Saw it last night. Enjoyed it, thunk it a Goonies-meets-ET joint, though The Case was the better film.

ehh, it was ok, i will agree that the kids in the movie were the best part of it, i was glad i only paid 5 bucks for it though

saw it tonight. it's a good movie if you ignore the fact that JJ Abrams/Steven Spielberg were behind it. i really enjoyed the train scene and loved the way they worked the filmmaking aspect into it. but i think they could've definitely improved on the whole "alien" concept. The scene where the kid was conversing with the alien had me

the first half of the movie was pretty good. then the continuity issues and trite ending completely fucked all the good things. this movie blows goat sack

I enjoyed the movie.

^^^ yeah, it's great if you ignore the fact that 2 people with pretty good track records are behind it

I really liked this movie.Only problem ... when they were filming at the train station, they only got to take one shot because of the apocalyptic train wreck. Then how did "The Case" have two different angles shown in that scene? (one of the detective, one of his wife) The train station was destroyed so they couldn't have gone back and done it again.

only problem? how about the guy survives a head on train crash? or the one friend staying behind at the air force camp? or alice completely forgiving her dad for all the abuse?

As we walked to our car Friday night my husband commented "You know, this movie reminds me of Cloverfield". "Well hun, it was done by the same guy". "Well remind me not to see any of his movies again because they suck"I enjoyed it though. It had it's issues, I do feel the ending was kind of a let down, but the kids were awesome.

holy shit, I fucking LOVED this movie... the story was secondary. The TONS of subtle tributes to Spielberg were just awesome. All the camera angles, pans, etc. If you grew up in the early 80s watching the 15 or so movies that HBO had at the time get ready to watch a movie that fits into that time period. There were shot by shot exact replicas of scenes from so many of his movies. Raiders, ET, Goonies, Jurassic Park, Jaws, Close Encounters, etc. It was like a nostalgic blend of all the movies that I grew up watching when there werent a billion cable channels; much like Raiders was for Spielberg and the serials from his youth. It was a pretty good movie but the alien aspect was disappointing. The actual alien looked like every other "scary man-eating green guy"

^^yep, you've found the only truck/train collision. ever. good work detective!

because it's easier to spend 2hrs to see something new than 16 hours to watch things you've seen before

^I think I meant to suggest that it isn't "new."

^^^^ Raiders was just a rehash of Spielberg's memories of cheesy serials from his youth. Almost a tribute. Abrams has now done the same thing for his childhood, which was made up of... Spielberg movies. This is why I think several of the "goofs" were on purpose, it was supposed to be this conglomeration of childhood/teen memories from the late 70s to mid 80s., not a literal "historically based" movie. Like the movie was set in 1979 but some of the songs, gadgets, toys etc weren't available until a few years later. That didn't matter as it's just supposed to be a tribute to the movies of a multi-year time period. Now, what I do admit is that I think a TON of the movie is lost to people that are too old or young to have those feelings about that time period.[Edited on June 25, 2011 at 1:10 PM. Reason : F]

SPOILERthe climax where the kid told the alien not to eat him (and it listened) kind of ruined the movie for me. that was pretty fucking dumb.

just saw it, I really liked it.
