The real question here:

Old Amy Pond. Would you hit it?

Only if she kept the sword on her.

Where the hell did she get the sword anyway? Seems like an odd thing to keep in a medical facility.

I was waiting for Young-Pond to look at Old-Pond and say "Wow, I age AWESOME!"

I'd hit it.

Also wasn't as impressed with the last episode though. It had kind of been done before with Rory and the episodes before seemed much fresher with crazy revelations that were absent in this one (did anyone not see The Doctor locking old Amy out of the TARDIS?). Still, I'm interested to see how this season ends...

At this point I'm just enjoying the episodes for what they are, although I'm mildly curious about where Moffet decides to mine for his handwavium in order to kill The Doctor and not kill The Doctor.

Doctor Ganger, temporary paradox (since the TARDIS can now apparently hold one together for about ten minutes without major reconstruction, and he could use the 2 rivers facility to advance his age and guarantee death of the paradox duplicate since he'd have that disease), or hey they could bring back The Valeyard to die for him (we're around the right regeneration for that after all).

I like this season, it's shown a significantly more mature/broken Doctor than before.

Was the fact that his door was the eleventh door and he's the eleventh doctor a coincidence? Nah, but I wonder what he saw behind it...

I gotta say I really liked the God complex. The preview for next weeks looks exciting too. The Lodger was my second fav episode last season.

Green Jay, why? Amy and Rory rank among my fav companions. They only suck when River gets involved.

They aren't gone for good. Id wager they'll be back for the series finale (there've been a string of companion light episodes before the finale in the last few series).

Plus Gillan said she'll be back periodically for series 7. Dunno if that's the case or not but I
like the idea of keeping Amy and Rory around on an "as needed" basis.

/ Although Rory seems to be on a collision course with death. He hasn't died in a long time and in God Complex he's the only one NOT at risk of dying, surely Moffit can't let that stand.

^ yah that's my bet that they will show up for the finale.

And after some thought, I would welcome them ditching Rory and Amy for a while. It would be nice to get some new companion blood to spill.

In the RTD years they didn't keep a companion for more than 2 seasons so I'd be suprised if they kept the Ponds for a third.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone else feel like we've seen this string of episodes before? The Doctor gives up on traveling with people, gets disillusioned, and then marches towards a death he knows is coming.

It just seems far too much like the The Next Doctor/Waters of Mars/End of Time arc all over again.

I mean, right down to becoming afraid of how he screws up his companions.

EXACTLY what I was thinking!!!!

only 1 person in the universe likes this season??? also EXACTLY what I was thinking!!!

j/k. From my experience, there ARE plenty of people that *love* this season. Of course, they are also people that *love* River Song. Which I think sums it up. If you love River Song, this is probably TV gold for you. Otherwise, 2/3rds of the episodes this season left you flat. Personally, I was very open to the idea of a love story between two people meeting out of order. But this season has felt like they were trying to rush it. Like they didn't have time to really develop the romance between the Doctor and River so they've had to squeeze it into only 1 or 2 episodes.

Anyways. What do YOU actually like about this season?

Christmas Carol - hated it, thought it was boring

The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon - I really thought it was a great opener. Really liked the idea of the Silence. Yes I know the complaints of 'oh no the Doctor died again when we all know he'll be saved'. I never understood that because you know in every practically every other episode of any of other series if the protagonist is in danger, he'll always find a way to survive. To me, it's not about the Doctor dying, it's about him just becoming so broken down and weary of his travels.

Curse of Black Spot - Decent episode, nothing too standoutish though

Doctor's Wife - Best episode of the season

Rebel Flesh/Almost People - Good episode, like the interaction between the Doctors.

Good Man Goes to War - A good midseason finale. I liked seeing all the friends of the Doctor come back. Even though I saw it coming, I liked the twist at the end.

Let's Kill Hitler - Again, I'm not a huge fan of River, but I did like the comedy in this episode. I also liked the Doctor when he was crying to River to help him.

Night Terrors - A decent horror episode. Pales in comparison to Blink though.

The Girl Who Waited - Again, I like see the Doctor as someone who lies, breaks down, acts like a human, so having him lie and effectively kill the other Amy was good.

The God Complex - Better than Night Terrors

Closing Time - Thought it was funny as hell

To me, this season has been about the Doctor pretty much just giving up on himself. Tennant's Doctor pretty much realized he was horrible for him companion. This Doctor seems to be realizing how much destruction has followed him, how other cultures see him, etc..seeing him broken/weary is enjoyable to me. I really like them writing him that way.

Make no mistake, I've enjoyed this season. On a pure episode-by-episode basis it's been hit-or-miss, but so is EVERY season of Doctor Who. All the episodes can't be gold. Even my favorite season (Eccleston's) had an episode or two that I didn't like.

This season (I don't count Christmas specials, they're their own thing) I haven't liked The Rebel Flesh and Night Terrors, and I'm only so-so on The Curse of the Black Spot.

To me, every other episode has been fun or interesting and that's all I'll every ask of a SciFi show.

[Edited on September 30, 2011 at 2:46 PM. Reason : Didn't like Rebel Flesh, but I did like The Almost People, so RF had a purpose]

We differ on some episodes, so I will do the same listing:

Christmas Carol - It was OK for me. I actually think I liked it.

The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon - Excellent episode. Very strong and creepy.

Curse of Black Spot - Did not like it, other than the idea of what a siren was.

Doctor's Wife - Very much liked it.

Rebel Flesh/Almost People - Complete rubbish. Overly drawn out and boring.

Good Man Goes to War - I mostly liked it, though something was missing for me.

Let's Kill Hitler - Great episode.

Night Terrors - Decent episode, but it was one of those with an odd creepy creature just for the sake of an odd creepy creature (i.e. the two sided face booth robots from the second episode last season).

The Girl Who Waited - It was alright, though I have a basic distaste for episodes that re-write time without consequence.

The God Complex - Loved it.

Closing Time - Loved it (other than the "ZOMG emotions! All cybermen must explode!").

I will agreed that the whole River thing has felt a bit rushed this season. However, when you do 13 episode seasons, can you blame them for trying to rush through it pretty quickly?

Kinda, I mean they started this whole River thing years ago.

I actually expected it to take another few years for them to get to this point, keeping the River appearances to one a season.

Of course, that's not practical since the actor would very visibly age in that time and might not always be available. Plus it seems like Moffit just really gets excited about the character.

River is Moffet's character (he created her during Davis' run), he probably just wants to see an ending to her arc under his terms

Moffit is already shortening next season to have more time for Sherlock (though of course Moffit himself denies thats why the season git rescheduled) so it doesn't seem out of the realm of possibilities he might leave after that (is he still doing Jekyll too?).
http://doctorwhotv.co.uk/less-doctor-who-blamed-on-sherlock-21787.htm

And I don't Want to make it sound like I hated this season. Timswar is right that not every episode can be a home run but every season I usually *love* 2 or 3 episodes. So far I can't say that about season six. There have been peaks for me

Yeah, I guess doing what are essentially three movies would be a bit time consuming.

I wonder who they'll hand the reigns to after him, and whether or not that head will get his own Doctor or if he'll have to keep Smith.

Well it was always going to be a cop-out, and you don't put a gun on the shelf without firing it by the final act.

I just wish pouring one out for The Brigadier had been given a chance to resonate a little more. I'm glad they did it, but it kinda came out of no where as a random face smack.

Yeah, I know. Other than a mention during the Sontaran episodes he hasn't gotten much play.

Still, I'd almost have preferred an "in memory of" at the beginning of the episode.

In all honesty she probably would have been a better fit for that moment, particularly since new-series-only viewers had actually been introduced to her.

^ agreed. Have you seen the Christmas special yet? (I don't think it counts as part of the season).

I didn't like it as much as last year's, but it was still pretty awesome.

My favorite line of last year's Doctor Who actually came out of that episode as well.

*woman pulls gun on Bill Bailey who plays a morally questionable logger in the episode*
Bailey:"There's nothing you can say, miss, that will make me think you will actually use that."
Woman: "I'm looking for my children."
*terror sweeps over Bailey's face.*

Torchwood is... ummm... well...

Hmmm... I have a problem with Torchwood. Gwen Cooper keeps living while the characters I like keep dying. Currently at a rate of one per season (If you count Jack's first season death).

They could have done something better with Harkness than what Torchwood has become.

The sad thing is that the end of Miracle Day actually leaves Torchwood with a dynamic and potential storyline I could find watchable, but it probably won't get a chance to explore that.
