soon, Office Depots sell this thing that is basically identical.
6/26/2011 5:34:59 PM
i'll drive to durham for $10 reissues
6/26/2011 5:35:25 PM
Is there not an Urby Outty in Raleigh? Hmmm...Also, I'm at the one in Charlotte, but I'm assuming Southpoints has the same stuff...
6/26/2011 5:50:30 PM
just southpoint
6/26/2011 6:52:04 PM
yeah, I figured most of those forums and such were populated with hardcore audiophiles, which I am notfound a Shure m97xe on Amazon for $55, and people seem to like it, so I'll probably just go with that and a $20 preampthanks both[Edited on June 26, 2011 at 7:55 PM. Reason : ^^^^]
6/26/2011 7:55:45 PM
yeah, that'll work just fineyou can get a grado black or green too, they're nice enough and cheapunless you're doing a lot of DJing (needing a lot of vibration damping/groove-hugging and backcue) or you want to listen to some very valuable records (lowest possible tracking force), you'll never need a fancy cartridge
6/26/2011 8:00:08 PM
expedit it is, thanks for the suggestions.
6/27/2011 9:47:14 AM
I have a 100 or so old 80's/90's dance albums for sale, some remixes, original Thriller and Madonna's eponymous album. Most already have BPM labeled. Looking to get rid of them all at once, make me an offer.
6/27/2011 1:27:38 PM
send me a list
6/27/2011 1:45:11 PM
Insound has a sale right now on some decent stuff; among it was this Rega RP1 turntable:http://www.insound.com/RP1-Turntable-Cool-Grey-TURNTABLE-Rega/P/INS94393/That is a VERY good price for that table. If anybody is looking to upgrade to an audiophile table, I would recommend this. I have something similar. It's manual all around, meaning you have to adjust speeds by manipulating the belt and it doesn't have an auto return function, but it's otherwise an exceptional-sounding table and a good brand. Check it out if you're in the market.
6/28/2011 9:25:53 AM
UPDATE: the Urby Outty at Southpoint doesn't have anything relevant, bb. But their website has awesome prices on the following albums:Destroyer - KaputtWarpaint - the FoolPandy Bear - TomboyPJ Harvey - Let England ShakePixies - Surfer RosaBest Coast - Crazy for You
6/28/2011 9:41:28 PM

7/22/2011 12:11:05 PM
7/25/2011 12:10:57 PM
Hell yeah, got this for $15. The original mono LP is like $65 on EBay, so the reissue will do.
7/26/2011 10:25:50 AM
http://www.fatpossum.comall records 10 bucks right now.
8/2/2011 11:17:04 PM
^ thought this would be a good opportunity to finally pick up smith westerns and yuck, then i realized there's like 3 or 4 other records i'd want to get, too. dammit.
8/3/2011 9:31:12 AM
Honestly, I think you're gonna regret picking up Smith Westerns in l'd say less than a year. It gets old tremendously fast.
8/3/2011 9:58:24 AM
Don't be shy, guys. Schoolkids Sale:
8/4/2011 11:59:36 AM
8/4/2011 12:41:35 PM
We'll see what happens. I want to get in on that raffle and see what all's on sale, but it's kind of a drive...
8/4/2011 2:05:27 PM
8/4/2011 2:07:28 PM
^^ Almost everything someone would want is at least 10% off, and there are chunks of cool things that are 20 and 50% off. I grabbed a couple things I like but wouldn't normally get because of the regular price, which I suppose is the point.Example: Sonic Youth "The Eternal" 2LP. I really like that record a lot, but it's a full-cover tipover gatefold on 180 with custom inner sleeves, and as such was something like $37 new. Marked down to $30 and then 50% off, it becomes a great deal. ]
8/5/2011 11:59:43 AM
Their sale caught be at a bad time to spend money. I really wanted to check it out, but I gotta be an adult and all that garbage.
