I was surprised at how small this game is. It's only like 2.5 GB. I know size doesn't really matter (that's what she said) but I would have thought that a game 15 years in the making would have had more substance to it than that.
6/8/2011 7:59:21 PM
5.5 from IGNOuch
6/11/2011 10:49:12 PM
no, it was suppose to be expected. Honestly, I'm hoping for 5.0 meta rating
6/12/2011 1:25:11 AM
Been watching gameplay on Youtube..........will not be buying.
6/12/2011 5:37:58 PM
I never understood by people thought this was going to be good. Everybody expected Chinese Democracy to be the shit after 15 or so years too.

I have been watching gameplay in justin.tv, and it basically Duke Nukem from 1998 with 2011 graphics. Not a totally bad game, you should just keep in mind that its a follow-up to Duke Nukem and its just more of the same with a graphical upgrade.
6/12/2011 6:08:13 PM
I forgot everything that happened in duke nukem, kinda want to find my old cd and play it.

I see tons of quicktime events. QTE are the worst thing to happen to video games in the history of video games. They kill immersion as well as player creativity and player development. To use them in Duke? Shameful.Life re-gen is the second worst thing ever to happen to the FPS genre. It panders to the impatient, casual 12-year old gamer who has no clue what made last decade a far better decade in gaming. That it's being used in DNF is the second nail in the coffin (for me). They did try to add some flavor to it (ego vs. "life")......don't care. And the two-weapons-only system...it was a horrible experience in the demo, and appears to be the same in the full game. And grenades are different class of item (and therefore key/button)...another unfortunate development in FPS gaming this decade. This was a pain in the ass during the demo, so I assume it will be during the game.It appears vehicle use is only in third-person in the full game as well. You know, I'm okay with the "every sixth level is going to be a vehicle level because this is a modern FPS and teenagers think running over enemies is AWRSOME BRA!" mantra if it's done properly (see Half Life 2).Will await the $14.99 point in a few years...
6/12/2011 6:37:55 PM
replace years to months. pretty sure this will be in the bargain bin sooner than you think. This isn't a COD valued series.
6/12/2011 6:53:43 PM
They just should have used that manpower to make Borderlands 2 release faster, if its coming to this gen of consoles anywayssssss ........
6/12/2011 7:27:32 PM
The only FPS game I have seen so far (granted I hardly play games), that combined a first person shooting and vehicle system together to look and feel right, was Far Cry 2. Granted that game was pretty good, the things that were bad about it really kept it on the mediocre level. To me, those things was mainly the lack of immersion, even despite it basically being an open world sand box FPS. To me, with all the advances in gaming, the ONLY way to make a 3rd or 1st person game is for it to be open world sandbox. I hate totally linear games that feed you through a level with scripted events. As Wyloch said, it kills immersion and creativity/strategy. Anyways....
6/13/2011 12:48:58 AM
battlefield series, crysis series, halo series and red faction: guerrilla comes to mind first at the top of my head.

^fuck yes I hate "protect the bitch" missions.
6/13/2011 1:05:47 PM
Shenmue used QTEs pretty effectively...especially when you failed and the story continued with your fuck up
6/13/2011 1:18:17 PM
didnt this come out today?
6/14/2011 5:20:08 PM
A quick survey of reviews will show you this game is being almost universally shat on. Avoid unless you want a drunken evening of reminiscing about the golden age of gaming.
6/14/2011 5:22:15 PM
Gamefly...will play when wasted for a few hours then return
6/14/2011 5:23:35 PM
I'll grab it on eBay for about $7 in a few monthsjust like I did with Brutal Legend
6/14/2011 5:37:52 PM
i'll wait for the huge july 4th steam sale
6/14/2011 7:30:24 PM
redeemed!
6/15/2011 2:04:52 AM
Wow. They should have just given that guy the copy for free and made an event out of it to get free publicity... unless there are hundreds of people cashing in their pre-orders, in which case it's nothing special.Still they should have knocked off more than $10. The guy paid $10 down in 2001. That's probably $15 in today's money. Besides, from what I hear this game is bad/average enough to go below $39.99 in the next month or so.
6/15/2011 7:45:52 AM
i give it a week, but yeah, steam's July 4th sale is coming up pretty fast. I'd bet this would be there.

I'd like to know which games they grabbed those "maps" out of.And in 1993 you couldn't even look up and down.
6/15/2011 11:12:27 AM
don't complain bitches

Not trolling, I'm just going to have to disagree if you say FPS games were better in 1993 than they are now.
6/15/2011 11:43:26 AM
I too would not agree with that statement. I never made that statement.I think the sweet spot really was 1997 - 2002. Technology was sufficient for ambitious game designs to be achievable. Since then it's been all downhill.
6/15/2011 11:45:50 AM
The Quake 3 Arena/Unreal Tournament/Half Life era was my personal favorite.
6/15/2011 11:48:23 AM
^ Bingo. Not to mention Deus Ex, System Shock 2, FF7
6/15/2011 11:49:13 AM
I would include hl2 as part of the sweet spot since physics really became a big part of the map designs, although downhill after that. We could just write that off as a fluke for 04... and then add portal to the mix. And if you don't include open world fps like oblivion or fallout 3 minus their buggy as hell craptastic engine.
6/15/2011 11:53:42 AM
I think the best 2 years of gaming was 1997-98, in fact I even made a thread about it once I think. But I don't think it's gone downhill from 2002 at all.BTW do yourself a favor and play the Deus Ex: HR preview build. It's incredible.[Edited on June 15, 2011 at 12:04 PM. Reason : ]
6/15/2011 12:03:50 PM
It hasn't gone downhill, its just stagnated into making sequel after sequel
6/15/2011 12:20:32 PM
Do people still play unreal tournament? That's the best mutiplayer fps I've played save maybe bf1942 / dcI'm astraladvent and I approved this message

I loved UT but had dial up at the time so I couldn't play online. So I just played Godlike bots. I got pretty good at beating them.Instagib on the 3 towers map was teh awesome.

Just FYI from a person who has it and playing it right now...IT FUCKING SUCKS. Will be either trading it in or trading it on Goozex with in the next few days.
6/15/2011 4:18:02 PM
^^ doesn't matter, map design is map design and yes, they've always be about the story and not too much of the game play, but MGS2 was kickin.
6/15/2011 5:10:14 PM
