I'm not really sure I (or most of the other people that have posted in this thread so far) understand the concept of a popular show that "needs to die". Most people seem to be just listing shows they don't care for. I've never seen more than a couple of minutes of American Idol. I absolutely HATE the fact that it seems like half the posts on my facebook feed are related to who people think should win or what kind of dress J-Lo was wearing. If I had my choice, I'd definitely shitcan that show in a heartbeat, but I don't see why that means it NEEDS to die, from an overall standpoint. Same deal (to a much lesser extent) with other shows I don't watch. Aside from shows that are almost universally regarded as bad (Shit my dad says, Outsourced, etc) I don't know why you'd ever say a show needs to die as long as people are still watching and enjoying it. It's not like canceling Glee means they would replace it with something that was any better. Hell, I completely agree that How I Met your Mother isn't half as good as it used to be, but even at half strength it's still better than almost any other half hour comedy on TV. Sure, if there was a guarantee that when HIMYM was canceled it would be replaced by the next Community or Parks and Rec, then I'd be all for it. But I'd much rather see them pick off the crappier shows first than shows that are established as being moderately entertaining to large groups of people (i.e. popular).]

Not trying to be a buzzkill, I just wonder what sort of justification people can have for saying "all reality shows" need to die. Or what 40-50 hours of programming they have in mind to replace them with if they did get the ax.]

heh, good point. Although there still are a lot of people that are suggesting shows that they simply dislike/have only seen once and didn't care for. I don't want to put words in BridgetSPK's mouth, but I don't think that's what she had in mind for this thread. As much as I enjoyed 24, it was most definitely time for that show to die because I think they had achieved most everything they could with that format. Whoever suggested The Mentalist is on the right track too because as much as I do enjoy that particular show, it's really not going anywhere except for the same place it goes every single other week. Of course I suppose the same thing can be said of every other crime-solving procedural on TV.]
