Even if we hang onto Avent I'd like to see some staff changes. The program needs some excitement injected into it. I thought Holliday's hiring would've given us the type of recruiting we needed, but nothing about the current staff makes me believe we're gonna suddenly turn all this around and get back to where we were hoping to be after the '08 Super Regionals.

everything I've read about Rodon is that he was a lock to come here a la Rob Crisp because of his family

i guess he deserves some props for convincing him to come here instead of signing with MLB but his long term track record of recruiting is pretty herb-esque - non-impact pros and whenever we do get a stud (brackman) it doesn't really pan out

rodon is just his james harden

Look, we had everything line up for us to win the ACCT for the first time since 1992. It was there for the taking against the 8 seed that we swept this year. We have an unhittable starting pitcher that is 9-0 on the year. We have 4 hitters (Turner, Diaz, Mathews, and Canela) who would start for anyone in the country. This team is underachieving. Avent needs to go.

Also I've heard through a very good source that Rodon is gone after this year. More reason to can Avent.

Away from NC State. He can go JUCO for a year and go pro after 2 instead of 3.

Also he and Avent do not like each other, that's fairly well known.

and while i'm sure you are more in tune with the baseball program's intricacies of who likes and doesnt like who, i'm not gonna panic too much yet when our season isn't even over

Hell today we were bunting every time we got runners on, giving them outs, even our good hitters.

Look its year 16 and he has 2 super regional appearances and no ACC titles.

At what other ACC school could you coach a major sport and not win the conference for 16 years?

I'll save judgment on Avent, but I have faith in Debbie to get results or make a change. Between the way she handled Tarantini and the recent article about lighting a fire under the wrestling team, I have no doubt it'll be right sooner rather than later.

Actually the coaches do have a lot to do with it. There is play calling and strategy involved in baseball. For example, if you have a guy on 3rd with 1 out in the bottom of the 5th down 1, with a batter at the plate who has 30 home runs on the season, then you have 2 choices. You can either call a squeeze bunt to try to get the guy on 3rd home, or you can let your best hitter swing away. Smart coaches will make the right call depending on how well the pitching is and who has the momentum.

Then there is also the starting line up and batting order.


I'm not saying the coaching was bad last night, but they can affect the outcome of a game.

if we got blown out 15-4 by vanderbilt you really cant get on avent's case about that other than not having good enough players

if we lose a close game because we wasted a ton of opportunity's/handled the pitching changes poorly...well

we've got 2 games now to make up for it. going to be tough, though. hard to beat any team essentially 3 times in a row
